Upcoming Events

January 1st – New Year’s Day - West Windsor TaeKwonDo & Kickboxing Academy will be CLOSED.

January 2nd - West Windsor TaeKwonDo & Kickboxing Academy will be CLOSED in observance of New Year’s Day.

January 6th – Epiphany or Three Kings' Day, is a Christian feast day that celebrates the revelation of God in his Son as human in Jesus Christ. In Western Christianity, the feast commemorates principally (but not solely) the visit of the Magi to the Christ child, and thus Jesus' physical manifestation to the Gentiles. Moreover, the feast of the Epiphany, in some Western Christian denominations, also initiates the liturgical season of Epiphanytide. Eastern Christians, on the other hand, commemorate the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River, seen as his manifestation to the world as the Son of God.

January 12th – Township Classes begin – through March 2nd.

January 14th - Makar Sankranti marks the transition of the sun into the zodiacal sign of Makara (Capricorn) on its celestial path, which is the first change in the zodiac after the winter solstice and is the first day of the month of Magha. The festival is celebrated in various parts of the Indian subcontinent to observe the day which marks the shift of the sun into ever-lengthening days. Makara Sankranthi is a solar event making it one of the few Hindu festivals which fall on the same date in local calendars every year: 14 January, with some exceptions when the festival is celebrated on 15 January.

January 16th – Martin Luther King Day. January 21st – Martial Arts Madness at the West

Windsor TaeKwonDo & Kickboxing Academy. January 28th – Chinese New Year - the Year of the Fire

Rooster. The rooster being the sign of dawn and awakening, triumph and success can only be achieved at the price of hard work and patience in 2017. Chinese Zodiac 2017 energies are subject to the Fire element in its Yin form. Yin Fire expresses inner warmth and insight, as well as the quietness of privacy and family ties. Forgotten thoughts arise out of nowhere, amid a disconcerting atmosphere, both stiff and motley.

February 2nd – Ground Hog’s Day February 17th & 18th – Battle of Champions at the West

Windsor TaeKwonDo & Kickboxing Academy. West Windsor TaeKwonDo & Kickboxing Academy will be CLOSED.

Funnies A kindergarten kid told his teacher he’d found a cat, but it was dead. “How do you know the cat was dead?” she asked him. “Because I pissed in its ear & it didn’t move,” answered the child innocently. “You did WHAT?!!” the teacher exclaimed in surprise. “You know,” explained the boy, “I leaned over and went “Psst!’ and it didn’t move.”

Orion

Orion, often referred to as "The Hunter," is a prominent constellation – one of the largest and most recognizable in the night sky. Its name refers to Orion, a hunter in Greek mythology. It is best visible in the Northern Hemisphere at 9pm during the month of January.

You can recognize it is by the three stars in a line - Orion's Belt. Can you see the dagger hanging from the belt? The most brilliant stars in the Orion constellation are Betegeuse – a variable red giant – at the left shoulder of the Hunter, and Rigel – a blue-white giant – at the right foot.

According to legend, Orion is standing next to the river Eridanus with his two hunting dogs Canis Major and Canis Minor, fighting Taurus the bull. Other prey of his, such as Lepus the hare, can be found nearby.

Also in the January night sky, the full moon, known as the Wolf Moon appears on January 12th. It always shines in or near the stars of Gemini. It rises around sunset and sets around sunrise. This is the only night in the month when the moon is in the sky all night long. Also that evening, Jan 12th, Venus will reach its widest separation east of the Sun.
