LLOOOOKK UUPP!!
With Easter and the beauty of the lilies just past, now we have the jacaranda trees in full bloom reminding me of lilacs in Wisconsin (how I miss them!). Poppies and other annuals in bright and colorful profusion line the medians of the streets with eye-popping gorgeousness. Beauty is found in the desert as well as in the fertile mid-west, perhaps a different kind of beauty, but God’s hand is evident in all.
Some days, we only see the dried-up blossoms of our lives. Yes, life can be difficult. Other days, we see God’s glory in all its riotous color, a rainbow of hope and glory. Shouldn’t every day be filled with the prism of God’s creation and His love for us? Why isn’t it? “Me-thinks” it is our own fault. God’s love and glory is ever blossoming, always a profusion of color and hues. It never changes. It is we who change – in our perception, our tunnel-vision, and our shortcomings as human beings. Life takes over and the blinders we wear at times prevent us
from perceiving the beauty, envisioning God’s colorful love for us. We say, “I can do this by myself, I’m fine.” No, we are not fine without God’s love and never-changing forgiveness.
We need that forgiveness and the knowledge and strength of His love every second, every minute, every hour. How can we not see the gorgeous jacaranda or the lilies or
the poppies, or not smell the sharp, yet sweet scent of a rosemary plant? And how can we live our lives with blinders on, not reveling in the brilliance of God’s love and forgiveness?
Time to take the blinders off, look around us, and, most importantly, look up. Look up into the kaleidoscope of God’s love shining down in blooming color of salvation and forgiveness – every single day, no matter what life throws at us. Look up – and be thankful for rainbows and prisms sent from our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. - Bonnie J. Brockway
“Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the lasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every
kind on earth.” Genesis 9:16

The Sunday morning adult Bible class will study Epistles in May. On May 4, Tom Kusserow will lead the class in a quick look at Paul’s letter to Philemon. May 11 and 18, Pastor Kosberg will lead a 2-week study of Paul’s letter to the Philippians. Join us for these last three sessions of this activity year. We meet in the Sanctuary from 9:15 to 10:10. Beginning on Memorial Day weekend the Sunday morning Bible class will take its summer break.
The Truth Project is a new 6-week Bible study (May 4-June 8) will meet in the GLC Café on Sundays from 10:40-noon. For more info contact Mike Mosiman (480-456-4664 or [email protected]).

Have you been considering ordering a brick for the Buy a Brick Program?? Now would be a great time! The first phase is completed – check out the Courtyard to see how great it looks. The next order will be placed on Friday, May 2. Get an order form at the church office. Honor a loved one, advertise your business, or mark your years as a church member, remember a graduate, or share a favorite Bible verse.

Our Anniversary Celebration will be on Sept. 20! We are looking for stories, pictures, timelines, anything you can think of or dig up from the past 40 years at Gethsemane Church and School. Perhaps you could put in writing how you and your family came to become part of the Gethsemane family. Please send your stories and pictures to Lyn in the church office ([email protected]) or drop them off in person! We know a lot of wonderful things have happened here, please share your memories.

We will continue to meet on Tuesday mornings from 9:30-10:45 throughout May and into the summer unless most of us will be gone (keep an eye out for updates). We are studying the parables of Jesus, so each week is a different one or two. Call either the church office or Bonnie (480-821-9574) to verify if and where we are meeting. The present location is the small conference room by the office.

Because the need is great in the summertime, there will be a Blood Drive at Gethsemane on Sunday, June 22. If you were a blood donor on March 2, the timing should be right so that you are eligible on June 22 (and will also be eligible for our next Blood Drive on October 19). Watch for more information in next month’s newsletter! If you are one of those willing folks with a question regarding specific medical conflicts, you can use this time to contact your doctor and find out if this is something you can do.
FFRREEEE MMOONNEEYY????
If you didn’t know – there’s a way to donate money to GLS that’s free, to you. Just pick up a Community Partners card (from the church or school office) for Albertson’s and have them scan the card when you shop. A percentage each time will go back to our school!

SAM will meet May 1 for lunch and Bible Study, and on May 15 we will have our spring potluck. Both of these are in the Fellowship Hall at church. Then SAM will be recessing in June, July, and August. During those months, anyone who wants to can meet for breakfast at Cracker’s on Elliott at 9am on June 5, July 10, and August 7. We will resume our fall schedule on Sept. 4.

Our group had the privilege of taking a tour of the Choice Pregnancy Center in Tempe (note the new name!) this past month. What a blessing it was to see their new facilities and to hear how each room is used. We came away with a greater vision of what our baby quilts mean to the parents who receive them, and how lives are changed through the counseling the clients receive. God is working! We will continue to meet the 1st and 3rd Saturdays (May 3 and 17) in the Fellowship Hall from 9-noon. Come and join us!
