Double page spread NME 2

The double pages spread is mainly picture led, this is mainly to over emphasise what the music

artist is trying to get across to the audience. The picture is a medium close up of singer Nicky

Wire, the picture is very bright and bold, fitting in well with the chosen article. Nicky is holding his

hand out with the words ‘long live rock and roll?’ this is a really good thing to do, as it really

stands out to the audience. The fact that there is a question mark after the chosen statement, is

maybe questioning what he is saying, and also questioning what is happening to the world of rock

and roll. We are really drawn into his eyes as they are blacked out around the edges, this also

blends into his t-shirt as he is wearing a black blazer, making his top stand out so they are kind of

symbolic of each other. The double page spread is very neatly laid out; this is a good guidance

for the audience, as it’s easier to keep in context as to what they are reading. On the first page of

the double page spread there is a very large main headline, with three small columns or

information underneath, this could be that NME wants to keep most of the focus on the picture.

The headline of the DPS is very bold, and also a quote from Nicky Wire himself. ‘I’m almost

embarrassed at my age to be as angry as I am’ the way in which the headline is very bold and

contains a lot of the audiences focus, really shouts out his point, considering the attached image

does not portray him as an aggressive or vulnerable character, the main headline does. Its

coloured in black to make sure it stands out past the background and the articles underneath.

The journalist started this article by jumping in straight away to violate Nicky this maybe to attract

the audience’s attention, and make them want to keep reading about the suspected alcoholic

singer. There are not many direct quotes in the article maybe suggesting he was either too angry

to speak about his issue, or he did not want to say something he would regret. From the article,

we learn that Nicky is very angry of what has become of rock and roll, and people are questioning

his reason to this. Its making look out of character and people could blame this on many things. I

think the band would not be happy with the DPS maybe they’re next album fans will judge

whether it’s to the best it can be because of Nicky’s question of the rock and roll society, giving

them bad publicity and causing future problems.
