TRANSCRIPT
"Blessed are the pure of heart, for they
shall see God."
An individual reads the Bible, completely
opening his or her heart to the message.
Children play together at a park with no
bias or prejudice of one another.
A person completes a good act without
expecting a reward in return.
"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they
shall be called children of God."
Leaders of countries work towards and
bring about peace.
Two old friends decide to let go of a grudge.
Family members who have not spoken in 35
years reunite with each other.
"Blessed are they who are persecuted for
the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the
kingdom of heaven."
Someone is mocked for standing up for an
individual that others do not like.
Christians continue to hold strong in their
beliefs, even though they are persecuted.
A person states that he or she is a Christian,
even though the individual knows that there
will be consequences.
Leanne Nettleton—Principal
The preparation for the Sacraments of
Initiation are a parish based and family
centred process, here at St Bernadette’s
Parish. The parents are encouraged in the
preparation of their children by attending
the parent only sessions and through Group
Learning. At the group
sessions, parents share their
faith experiences with their
children. This is an excellent
way for the children to see
God’s love alive and working
through each one of us.
We congratulate the children in our Parish
who are celebrating the completion of their
sacramental preparation for the Eucharist
and receiving their First Eucharist at parish
masses over the next two weeks.
No. 19 Friday 22 June 2018
Dear Parents,
“Jesus explained with great simplicity what it
means to be
holy when he gave us the Beatitudes ...
The Beatitudes are like a Christian identity
card”
Pope Francis’ Apostolic Exhortation ‘Gaudete
Et Exultate’ Rejoice and Be Glad
There are a number of ways in which we can
bring the beatitudes into our daily life. Here
are just a few:
"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is
the kingdom of heaven."
Someone prays every day, but always offers
prayers for others and not him or herself.
A person gives up all of his or her free time in
order to volunteer.
A family works to ensure that God is part of
their daily lives.
"Blessed are they who mourn, for they
shall be comforted."
A person loses a very close family member.
God provides for that person by allowing
them to reunite in the hereafter.
A family is torn apart and a child vanishes.
The parents never find the child in this life,
but the family is reunited in the next world.
"Blessed are the meek, for they shall
inherit the earth."
One individual feeds a homeless individual.
Groups of people anonymously leave
clothing for a clothes drive.
A person humbles him or herself before God
in prayer.
"Blessed are they who hunger and thirst
for righteousness, for they shall be
satisfied."
Volunteers peacefully protest against an
unjust law.
A student stands up for an individual who is
being bullied, teased, and thereby
tormented.
"Blessed are the merciful, for they shall
receive mercy."
Anytime someone truly forgives another,
mercy is shown.
A child forgives someone who hurt him or
her at school.

Mid Year Reports Reports for the first semester of the year will be
distributed towards the end of this term. Students in
Kindergarten will receive a report where the level of
achievement is reported on using a scale of Working
Towards, Working At and Working Beyond. Years 1 to 6
have an A to E reporting system.
A describes students who have an extensive
knowledge and understanding of the content. They
have a very high level of competence and can apply
the skills and knowledge to new situations.
B describes students who have a thorough knowledge
and understanding of the content. They have a high
level of competence and are able to apply the skills
and knowledge in most situations.
C describes students who have achieved a sound
understanding of the content and skills and have an
adequate level of competence in these areas.
D describes students who have achieved a basic
understanding and knowledge of the content and
skills and have a limited level of competence.
E describes students who have achieved an elementary
knowledge and understanding of the content with
teacher.
To put the A-E reporting system into perspective, it may be
helpful to look at the analogy below for driving a car. Where
do you fit on the scale?

For students in Year 6 and older in our parish, they will
soon be preparing to receive the
Sacrament of Confirmation. Parish families
who are interested in their child
commencing preparation for the sacrament
of confirmation are asked to attend one of
the information evenings held on Monday
25th or Tuesday 26th June, in the Church at 7:30pm.
For our school and parish, it is a joy to support these
children through prayer, resources and celebrating the
liturgies.
Mrs Shane Robinson—REC
Peer Support – Stronger Together In Week 9, our Peer Support lesson will focus on how
working together as a team developing common values
and beliefs can ensure our school in an inclusive
environment where everyone belongs and feels safe.
When everyone is focused on building positive
relationships that respect diversity and individual need,
all students are able to make the right choice to ensure
our school is a place free from teasing and bullying.
Students will work together with their peers to
strengthen their relationships and build a positive
school culture based on our values of respect, honesty,
tolerance, forgiveness, care and compassion. It is by
building strong relationships that we will help support
students to become confident in using their skills to
bounce back from challenging situations and to discuss
how to solve these situations with teachers and parents.
We encourage all parents to talk with their child over
the weekend about how they can build positive
relationships and help others who may be facing
challenging relationships. This will assist all students
when they are discussing their ideas during Peer
Support on Monday.

Inquiry A-thon WOW! What a fantastic day we had on Wednesday!
Throughout St Bernadette’s, we were amazed by all of
the wonderful, creative and insightful questions students
researched and investigated throughout the day.
Students investigated significant people within our
history, how the stars and moon were formed, ways in
which we can colonise another planet, how the World
Cup operates and how we can build a waste free
school! The students were so excited to share their
questions and findings from their investigations. We
look forward to continuing to foster and encourage
students to critically think, investigate and find solutions
to their questions.
Now with the A-thon day over, the time has come to start
collecting the money pledged from all of the generous
sponsors. To be in the running for some great prizes,
please ensure that all of the Inquiry A-thon sponsorship
money is returned to school by Wednesday 3rd July.

This webinar equips parents with a fresh way of
proactively developing the habits that will strengthen
their family, combining cutting-edge insights from the
positive psychology arena with classic psychological
research underpinning relationships, parenting and
personal choices. ‘21 Days to a Happier Family’ gives
parents scientifically validated suggestions for making
their family happier than ever, starting today!
Everyone wants their family to be happy, but so many
things get in the way. The usual suspects include work
stress, commitments and our children’s challenging
behaviour. Some of the less obvious obstacles include
our habits and expectations, a reactive (rather than
proactive) approach, and even a lack of clarity around
what a happy family is and does. As a result, families
often feel (or are) fragmented, stressful and out of
control.
