Whalewatch Trip - Next Friday 3rd AugustWhalewatch Kaikoura have provided us with a new date for our Whalewatch Trip - Next Friday the 3rd of August.

Parents that were taking transport and attending the trip please confirm if you are still able to provide transport on this date if you have not already replied. If you would like to put your name down as a backup for transport please contact me.

New transport forms will be coming home next week as we may need to re-arrange the cars.

Mid Year Concert The children are busy at the moment writing letters of invite to grandparents, relatives and friends. They will be bringing them home for you to post this week. We know that due to distance etc grandparents in particular can not always attend but I get alot of very positive feedback that by receiving a letter they feel involved and part of Waiau School and their families activities.

Your friends and family are welcome to attend either the Tuesday or Wednesday performances so that everyone can enjoy all the children’s and teachers effort. The more the merrier.

Padder Tennis - Year 4-6Congratulations to Todd, Tom Ewan and Rachel who have reached the semi-finals. Hopefully if the weather stays fine the semi-finals will be tomorrow and Thursday.

Playground/Bus ShedYou will have noticed the old junior playground and bus shed are gone and the trees are currently being removed. All exciting progress towards our new pool. We are looking at ideas for our new adventure playground so if you see something exciting on your travels please take a photo and send it to me. The children have lots of ideas.

Teachers' Potential Strike Action The teachers' union, NZEI, has signaled that teachers will strike for a half-day on Wednesday 15th August – there is the possibility that this could increase to a one day strike after a national vote over the next two weeks. The key issues NZEI are campaigning for are more teachers to keep class sizes down, more resources/staff to support children with additional learning and behavioural needs and pay increase to address the teacher shortage. Negotiations are continuing and teachers are hopeful that the action could yet be averted. However I wish to advise parents of the date of the half day when classes will potentially not be held and will keep you posted as the negotiations continue.

This is the same day as our 7pm school concert - which would go ahead regardless.

PBL (Positive Behaviour For Learning)This Term the themes will be directly related to our school values. We are defining what being Responsible, Respectful and Resilient looks like in the playground, classroom, cloakroom and on the bus. It would be wonderful if you could use these terms at home and tell us on occasion when your children display these values to you.

Kind regards,Mary KimberPrincipal
