On the network uplink side, the GE4404M is fully compatible with a standard Gigabit Ethernet transport back-haul via an appropriate SFP transceiver. The Node PON OLT provides 2 dual-mode universal ports operating at 1 Gbps or 10 Gbps and 2 ports operating at 1 Gbps. Transmission at 1310 nm, 1550 nm, CWDM, or DWDM wavelengths provide flexible options. Built in AurOS (Aurora Operating Software) in the GE4404M Node PON OLT ensures drop-in interoperability with existing DOCSIS OSS back-office systems. The built-in DPoE (DOCSIS Provisioning of EPON) functionality enables provisioning of connected ONU/ONTs via the same DOCSIS OSS infrastructure that is vastly utilized for provisioning CMTS and cable modems in a typical Cable Operator network. With AurOS, the connected ONU/ONT appears and functions as a standard cable modem, or Virtual Cable Modem (VCM).

Node PON™ OLT with DPoE™ and 10/1GE Uplink

The GE4404M EPON Node OLT module is installed into an Aurora Networks’ NC4000 series Node or VHub platform, enabling 1G-EPON or Turbo-EPON connectivity from a standard cable TV HFC or RFoG node to subscriber CPE at distances well beyond the typical PON serving area, using standard 10GE or 1GE uplinks. Product Specifications GE4404M

The AurOS DPoE NodePON OLT System Software Solution:• Based on the CableLabs DPoE v1.0 standard specifications.

• Enables seamless integration of Aurora’s EPON Node OLT and ONU/ONTs in an existing DOCSIS back-office infrastructure. An EPON ONT appears and provisions just like a DOCSIS Cable Modem.

• Works with an existing DOCSIS infrastructure, including: DHCP, TFTP, NTP, syslog servers and SNMP manager.

• Supports SSD (Secure Software Download) and digital certificates for highly secured configuration and software upgrade operation.

• Supports symmetric 1G-EPON and Turbo-EPON (2/1 Gbps asymmetric) to the subscriber.

• Supports IPv6 based management.

• Supports DOCSIS 3.0 L2 VPN, and MEF Traffic models.

• Supports advanced QoS mechanisms for efficient transport of diverse triple-play service offerings including DPoE-SP-MULPIv1.0.

Aurora Networks’

AurOS DPoE

Node PON OLT System

Seamless DOCSIS OSS IntegrationThe AurOS software resides on the GE4404M Node PON OLT. Auros includes a DML mediation function that among other things translates between DOCSIS management commands and corresponding EPON transport primitives. The AurOS software maintains virtual CMTS and virtual Cable Modem (vCM) engines for the EPON OLT and ONU respectively, thus providing the same look-and-feel to traditional DOCSIS-based back-office systems. The initial processes performed by AurOS consist of three main DOCSIS server interactions:

• DHCP server: For obtaining the initial configuration including the IP address for ONU. Standard DHCP options are supported in the system (example as the most typical being Option 82 – Relay Agent).

• TFTP server: For downloading the DOCSIS Cable Modem con-figuration file and software image for ONU upgrade. AurOS soft-ware will parse the downloaded file (with various TLVs) and apply it to the PON ONUs. The communication between Node OLT and ONU is via standard DPoE (802.3ah extension) OAM messages.

• ToD server: For synchronizing the PON system with the Time of Day information.

All the DOCSIS-related intelligence solely resides in AurOS, and the EPON ONUs are completely unaware of the north-bound DOCSIS proxies between AurOS and the DOCSIS servers. For the DOCSIS back-office servers the, EPON ONUs appear as standard DOCSIS cable modems. The messaging between GE4404M Node PON OLT and connected ONUs (ONT-E1100i) is DPoE OAM, as defined in the DPoE-SP-OAM-v1.0 specification.
