North Warwickshire versus Cumbria
The first ladies county section matches took place on Sunday 19 May. North Warwickshire Ladies played their
home game on Bedworth No.1 green, with the away match being held at Levens, Bell Hill. North Warwickshire
enjoyed at 43 shot victory in their first game of their campaign with some excellent bowling from the team—a
great start! A special mention to Molly Tonks who played her debut game at number one away and put in a
sterling performance—well done Molly! Our thanks to all of our supporters home and away.

What’s going on at the Waterloo? —What we know so far
On a brighter note—closer to home—New Green at Keresley RFC
Qualifiers for the Ladies
Autumn Waterloo are now
currently taking place and some
of the missed competitions are
being rearranged.
No further official statements
have been made.
On Monday, 8 April Mark Mark
Audin, the current manager of
the waterloo green, posted on
the official Waterloo page that
they had met with the owner of
The Waterloo, his buildings
manager and a structural
engineer. At that meeting it
was decided to cancel all
competition bowling on the
green until the end of May. A
structural report has been
received detailing all the repairs
that are required before the
end of May.
On Thursday 2 May Mark
posted on the Waterloo
facebook page that monies
needed to be raised to carry
out repairs on the existing
stadia in order to carry on with
competitions at the Waterloo.
The repairs need to take place
before July or the famous
Waterloo will be shut down.
Talks have taken place around
gaining a lease for the bowling
green and surroundings, which
appeared to be positive.
September 2018 Coventry
Colliery had the news that their
current land owners intended
to sell up for development and
the two greens would be lost.
It was then a race against time
to find an alternative site and
prepare for the 2019 season.
Keresley RFC were approached
on 17 October and a quick
decision made that the spare
land behind the clubhouse
could be used. From that date
onwards small group of people
spent a huge amount of time
creating their new home.
There is still work to be done,
especially, on the green itself,
but that will be at the end of
the season in order to get
ready for the following year. At
this moment in time it is what it
is – an undulating green with a
few tricks that the home team
are trying to learn. Steve Tate
is confident that the green will
be fine and playable for this
season and can only get better.
All this was achieved with a
minimal amount of money,
some generous help with mate-
rials, and a lot of hard work by
a handful of dedicated and keen
bowlers. Isn’t is amazing what
this group have achieved!
Good luck to all for this and
future seasons!

As you can see pregnancy has
not stopped Liz continuing to
bowl for club and county,
which has been massively
appreciated! We would like
to send Liz and her partner all
our very best wishes for their
imminent arrival.
Dunlop Ladies Open
We were once again blessed
with a perfect day for the
Dunlop Open. The sun shone
for most of the day and the
bowling reflected the high
quality field from across the
bowling regions Competitors
travelled from as far away as
Yorkshire, South Yorkshire,
Derbyshire and Staffordshire.
The only regret is that we do
not have more local entries for
this Champion of Champions
Qualifier. My grateful thanks to
everyone who sponsored the
competition and to all of the
Dunlop members who worked
tirelessly on day to make it a
great success.

It was great to see the photo of the victorious 2002 “Waterloo Cup” team in the
first edition of the Newsletter and I thought I’d share my memories of that brilliant
day with you.
It was a very warm day and the support from our families and bowling friends was
amazing. I can name all of the players in the photo and it’s sad that three are no
longer with us: Ann Mitchell, Vi Strong and Sheila Sketchley. We all miss those lovely
ladies but have good memories of the time we spent with them during matches and
away from the green too.
I kept a programme/score sheet of the day we played North Shropshire County La-
dies and it’s interesting to see that “every shot” really did matter on that day (as it
always does in any game!) We won by only three shots, the final score being 401 to
North Shropshire County and 404 to North Warwickshire County. I have a very
clear memory of the North Shropshire County players and supporters popping the
Champagne corks when their number 12 was beating Aly Evans, obviously thinking
their player would “run out”. Little did they know what a force to be reckoned with
Aly Evans is as she managed to get three more vital shots which won us the game!
As you can imagine we partied well into the evening and Abba’s “Waterloo” seemed
the most appropriate song to be sung whilst we were in the Waterloo pub and also
on the coach home.
I’d like to thank Aly for letting me share my memories and would like to take this
opportunity to thank her for the work she does and the service she continues to give
to local bowls and to the County generally.
Yours in bowling
