WEEKLY NEWSLETTER No. 25 Wednesday, 27th August, 2014 Northgateway, Langwarrin 3910 Tel: 03 9775 7533 Fax: 03 9775 9264 Email: [email protected] Website: www.langwarrinparkps.vic.edu.au CONGRATULATIONS - Year 6 Children: who had a major success with their production of “Beauty and the Beast” Ski Camp Kids: who last week all learned to ski at Mount Buller. RESILIENCE AND YOUR CHILD - During the course of the average week at school a child will be challenged at least once by something that may not go his or her way. A teacher may caution, a friend may ignore or a student who is a total stranger may say or do something that is upsetting. Serious breaches in these areas will, of course, be dealt with by the school. However, it is important that as parents and teachers, we equip our children with the strategies to personally deal with something that is upsetting. We are not always going to be around when something or someone challenges the emotions of our children. We need to teach them how to deal with this on their own; to teach them how to ‘bounce back’; to be resilient. We are all challenged at times by people or situations that make our lives potentially difficult. However, it is our response to these challenges that is crucial in ultimately determining our success and happiness in life. SKI CAMP - Last week 27 Year 5 & 6 students joined 11 Pearcedale PS children for a 3 day ski camp at Mount Buller. After a 4am departure from LPPS we hit the slopes ready for action at 9am. The first morning was challenging as we all got used to the idea of guiding a set of skis down a slippery slope. Under sun and blues skies, by the end of the first day we were starting to get the hang of it. This could be fun! On the second day we not only improved but had all skied a blue or intermediate run by lunchtime! We were exhausted at night but we had the luxury of coming back to our lodge located in the snow right on the mountain. The food was great, the couches comfy and the fire was warm. After a good night’s rest it was up to the slopes again. From a self-esteem point of view each of the children grew enormously as each experienced the thrill and immense satisfaction that comes with mastering a new skill. To say that the children enjoyed it would be a massive understatement. We also had the bonus this year of interaction with students from another school. With many of these children heading off to secondary school next year, this was a confidence boosting experience. “BEAUTY AND THE BEAST” – THE YEAR 6 MUSICAL PRODUCTION Today is musical production day at LPPS. By all accounts our Year 6 students are delighting the audiences with sensational performances. We will have a full report for you in next week’s newsletter. OPEN NIGHT – Wednesday, September 10 We are all getting very excited about Open Night in 2 weeks. We will be running a Maths theme and the best thing of all is that you are all invited! Each class is putting on a maths activity in the classrooms and we are expecting big crowds of parents and relatives to attend. We love showing off our talents in the classroom and would love to show you how good we are at maths. We are looking forward to seeing our whole community on Wednesday, September 10. UPDATE OF STUDENT DETAILS

Please, please, please if you have moved, changed/deleted home or mobile phone numbers

or changed emergency contact details we desperately need to know. So many times when a child is sick or injured the front office has trouble making contact with either parents or emergency contacts which can be extremely stressful for your child as they think that no-one is available to come

and collect them.
