The new - generation line-up now includes the Mazda CX-5, Mazda6, Mazda3, Mazda2, Mazda CX-3 and Mazda MX-5. Production of these vehicles are in Hiroshima and Hofu in Japan, Thailand, China and Mexico, as well as being assembled in Russia, Vietnam and Malaysia.

“The entire Mazda Group is united by a single - minded desire to deliver our customers driving pleasure. That’s why we take on so many challenges,” said Mazda’s President and CEO, Masamichi Kogai. “Those efforts have paid off, and we have been able to exceed the three million - unit mark because our new-generation models have proven so popular with customers all over the world. We are grateful to each and every customer who chose one of our cars. Moving forward, Mazda continues to work hard to brighten people’s lives through car ownership and aim to become a “one-and-only” brand that builds a special emotional bond with customers.”

MAZDA has now produced three million new-generation models. Last month Mazda Motor Corporation hit a fantastic

milestone of globally producing three million new-generation vehicles featuring SKYACTIV Technology and KODO: Soul of Motion design. The milestone was reached approximately four years after production started on the first new-generation model - The CX-5 at the Hiroshima Plant in November 2011.

A main aim of next - generation models is to deliver driving pleasure, outstanding environmental and safety performance to all customers. In order to achieve this, every new-generation model is equipped with SKYACTIV Technology. This means each model has completely redesigned engines, transmissions, vehicle bodies and chassis which dramatically enhance the fundamental performance of the vehicle.

Another key aspect of these models is that each design is under the KODO: Soul of Motion design theme, which expresses the strength and beauty animals in motion. The result of this is Mazda has now enhanced its brand presence by creating a group of vehicles marked by a strong and consistent design message.

Mazda’s new generation models have also enjoyed critical acclaim, racking up over 200 awards worldwide. Their most prestigious achievements include CX-5, Mazda2 and MX-5 all

winning Japan Car of the Year. Whilst in the UK, the new-generation models have won a raft of awards from leading magazines and motoring groups.

So what does the future hold for the new - generation models? Mazda currently have no confirmed for release for the UK. But last year we did see the CX-9 design confirmed for release in North America in Spring 2016. We also saw the RX-Vision Concept previewed at the Tokyo Motor Show, although there is no confirmed release date, it would be great to see this vehicle in the UK.

Ever since the Mazda MX-5 was released last year, the vehicle has been gathering some fantastic reviews and acquiring a magnitude of different awards from across the world. We are going to guide you through some of the vehicles biggest achievements.

THEMAZDA MX-5 TROPHY CABINET

With nine model across five trim levels, the all - new Mazda MX-5 has reaffirmed Mazda’s dominance of the affordable sports car sector, and it has been backed up by an impressive trophy cabinet of awards. Mazda has been able to retain the agility, fun and engagement that has always defined the MX-5, while at the same time taking the vehicle into the modern age.

What Car? AwardsThe Mazda MX-5 has started 2016 off in fine fashion by taking the prestigious Best Convertible title at the 2016 What Car? Awards. It also won a second prize of being named best Convertible buy for under £25,000 at the annual awards ceremony.

The What Car? Test Team commentated: “In terms of fun per pound, this little roadster has the market cornered. Sure, there are faster hot hatches with more power, but they don’t deliver the fresh-air frolics and sweetly balanced rear-wheel-drive handling of the Mazda. Everything about it feels ideally suited to the UK, from grip levels to the high-revving engine and diminutive proportions.”

The Sunday Times - Top 100 Cars of 2016The all - new Mazda MX-5 has been named the winner of the Roadsters and Spiders category in ‘The Sunday Times Top 100 Cars’. This award was judged by the motoring supplement team from the Sunday Times and is part of an annual feature.

The Sunday Times said: “in a market obsessed by huge power outputs, the MX-5 makes a refreshing change. It produces just 129bhp from its entry-level 1.5-litre engine, but Mazda’s engineers have obsessively pared weight back to a lean 1,050kg. On the road the MX-5 changes direction like a featherweight boxer, revs freely and allows you to use all the power without troubling the traction control.”

Auto ExpressThe all - new Mazda MX-5 was named Roadster of the Year back in 2015, by Britain’s biggest selling weekly car magazine Auto Express.

James Disdale, Road Test Editor of Auto Express stated “the new MX-5 represents a high watermark for Mazda. By combining thrilling driving dynamics with head-turning style and

surprising efficiency, the great value MX-5 once again sets the standard in the roadster class.”Japan Car of the YearThe MX-5 was named Japan Car of the Year for 2015/16. The jury in Japan’s most prestigious automotive award praised the passion and workmanship that went in the new MX-5, as well as Mazda’s commitment to the lightweight fun-to-drive sports car.

It is the second time the iconic two-seat claimed the Japanese prize, after the previous generation did so in 2005/06. Masamichi Kogai, President and CEO of Mazda said; “This result is thanks to everyone’s enthusiastic support, and we are both grateful and proud that our latest MX-5 has received such a prestigious award.”

Responsive and fun to drive whether in the city or on the motorway, this sporty supermini offers the perfect combination of fuel economy and performance, as well as high levels of technology and advanced in-car connectivity.

Part of the Mazda2 launch in 2015 was to create a series of videos, called ‘Unconventional Training School’. The campaign was centralised around the Mazda2’s distinctive features, which were developed through the industry-leading SKYACTIV technology. The series of videos showcase athletes who have reached the pinnacle of their respective professions who could use the Mazda2 to achieve never-before-seen physical feats.

Athletes across four disciplines - Acrobalance, Parkour, Skateboarding and Breakdancing found a new stage to demonstrate and refine their talents. I am sure you will agree they have created some jaw dropping footage, with the Mazda2 being an integral part of each stunt.

Norton Way Mazda would like to take this opportunity to wish Sales Executive, John Kesting the best of luck in his retirement. Sadly on the 8th of January, John left the business after working for Norton Way Mazda for 10 years.

John started his career with us back in 2005 after moving from South Africa. In need of job, he walked into Norton Way with his CV in hand, and it was instantly obvious that he would be a fantastic asset to the team and someone who was sure to put a smile on a customer’s face. Since then he has sold over 1,500 cars for Norton Way Group and became a customer favourite.

We are sad to see John leave just wish him all the best and hope he enjoys a well-deserved holiday.

Good Luck John!N O R T O N W A Y M A Z D A • I S S U E 1 6 • F E B 2 0 1 6
