    THE STONE NEWS, PAG

The year was 1941.We were in college, working or

    just having fun.

Then our country needed us.The war had just begun. We came from villages, cities

and farmsTo answer our nations call to

arms. There was Fred and Ed, Dean,

and Lowell, too. That was the year of 1942.We were sent to camp to learn

how to fight;Rousted with a bugle call at the

    break of light

    And then sent to where ourservice would best be;

    Some to shoulder rifles and

others to serve at sea. This was the year of 1943.Scattered we were across the

earthA very long distance from the

land of our birth. This was the way it was while we

were at war. This was the year of 1944.We had fought our enemies for

over three long years. We were tired and, yes, we had

    shed some tears.

Then the war was over, and came home.

    Thankful to be alive.

This was a great year, 1945.Now the year is two thousaand nine. We have lived a very lo

    time. We have been called

greatest generation.Yes, we are proud to have serv

our nation. And as the time comes for

each to depart,We leave, thankful to God, w

    a love-filled heart.

    Start YourWeek with anInspiring Sunday

    by Mary Jo Blazek,

    Childrens Ministry Coordinator

Fall is a glorious time of year. The

leaves on the trees are changing, theair is cool and crisp, and the freshrains wash away summer dust.

This time of year can also be verybusy and exhausting, especially for

young families. School begins, sportsteams start up and with thoughtsof the holidays coming up, it can allbe very overwhelming.

Going to church on Sunday morn-ing could seem like just one morething to fit into an already busy sched-

ule. Or you could think of Sundays asa boost for the rest of your week.

Hearing Rev. Kens sermon, havingfellowship with church friends, seeing the children climbing thetree, participating in stimulatingadult study, drinking great coffee,

going to childrens church schooland learning childrens chimes areall intended to help your familyre-energize for the upcoming week.

Sunday is one day to thank God forthe rest of the week.

    See you Sunday!

The Childrens Chimes Choiris an excitinggroup starting for children, third gradeand up. You do not need to read music

nings at 5 pm. Were the group that cooks, eats and laughs a lot, thanks, in part, to agreat returning team of Steve Nelson andKate Wheatley. Come visit!

    Heres atasty book

member. It hasrecipes thatlook interest-ing and soundtried and true.

    L e o n a r doffers intriguing suggestions for

variations, such as adding onionsto mashed potatoes.

The recipes never use any kindof beef. They always use eitherchicken or turkey (ground or, asLeonard calls it, chopped), evenin spaghetti. I will certainly tryusing ground turkey the nexttime!

Leonard feels poultry enhancesflavor in a way that beef neverdoes. By the way, Leonarddoesnt feel that he has to do althe recipes from scratch, suchas spaghetti, but he adds to thecanned or bottled sauce to giveit a special touch.

He has a chapter on egg dishes

explaining how to make manyvariations. He also includes afew desserts, and Ive copied therecipe for Rye-Lemon Bread Pudding, which I want to use for theupcoming holidays. - Sue Evans
