Community News Two years ago, NOIAW and several other Italian-American organizations joined the Italian government to raise the required funds to reinstate the Italian language in the College Board's Advanced Placement Program. Various activities have been undertaken to support the program including scholarships, grants for teachers and teacher training projects. All eorts have been successful and the number of students taking the exam in 2013 rose to 1,980, an increase of 8.8% from

    the previous year.!

However, the agreement with the College Board requires that by the 2015-16 school year, 2,500 students taking the exam yearly or there is risk of jeopardizing the entire program.!

The Observatory of the Italian Language has approved a new strategic plan which requires participation by the entire community to ensure success. To learn more about keeping the Italian AP Program in our schools see Strategic Plan, or visit the Observatory of the Italian Language online at: USspeaksItalian.org !
