HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
Once again we are upon the holiday
season. I am sure you are like me and
have a lot to be thankful for. This
year will be the first time in eleven years that we have family here for
Thanksgiving. Having our son stay with us has been a blessing and wonderful
to get to know him again.
Winterizing my yard and home are not high on my priority list but it does
mean that all the outside work is done and now I will be able to sit down and
start quilting/sewing again. I hope you are all looking forward to more
fabric time like me.
Well the votes are in for our new Master Quilter! You will need to attend
the Christmas Party on December 10, to find out who it is going to be. Make
sure you sign up soon, it will be a lot of fun and there is sure to be a lot of
great food. Don’t forget if you have Christmas quilts, please give them to
Sue Humiston so she can have them hung in the Great Hall.
It is also time to renew our dues for next year. You can give a check or
renew on line at our website.
Remember, Thanksgiving only comes once a year, so be sure to eat lots of
turkey, stuffing, cranberries and of course the most important item,
PUMPKIN PIE. Happy Thanksgiving and please say a blessing for our troops
stationed away from home this holiday season.

PROGRAM MEETING
November 12 - 10 am @ SHARC
Our November speaker, Meg Cox, will be giving a presentation
of special interest to quilters in the age of Instagram - Take
Better Quilt Photos NOW! Many more people will see your
quilts in a photo than in person, so why not take the trouble
to show them at their best? Meg will explain the different
requirements for formal quilt photos versus social media
snapshots; sharing photos of celebrity quilters and their tips
and tricks. She’ll provide specifics about things like lighting
and free software to resize digital photos. This lecture
includes a slideshow and handouts, and a demonstration of
how to create a professional quality photographer’s set-up at
an affordable price.
Author and quilter Meg Cox is a sought-after speaker and
teacher at guilds and museums and a staff writer for
Quiltfolk magazine. Her journalism has been published by
dozens of national magazines and the Wall Street Journal,
where she was a reporter for 17 years. A past president of
the national nonprofit Quilt Alliance, Cox serves on the
advisory board of the International Quilt Study Center &
Museum in Nebraska and is the author of a resource guide,

Tuesday, November 5, 2019
10:00 am to 2:00 pm
Homestead Quilts
At the November Sit-n-Sew session, we’ll be working on
flannel and denim quilts for the homeless.
As of October 25, 153 service quilts have been completed
and delivered!
3In addition to donating quilts to local charities, the Ser-
vice Projects Committee supports the Humane Society of
Central Oregon. An incredible 92 dog beds were made over
the course of two workshops. The beds will be delivered to
the Humane Society in batches of 15 to 20, depending on
need.
Please plan to finish any service quilt kits you may be
working on at home before the end of 2019. If you won’t
be able to complete your kits, please return them to De-
nise Meese at an upcoming guild meeting. There are still
some quilts that need quilting and/or binding; please con-
tact Denise if you’d like to help finish these quilts.
Advance notice: there will be no Service Quilt Sit-n-Sew
session in December. Sessions will resume in January,
2020.
Thanks for your support!

TECHNIQUE OF THE MONTH
Hello Fellow Quilters!
October's Technique Of the
Month is all about Quilting As
You Go . . . with NO HAND
SEWING! Can you believe it?!
There are three short videos for one technique and one
short video for a second technique, the two of which I
combined in my latest quilt which I am Quilting As I Go.
If you've wanted to quilt your own quilts but didn't want all
of that bulk in the throat of your sewing machine, try
these techniques! You quilt column by column, with never
more than about 36 inches to the right of your needle!
Go to our website at www.mountainmeadowquilters.org, log
in, go to Forms, and choose Technique of the Month. You'll
find the instructions there!
Happy quilting!

show “My Kind of Town” - or it can be whatever we choose.
Please email your ideas soon to: [email protected]
Or bring them to the November program meeting. We will
vote at the meeting.

TREASURER’S REPORT
Good morning, quilters:
I have our financial results for the first three quarters of 2019, and it looks like we’re on track for positive net income
for the year. Although our bazaar revenues year to date are just under 90% of budget, I know Dorothy Spain has at
least two Mercantile Sales events scheduled for the holiday season, so it is quite likely she and her team will make budget
for the year. Thank you Dorothy and the entire Mercantile team for all of your efforts to support our guild programs and
events!
Our surprise winner revenue-wise has been our vendor booths at the quilt show: proceeds from our vendor booths were
over twice what was expected, for a total of $825, which was enough to pay for all the direct quilt show expenses such
as the afternoon band, the advertisements and printing costs, and other show supplies. The vendor booths have become
an important part of our show fundraising, as they help bring in visitors to the show and Mercantile, as well as cash di-
rectly to us. Thanks so much to Mike Carriger and his team for their efforts growing this important element of our quilt
show fundraiser.
Membership dues for 2019 continue to lag behind what was budgeted, but we also received a couple of unexpected cash
donations this year, so overall our total cash revenues for the year are 110% of budget. I do not anticipate any additional
revenues for 2019.
Most of our expense categories are right at or just below budget for this time of year. We would expect to have paid
75% of our expenses at this point, and we’re actually at 67%. This is good news, and I do not foresee any budget over-
ages for the year. Of course this all depends on my receiving expense reimbursement requests as soon as any expenses
are incurred, so please email them to me as soon as possible. Since I will be out for the area for most of November and
all of December, it is important I get your requests by email so I can prepare our 2020 budget in time for our first
meeting in January.
As of October 1 we had $7500 in the checking account and $12,600 in the savings account. Of the savings account,
$9700 is the balance in the retreat fund, including $3000 of participant payments made to date. The remaining $2900 of
the savings account is our “Excess Funds” account designated to new guild fixed assets.
Respectfully submitted,
Mindy Wolfman, Treasurer

Minutes – Board Meeting
October 16, 2019
Sunriver Library – Sunriver, Oregon
Robin called the meeting to order at 10:15 am. Per the Bylaws, a quorum was present.
Board Members in Attendance: Robin Bracken, Mike Carriger, Mindy Wolfman, Nancy Fischer, Marcia Schonlau,
Debra Ewing, Lavelle Wallace, Sally Wilson and Sandy Schmidgall
Guest(s) in Attendance: Jeri Banton
Approval of Minutes: Robin Bracken asked if there were any changes to the minutes of the Board meeting of May 16,
2019 and the Special Board meeting of August 27, 2019. There were no corrections to either minutes. Marcia Schonlau
made the motion to approve both minutes, as presented; Sandra Schmidgall seconded. A vote was taken; it was unanimous
and the motion was approved.
Treasury Audit: Sandra Schmidgall reported that there was a discrepancy of $85.40 in the checking account. It was a
very simple audit. We had 148 members at the end of 2018. Mike Carriger stated that there are 137 members at this
time. Debra Ewing asked how many hours it took to complete the audit as she thought it would be helpful for future audit
committees to know. Sandra estimated it was approximately 3-4 hours. Sally Wilson asked if she had assistance with the
audit. Sandra stated that Bonnie Schaefer worked with her on the audit. Marcia Schonlau made a motion to approve the
Treasury Audit; Sally Wilson seconded it. A vote was taken; it was unanimous and the motion was approved.
Programs: Robin read the section of Programs from the January 3, 2019 Board meeting minutes as follows: “Marie
Bostwick handed out the programs for 2019. Marie reviewed the programs and the cost of program fees. She is very ex-
cited about the upcoming programs and is bringing in some national teachers. Marie is requesting a larger budget than was
proposed. Robin Bracken asked if the budget amount for programs was appropriate. It was decided that Mindy will update
the budget. This will cause our budget to go slightly further into the red, but we have reserves. A discussion needs to
take place later in the year on where we want Programs to continue into 2020.” Marcia Schonlau asked what the budget
was for 2019; Mindy said it was $4,000. As of the end of September, Marie had spent only $2,700 with a few additional
costs still to be reported. Programs will be approximately $800 under budget. It was noted that there were 2 master
quilter programs during 2019. Mindy Wolfman reported that the budget will be $4,000 for 2020. Marcia felt this was
okay for 2020 due to our retreat but feels this may not be enough for 2021. Debra Ewing stated that due to the housing
cost, it is hard to have national teachers. Mindy felt that we cannot have national teachers on a regular basis. She does
not feel the budget can increase for Programs due to the lower sales in the Mercantile. There was a discussion on differ-
ent ideas for recruiting teachers. It was discussed to reach out to other guilds to have their master quilters do a pro-
gram for us. Robin Bracken confirmed that the budget for programs will stand at $4,000.
Folding Chairs: Robin Bracken stated that Karen Padrick would like to donate folding chairs to MMQ. Several questions
were discussed: Will MMQ use the chairs; is there room in the storage unit for the folding chairs? Robin suggested that
we accept 10 chairs from Karen for MMQ to use and that there is room for storage of the chairs in the storage unit.
Marcia Schonlau made the motion to accept 10 folding chairs from Karen Padrick; Lavelle Wallace seconded. A vote was
taken; it was unanimous and the motion was approved.
Sunriver Quilt Show Overview: Debra Ewing suggested asking the firemen to assist in hanging quilts. For their assis-
tance we would donate a quilt for their raffle. Debra asked if Nancy Fischer would investigate asking the fireman if they
could help us hang quilts from approximately 6:30 am to 9 am and come back in the afternoon from 4 pm – until they are
down. Of course, we understand that they would have to leave in case of an emergency call. Quilt hanging needs a plan for
intake as there may not be a building for us to use. Debra and Louise Carriger are working on a program to register quilts
online. If you do not have access to a computer, a paper copy for registering will be available. A discussion was held on
various ideas for quilt intake. Nancy Fischer suggested that we need to table finding a room for quilt intake until January.
Mountain Meadow Quilters – November, 2019 Page 10
BOARD MEETING MINUTES (continued)
She will be meeting with management of the Village after the first of the year to see how they can help. Karen Padrick
will handle publicity. We will be going back to larger posters. Nancy mentioned that bookmarks should be placed in the
property management companies. We are hoping that Crys Kyle will manage quilt intake. Nancy will find out from Alpine if
we need a tent for the village for the musicians.
Banners – Nancy will look into the banner situation with SROA. Those members that display their quilt in businesses will
be able to have them for sale. It was stated that we need a backup person for the special exhibit in the bookstore as
Judy Johnson may not be able to do it. Michael Carriger stated that we are already having vendors selling items that
Mercantile sells and how do we tell them not to sell. It was mentioned that since it is not in the contract, we cannot re-
strict what the vendors sell. However, having a layout of the vendors, which will need to be approved by the Sunriver Fire
Chief, will help in how the vendors are placed. Mindy Wolfman stated that the vendor fees in 2019 paid for all our ex-
penses. Jeri Banton stated that mercantile is our biggest fundraiser and having so many vendors was hard. It was
decided that Logistics, Vendor Management, Village Liaison, and our plans need to be finalized by March 1. It was decided
that we will not restrict what vendors sell during the Sunriver Quilt Show. Band: The Village asked us to hire an after-
noon band. The problem was the issue of the band next to the master quilter display. We need to work with the Village to
avoid this problem.
Service Projects: They would like to purchase dies to go with the donated Accuquilt. The costs are from $29 to $150.
Mindy Wolfman asked who would be storing them. Judy Long is currently storing the Accuquilt since she does most of the
cutting. The cost of the dies would come out of reserve funds since they are a fixed asset. The reserve fund is currently
$3,000. Mike Carriger made the motion to set a fixed asset budget item of $250 for the purchase of Accuquilt dies;
Sandra Schmidgall seconded it. A vote was taken; it was unanimous and the motion was approved.
Holiday Party: Barbara Owens reported that the cost will be $27 per person, which is the same as last year. Barbara
went over the menu. The Sunriver Resort will need a head count one week before and any dietary restrictions. The
budget for the Holiday Party covers décor and vendor lunches. Food is paid for by
those attending. Nancy Fischer stated that the Sunriver Women’s Club Winter Gala will leave their decorations for MMQ
to enjoy. They will come in after the Holiday Party and remove their decorations.
Proposed Amendments to Bylaws: Prior to the Board meeting, the proposed amendments to the Bylaws with a summary
sheet were sent to the Board. The Board reviewed the proposed amendments and made some changes. Nancy Fischer will
incorporate those changes and resend to the Board with the summary sheet for Board approval. Once the Board approves
via email, which our Bylaws allow, Louise Carriger will send out the proposed Bylaws and summary sheet to the member-
ship. According to our current Bylaws, this needs to be done by December 14, 2019 so the membership can vote on the
proposed amendments to the Bylaws at the business meeting on January 14, 2020.
Snow Days: Robin Bracken would like to propose that members will be alerted of a meeting cancellation no more than 18
hours prior to the meeting. An email blast will be sent out and phone calls will be made. Lavelle Wallace made the motion
that membership will be alerted no more than 18 hours prior to cancellation of a meeting; Sandra Schmidgall seconded. A
vote was taken; it was unanimous and the motion was approved.
Website: We are currently exceeding the Google forms maximum for free use. A charge of $29 per year will give us
unlimited capability for Google Forms. This amount is in the budget.
Insulated Fabric: Dorothy Spain has asked that the purchase of Insulbrite be deferred to 2020.
The meeting was adjourned at 12:15 pm.

STITCHIN’ POST
Get Ready for the Holidays!
It seems like the holidays creep up very quickly, so we have put together a program, ³The 12 Projects of Christmas,² and
are presenting one each week. The response has been wonderful. If you are interested, you can go online and sign up for
our newsletters (www.stitchinpost.com) To view the back issues, visit our blog (there is a link at the top right on our
home page).
We also have several Holiday related classes coming up. Lawry is teaching a darling Star Struck Santa, Wendy is offering
a ³Christmas Truck² Collage, and I am doing the strip pieced stuffed trees again that has been so popular. It is never
too soon to get started on your holiday gifts and decorations!
And speaking of the blog... I have been posting each month on the topic ³Dreaming in Color.² I discuss a topic or tech-
nique related to working with color in quilts each month. The response has been good, so you might want to check it
out. And don¹t forget our annual PJ Sale on November 9. See the details in our ad and on Facebook.
Enjoy your stitching adventures this month!

SEW MANY QUILTS & BERNINA CENTER
November is just around the corner – are you ready for the holiday season ALREADY?!
Probably the best news is that Bernina always celebrates the holidays in a big way. This
season they are celebrating with “Gifts Galore”. (Your gifts include a Bernina Bag,
Embroidery Software, Scissors, and much more!) If you purchase a B590, your Gifts Galore
are valued at over $4,500, or if you purchase a B790 or a B880 Plus, your Gifts Galore are
valued at $5,385! That’s the VERY good news – and now the better news, is that from
November 14 through December 31, Bernina is offering their 48- month interest free
financing on purchases of $3,000 and up! What could be more awesome?! A new Bernina,
Gifts Galore, and interest free financing! What a holiday celebration!
Classes are going strong, and new fabric continues to arrive! Moda’s newest collection “Harvest Road” (think soft blues, greens,
and browns) has just arrived, with all the bolts and precuts in stock! Come in and check it out!
We value your business and treasure your friendship,

BJ’S QUILT BASKET
Hello, Friends!
There are so many fun things going on at BJ's! The building has been painted -- no more too-cute blue -- and construc-
tion of our long arm room starts soon. I'm sure a few specials will pop up in November, so check our website and Face-
book page often. You can also sign up there for any of our wonderful classes and our great Block of the Month
programs. Kathy's Pre-cut Party will debut in January 2020 as well, so watch for details soon.
Thank you all for your support of this crazy venture of mine, it means
so much! Happy Thanksgiving.
Kathy
