NOVEMBER 28th GRADE 5/6 CAMP Yesterday I visited the Grade 5/6 campers and they were having a great time. As I arrived a group were setting off on horse riding while other groups had commenced canoeing, archery, a climbing wall, the giant swing, rafting, a maze, orienteering, etc. Their Tuesday group rotations needed some reschedul- ing due to the rain that we all experienced on Monday night which had made its way down to Bairnsdale on Tuesday morning. They were all talking about the previous night’s concert which was great fun. It is noteworthy to mention that during the canoeing group conducted by Mr Caulfield that he was tipped out of his canoe and had to swim 50 metres to shore. After years of splashing students in their canoes, justice finally prevailed. GRADE 6 to YEAR 7 TRANSITION INRFORMATION Parents looking to select a secondary school often ask the following question – ‘What schools do the Grade 6 students move to in Year 7?’ Here is this year’s list of schools our current Grade 6 students are moving to in 2020. OVAL WORKS As mentioned in a previous newsletter, we have been pursuing through several avenues, additional funding for a much needed upgrade to our school oval. I have been advocating this goal with Jackson Taylor for some months now. Last week he asked a question about our oval in Parliament to Minister Merlino and the script of that question is below - “Mr TAYLOR (Bayswater) (11:53): (1442) My constituency question is to the Minister for Education. I rise to ask the minister what can be done to assist The Basin Primary School with the issues they are currently having with their school oval. This government has a strong and proud track record of supporting schools. New ovals, new classrooms, new facilities, new gyms—you name it, this government has provided it, because it knows just how important it is to provide 21st-century facilities to give kids the best opportunity to learn and play. Indeed in Bayswater I was proud to secure a new building for Bayswater Primary School as well as a new syn-thetic oval for Boronia Heights Primary School in this year’s budget, not to mention the $7.7 million in upgrades already at The Basin Primary School. That said, there is always more to do. I know from working with The Basin Primary School and their dedicated principal, Graeme Russell, that their oval is in need of an upgrade and in need of a bit of love so the kids out there can continue to enjoy their play spaces. I have been advocating since getting elected to see if the school can have a better oval and we can get on and get some works happening there. I thank the Minister for his consideration of my question, and I thank him for his work in continuing to build the Education State, especially in Bayswater.” Fingers crossed, Minister Merlino will respond favourably to that question in the not too distant future.

SAUSAGE SIZZLE AND ICYPOLE DAY! To finish off our year, we will be holding a Sausage Sizzle and Icy pole day on Thursday 12

th December. The

proceeds from the sausage sizzle will be used to purchase equipment for our’ Play Is The Way’ program. The proceeds from the icy pole sales will be supporting a Junior School Council initiative for Warwick East Primary School in North Queensland, which had a recent fire and lost two original buildings. This school has a similar history to TBPS. An order form will be sent out shortly. Please return the completed form with the correct money no later than Monday 9

th December. We will be working around the swimming program so that all students will have the

opportunity to participate. STAFFING NEWS Following an extensive recruitment process, it is with pleasure that I announce that Ms Julianne Wilson has been appointed to our Learning Specialist – Literacy position. COMPASSPAY

Our school currently uses the COMPASS system tor student attendance, reporting absences and student

reports. Starting next week we are commencing the use of COMPASSPAY which will enable parents to make

payments including school fees, excursions, etc. Many parents may already be familiar with this system if they

have a child in secondary school.

We are launching this system alongside of the 2020 School Fees. Parents will receive notification and

instructions through COMPASS on Friday. We have also attached the COMPASSPAY instructions in this week’s

newsletter. Parents requiring assistance can approach the office staff for help.

2020 SCHOOL FEES

As previously advertised the School Council have increased the school fees by $5 raising the Excursion Levy

from $95 to $100 dollars to cover the usual annual increase bus costs for excursions. Once again parents can

pay the fees in full or in three instalments with the first one being paid at the time of collecting the children’s 2020

school stationary pack. The stationary packs will be available from the office in early December.

P/1/2 SWIMMING PROGRAM

Knox Leisureworks - Tormore Rd Boronia

Monday 2nd – Fri 13th December 2019

Thank you to all families who have returned swimming

program notices and payment. We would also like to thank those

parents who have offered assistance in travelling on the bus and

helping in the change rooms. Rosters of parent helpers will have

been sent out by the classroom teachers this week. Don’t forget

to name all of your child’s possessions. Children usually bring

a named swimming bag (often a plastic bag) to lessons rather

than their school bags. It is also suggested that students wear

their bathers underneath school uniforms. If your child has any

skin allergies or conditions there are poolside showers available.

If your child needs to use these showers please advise their

teacher in writing. Please note that instructors will be assessing

children over the first few days of the program and many

changes to groups will take place. This is particularly relevant to

students who are new to our school this year and students who

did not participate in last year’s program. At the conclusion of the

program all students will receive a certificate of achievement.

Wednesday 4th and Wednesday 11th are Pyjama days where

the focus is on life saving skills. Students in Grade 2 will have the

opportunity (if they choose to) to trial for next year’s swimming

team on Thursday 12th Dec. Students will also have their fun

day on the last Friday.

On Wednesday 4th December the PFA are co-ordinating a morning tea for all our fabulous staff, to thank them for their tireless contributions to our children’s education this year. We are asking YOU to bring a plate of delicious food for the staff to enjoy. Home-made or bought, sweet or savoury, a fruit platter, muffins, to be reheated or cold….all will be welcome. Members of the PFA will also be bringing tasty treats. Please bring your contributions to the office either on Tuesday afternoon (3/12) or on Wednesday (4/12) at the start of the day, preferably on a plate that is compostable or recyclable. Any queries, please contact Lynne Simpson (whose son James is in 2H) via Messenger or email [email protected].
