. o` e St. Peter Roman Catholic Church Mission Statement
Our mission is to proclaim the Kingdom of God by living the Gospel
of Jesus Christ through Word, Sacrament, and Service as taught by
the Roman Catholic Church. St. Peter Parish is a community of
dedicated Catholics centered on the Eucharist, which is the source
and the summit of all that we do and hope to become. Approved August 19, 2014
PARISH SACRAMENTS
SACRAMENT OF THE MOST HOLY EUCHARIST
As a parish, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is central to who we are and what we do.
Regular Mass Times are listed on the front of the
bulletin. Please contact the office for special Mass times during Lent and Holy Days of Obligation. To
receive formation for First Holy Communion,
contact the Parish Office, 896-9408.
SACRAMENT OF CONFESSION Essential to the Christian Life, the Sacrament of Confession is where we come into
contact with Christ who wishes to heal and bless us.
Regular Confession is an integral part of practicing
our Faith and experiencing the peace and joy of a
personal relationship with Jesus. 30 minutes before
every Mass, the Sacrament of Confession is offered. If you need to receive the Sacrament of Confession
for the first time, contact the Parish Office, 896-
9408.
SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Through the waters of Baptism, the new Christian enters the Church and is given Eternal
Life. To have your infant baptized, please contact
the Parish Office at least 2-4 months prior to the baby’s due date so that there is enough time to
complete preparation for the Sacrament.
Parents should be registered, participating members of the Parish Family.
Proposed Sponsors (Godparents) should be
attending Mass regularly. Both parents and sponsors receive a Baptismal Packet which must be
completed and received before attendance at a
Baptismal instruction class is scheduled. A Baptismal date is determined after all Church
requirements are satisfied.
If you are a parent or an adult seeking the Sacrament of Baptism, please contact the Parish
Office, 896-9408.
SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE In the beginning, God created mankind
as one, male and female. Christ elevated this union to the level of a Sacrament, an image of His own love
for His Bride, The Church. Our Parish Family is
made up of many beautiful marriages who enrich the Church and the world. Couples discerning the
vocation of Holy Matrimony should contact the
Parish Office to begin the journey of preparing for their new life together no later than 6-9 months prior
to the desired wedding date.
SACRAMENT OF ANOINTING OF THE SICK AND FUNERAL/BURIAL
ARRANGEMENTS The Church and her Sacraments
accompany us at every moment of our life. When
we are very sick or nearing the end of this life, we receive the healing of Christ through Anointing of
the Sick. Please contact the Parish Office, 896-9408,
to make an appointment. Also, contact the church office before
you contact anyone else in making funeral
arrangements. We are here to guide you through that most difficult time.

DIVINE MERCY MESSAGE
“JESUS, I TRUST IN YOU” St. Faustina: “All for You, Jesus. I desire to adore Your mercy with every beat of my heart and, to the extent that I am able, to encourage souls to trust in that mercy, as You Yourself have commanded me, O Lord.” (Diary 1234)
PRO-LIFE REFLECTIONS
A human being, in distinction to animals and things, can in no way be dominated by anyone.
~ The Gospel of Life, 19
REFLECTION: If representatives of the Church abuse children, the State steps in. The Church
likewise has a duty to intervene when the State allows abortion. America is proud of its freedom of religion, and of its protection of human rights. The two can go together, as long as “separation of Church and State” never means that either one looks the other way when human rights are violated.
PRAYER: Lord, may both Church and State be faithful in their duty to protect human rights.
The Holy Father, Pope Francis, has granted a plenary indulgence to those who participate in Fete-Dieu du Teche.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
Eucharistic adoration is the practice of devout prayer before the Body of Christ in the Eucharist, displayed outside of Mass. The origins of Eucharistic adoration are not well-known. One of the first references to reserving the Blessed Sacrament for adoration is in the life of St. Basil the Great in the late fourth century. St. Basil supposedly divided the consecrated Eucharistic bread into three parts during the liturgy at his monastery. One part he consumed himself; the second was given
to the monks; and the third portion was placed in a Golden Dove suspended above the altar. It seems likely that this reserved portion was kept for those who were unable to attend the liturgy because of illness or travel. The practice of Eucharistic adoration among laypeople is thought to have begun in Avignon, France, on September 11, 1226. King Louis VII, having just won a victory over the Albigensians, asked that the Blessed Sacrament be placed on display at the Chapel of the Holy Cross. This exposition was so popular that the local bishop asked to have it continue indefinitely. Pope Honorius III gave his consent and the practice continued, nearly uninterrupted, until the French Revolution 1792. The longest-running Eucharistic adoration in the United States is with the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration in La Crosse, Wisconsin, who have been praying nonstop for more than 130 years. ~CatholicCurrent.org
When we go before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament we represent the one in the world who is in most need of God’s Mercy.” We “Stand in behalf of the one in the world who does not know Christ and who is farthest away from God and we bring down upon their soul the Precious Blood of The Lamb.

This unique retreat process is designed specifically to help retreatants experience the gentleness, mercy and compassion of Jesus as they walk the journey from pain to forgiveness. Participants re-connect on a spiritual level with the children who have been aborted and give them honor and dignity through many special exercises as well as in a memorial service. Those who journey through their grief allow God to transform their experience into one that brings hope, liberation and peace.

A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT SEVENTEENTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME
A prominent theme in today’s Gospel parable is generosity. Late at night, a sleepy friend responds to his neighbor’s request for food for an unexpected guest. Jesus suggests that it would be unthinkable for a friend to deny a friend in need. A friend would most certainly give what is asked and more. Through this story, Jesus illustrates God’s generosity. Good stewards realize the extraordinary love and graciousness with which God showers us. We need never convince God to be generous. God is already that generous friend. His abundant love bathes us in goodness. This week, prayerfully reflect on God’s generosity to us. What should our response be to that generosity?

Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in You will be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of Your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm.
