OSIS is an Industry initiative with the aspirationto promote development and usage of opticalmetrology in combination with 3 Co-Ordinate Measuring Machines (CMM).

Complexity and high integration costs are the foremost reasons that prevented large scale usage of optical sensors in combination with CMM‘s.

The abundance of available sensors and absence ofapplicable standards for integrating those into CMM Systems caused financial and technical risks for both Suppliers and their Customers .

For that, the OSIS initative was founded for the benefit of the industry with the following objective:

To create a binding Standard for

• Mechanical and Electrical Interface

• Data Interface (Software Integration)

• Accuracy Specification and Verfication

for integration of optical sensors into CMM.

Each Objective has been assigned to a workgroupwith participants of the industry and Institutes. The Workgroups are organized and hosted byDEA, Renishaw and Zeiss and have held 6 meetingsso far.The results are compiled and distributed by the NBT, Switzerland.
