Oracle Business Intelligence (BI) Applications are complete,

prebuilt BI solutions that deliver intuitive, role-based

intelligence throughout an organization.

These solutions enable organizations to gain more insight

and greater value from a range of data sources and

applications including Oracle E Business Suite, PeopleSoft, JDEdwards, Siebel, and third party systems such as SAP.

Oracle BI Applications are built on the Oracle BI Suite

Enterprise Edition, a comprehensive and market leading BI

platform.




OBIA is used to build completely custom BI applications, all on onecommon BI architecture.

Installation




OBI Apps Installation

It’s a package that contains

• OBIEE(Reporting)11g

• Informatica (ETL) 9.0.1 with hotfix2

• Data Warehousing Administration Console-DAC(Scheduling Tool)

Other

• Oracle database.

• JDK




Step 1:

The initial step is to identify the system requirements and

acquire the necessary details for installation of different software.

We need to make sure the database is in place and the necessary

supporting software are installed.

We would start with the installation OBIEE 11g. The OBIA

package needs OBIEE to be installed and ready for the whole

component installation. We select the necessary areas to be

installed and proceed with the installation.




Step 2

Next step is to run the OBI Apps Package. We get the metadata for

the following areas per installation.

• Service Analytics Fusion edition

• Contact Center Telephony Analytics Fusion edition

• Marketing Analytics Fusion edition

•UCM

The RPD contains metadata and connectivity details for the tool to

communicate with the database and query the same for providing us

with answers.




The RPD generated would look something like this.




Step 3:

Once all of the OBIEE and OBIA installation along with relevant database

accounts have been created we can start installing the ETL tool(Informatica).

Informatica being part of the BI Applications, it comes with a Client and

Server architecture.

Once the installation is completed we would restore the OOTB mappings tothe Informatica server. The mappings would contain metadata for processing

the transformation and loading of data from the source.

In this case the source being Siebel CRM we have to identify the changes to

the tables available from the source side and edit the mappings in

accordance with the same.




Step 5:

Once we make sure Informatica is up and running in a stable fashion,

the next thing is to configure the DAC(Data warehouse Administration

Console) tool. Run the DAC Installation file.

At the completion of the install, configure the client by creating connectionsto the DAC schema as we created earlier on in the Oracle database. It offers

to create the (empty) DAC metadata tables within the schema

These can co-exist with the Informatica repository tables in the same

database schema.

The source and target connections are then established. We identify a

particular subject area or tables for particular OOTB dashboards and run a

load on them. This tool runs the Informatica mappings and loads data into

the target database for which Informatica servers will be running it’s ETLroutines.



We then validate the reports in OBIEE 11g answers where the OOTB

dashboards would be populated with data from the data warehouse which in

turn would have data from the Source system. After the initial load we then

identify the mappings for the areas we would intend to use and run full loads

on them. This would load the re orts in answers with data for us to view.




Testing Process




We would be validating the install, data, features etc at each phase andstage. We shall make sure installation and its associated components arestable before moving onto the next piece.

OBIEE requires testing of its stability and the necessary metadata andthe connection details to the source and target.

DAC has its stability tested and the connection to the Informatica serversalongside the subject areas that we involve during the load.




Finally the OOTB reports for each areas need to be tested for their

validity of data and presentation. The required target reports need to be

addressed and presented in the right manner for easy navigation and

perusal.

Testing and validation does not stop with the above mentioned software.

It goes from the infrastructure available to the software that have been

included in the application. We would also need to test the availability of

enhancement patches and other segments while on this process.
