The Text
He rahimahu Allahu taala said: When Allah
commands the servant with a matter; there are
seven stages obligatory upon him with regard
to it:
First: The knowledge about it.
Second: Loving it.
Third: The determination upon the action.
Forth: The action.
Fifth: Its taking place based on the legislation(of Islam) with sincerity and correctness.
Sixth: The caution from action that wouldnullify it.
Seventh: The steadfastness upon it.
If the person knows: That Allah commanded
with Tawheed (Singling Allah with all forms of
worships); and prohibited from Shirk(Associating partners with Allah in worships),
or knows: That Allah permitted the selling and
prohibited the interest (Ribaa); or knows: That
Allah prohibited the eating of orphans wealth, and permitted for his guardian to eat (from it)
with fairness if he is poor; it is obligatory upon
him to learn what he has been commandedwith, and ask about it until he knows it, and
learns what he has been prohibited from, and
ask about it until he knows it.
And consider that to be the first matter, and it
is: The matter of Tawheed and Shirk.
Most of the people knew that the Tawheed is
the truth, and the Shirk is the falsehood, butthey turned away from it, and did not ask; and
knew: That Allah prohibited interest, but they
bought and sold and did not ask; and knew: The
prohibition of eating orphans wealth, andpermissibility of eating with fairness; but they
took orphans wealth and did not ask.
Second Level: Loving what Allah revealed,
declaring disbelief of one who hates it; due to
His saying: That is because they hate thatwhich Allh has sent down, so He has made
their deeds fruitless (47:9).
So, most of the people: They did not love theMessenger sallallahu alayhe wa sallam, but
hated him, and hated what he came with, even
if they knew that Allah sent him.
Third Level: The determination upon the
action; and a lot of people: Knew and loved, but they do not have determination; due to the
fear of change in their worldly (affairs).
Forth Level: The action; and a lot of people:When they have determined or acted, (then)
someone they respect from mashaykh or other
than them explained to them (the matter in a
different way). Thus, they left the action.
Fifth Level: It is that a lot of those who acted,
their action is not based on sincerity; if it wassincere, it was not correct.
Sixth Level: It is that the righteous people fearfrom the nullification of action; due to His, the
Most High, saying: Lest your deeds may be
rendered fruitless while you perceive not
(49:2). And this is from the least of things in
our time.
Seventh Level: The steadfastness upon the
truth and fear from the bad end; due to hissallallahu alayhe wa sallam: Indeed from
among you are those who act with the deed of
people of Paradise, and ending of him is with
the action of people of Hellfire (i.e. he will diewhile his is doing action of people of Hellfire).
And this is also: From the greatest of thatwhich the righteous people fear; and it is little
in our time; So, contemplate over the condition,
which you know about the people, in this(issue) and other than it, this will guide you to a
lot of thing that you do not know about; and
Allah knows best.
Few Explanatory Notes on the Text
So, the second matter in terms of what isobligatory upon us with regard to what Allah,
the Blessed and Most High, ordered us with is:
That we learn about it. Thus, it is the firstobligation and he started with it, as Allah, the
Blessed and Most High, said, So know that
none has the right to be worshipped except
Allah (47:19).
Thus, He started with knowledge before the
speech and action. Hence, whoever does not
learn what Allah, the Blessed and Most High, ordered him with and does not learn what Allah
prohibited him from, how would he perform
what is ordered with and how would he leaveoff what is prohibited from?! As it is said, The
One who has nothing cannot give anything,
and as it is said, How would one fear if he/shedoes not know what to fear? (Shaykh Abdur
Razzaq bin Abdul Muhsin Albadr 18).
The knowledge is the light for its possessor and
the lamp for its traveler. So, if he walks on his

path with knowledge and insight from the
religion of Allah, the Blessed and Most High, his steps in his walking would be correct unlike
one who works, strives, and tries hard without
knowledge and guidance. Umar bin Abdul
Azeez rahimahu Allah said regarding these(ones), Whoever worships Allah without
knowledge, what he corrupts is more than whathe corrects.
Therefore, the knowledge then is a great
foundation, a noble quest obligatory upon everymale and female Muslim to hasten upon. As a
result, the scholars advised that there is a
portion from knowledge for the Muslim in all
of his days.
He should hasten that the sun does not set in a
day, in which he has not obtained (some)knowledge. Thus, the knowledge is sought
from you daily and the evidence of that is clear
in the supplication of our Prophet sallallahualayhe wa sallam everyday after the Fajr
prayer: O Allah! I ask you for beneficial
knowledge. As a result, it is befitting that the
seeking knowledge is in the daily program ofthe Muslim, and that there is a portion from
learning and seeking knowledge in all of his
days. (Shaykh Abdur Razzaq bin Abdul
Muhsin Albadr 20-22)
So, the second matter in terms of what is
obligatory upon us with regard to what Allah, the Blessed and Most High, ordered us with is:
That we order our heart to love it. The love is
the driving force to every good and the caller toevery virtue.
Just as He sallallahu alayhe wa sallam said,Truly in the body there is a morsel of flesh
which, if it is sound, rest of the body is sound
and which, if it is diseased, rest of the body is
diseased. Truly it is the heart. Therefore, it isnecessary upon the Muslim to order his heart
always and forever with the love of Allah, His
Messengersallallahu alayhe wa sallam, and
the legislation of Allah.
Additionally, he should work on strengtheningthis love in his heart and expanding its size: So,he loves the prayer, fasting, righteousness, ties
of kinship, doing good, and truthfulness. He
hates the prohibited matters, sins, and illicitdeeds.
Hence, when the heart loves for Allah and hates
for Allah, the condition of the person isrectified. As he sallallahu alayhe wa sallam
said, Whoever loves for Allah, hates for Allah,
gives for Allah, and withholds for Allah, hecompletes his emaan, The firmest handhold
of emaan is loving for Allah and hating for
Allah (Shaykh Abdur Razzaq bin AbdulMuhsin Albadr 26-27).
