THANKS to all the Latino parents who made the Hispanic Heritage Lunch-eon a big success. Everybody was so pleased with the event! Not only for the delicious food they enjoyed but also for the signs of affection and kindness showed by the parents. Special thanks to Victor Valle and Marta Hurtado, Melina Molero and Emerio Guerrero, Guillermina Alvarado, Maria Olmedo, Wilmer Zunun and Maria Ruiz, Mildred Marrufo, Eduardo Casas, Melissa Garcia, Patricia Cuellar, to Ismael Organista’s grandma, who was wearing a neck collar, but was happy to help, Ansel Comer, PTA and Mari-anne Sanchez for their support and to Sylvia Ortiz, who became my right hand and coordinated the food line. Also, special thanks to Hot Wing Taqueria, Restaurant El Potrillo, Mojito Café and On the Border for their generous and delicious donations.
A big “Thanks” to all the parents that made it to the “Digital Lit-
eracy and Safety in Minutes” Part I and Part II Workshop. Lots of infor-
mation on Personalized Learning and Digital Safety was presented.
Parents asked several questions and Mrs. Francis and Mr. Boyle an-
swered with their expertise knowledge. Both presentations will be

1ST SPECIAL OLYMPICS EVENT
O n Friday, October 14th, 29 students from HBMS’s MOID/AU classes
traveled to Stars and Strikes to participate in our first Special Olympic
event of the year: bowling. After training for 8 weeks and learning all
the basics, we had 2 uninterrupted hours of bowling. So many parents,
grandparents and friends of our students showed up to help and cheer
the students on. It was a great event and wonderful time for all. Our stu-
dents would not have been as successful without our great MOID/AU
staff that put forth a so much energy to help each student find success
and fun.

Holcomb Bridge is offer-ing
Intro to Art A semester long art course for
high school credit This course is designed for 8th graders who are interested
in pursuing art at the high school level. Throughout the
course, students will be introduced to many aspects of
visual art, including but not limited to: art as personal
communication, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, design,
aesthetics, careers, art criticism and art history. At the
conclusion of Intro to Art, students will have acquired the foundation to continue into any
visual art pathway at the high school level.
Individuals considering this course should be self-motivated and dedicated to improv-
ing their artistic voice, abilities, and understandings.
Individuals will be expected to keep a sketchbook and use it regularly as a source of
inspiration and development of personal voice.
Individuals enrolled in Intro to Art should understand that this course is for high
school credit and cannot be dropped. Assignments, projects and assessments will
be of equal rigor to the high school Intro to Art curriculum
Requirements:
8th Grade only
Completed application (DUE NO LATER THAN NOVEMBER 4TH)
Be prepared to have art as a connection course for a full semester
Maintain satisfactory academic progress (passing all classes)
Acceptance into Intro to Art is based on consideration of the submitted application and any prior knowledge Ms. Marbry may have
of the individual’s artistic motivation, dedication and voice. Acceptance is not based solely on artistic skill or previous enroll-
ment in 6th/7th grade visual arts.

Book Fair
November 4th- 11th
T he Book Fair is our Learning Common’s library’s
only fund raiser of the year. All proceeds are
used to purchase more books and materials for our li-
brary and classrooms. Scholastic always has the latest
books our students request and want to read. Reading
daily remains the best way to boost reading skills which
affect all academic areas. The Book Fair will be open
every day at 8AM from November 4th – 11th. We invite
you to come in and shop with your child.

Centennial Baseball Golf Classic
The First Annual Centennial HS Baseball Golf Classic is scheduled
for Tuesday November 1st at the Rivermont Golf Club.
The Dugout Club Board and the families of Centennial Baseball are very excited about this inaugural event as we have a great day planned for all participants at a beautiful golf course, Rivermont Golf
& Country Club.
We welcome golfers of all skill levels. We also have multiple spon-sorship levels where you and your company can help the Centennial
Baseball program as we show off our upgraded facility.
