In the world of theater, the roar of applause signifies the end of a performance and the audience’s appreciation for a job well done. As we close the curtain on the Palace Theater’s 10th Anniversary Season, it is our turn to applaud YOU and the many supporters, patrons, and sponsors whose collective efforts not only made THIS season a success, but helped us bring a decade of show stopping entertainment, economic growth and cultural activity to the city of Waterbury. Nearly 2,000 performances, 1.3 million patrons, dozens of education programs and ten years later, the Palace marquee is shining brighter than ever and lighting the way for many more decades of entertaining new possibilities.

It is impossible to celebrate a decade’s worth of accomplishments without acknowledging the remarkable individuals, organizations and companies whose exuberant support brought us to the special place that we are today. If it were not for the dedication of our city officials, Board of Directors, community champions, staff members, volunteers, donors, and corporate supporters, the city’s spotlight would have never shone again on our landmark theater. That is why the Palace’s 10th Anniversary Season was more than just a milestone occasion. It was a true celebration of community spirit.

This report highlights the many loyal supporters whose generous contributions have helped ensure the Palace Theater’s success, and provides a glimpse at our

organization’s greatest accomplishments from the past season. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for a decade of support with a lifetime’s worth

With over 130 staged activities that included sold-out concerts and national premieres, the palace Theater’s 2014-2015 performance season was definitely one for the record books. After assembling the ultimate cast of local celebrities and A-List performers, the theater kicked-off its yearlong celebration with the star-studded debut of the community production Headlines & Headliners, the venue’s first original musical revue, which featured the region’s most talented performers channeling the many acts that graced the Palace stage throughout its 90-year history.

In the months that followed, the theater broke attendance records with a sold-out Anniversary Concert starring the legendary Steve Miller Band, and was granted the prestigious opportunity to present the Connecticut premier of the first national tour of Disney’s NEWSIES, in addition to the fan-favorite stage show I LOVE LUCY® LIVE ON STAGE.

From dog whisper Cesar Milan to Broadway belter Linda Eder, the rest of the Palace’s anniversary season featured a potpourri of dynamic performances that included country superstar Martina McBride, comediennes Kathy Griffin and Vicki Lawrence, the long-awaited reunion of alternative rock band Primus, and the celebrated return of Blue Man Group.

From start to finish, the Palace’s 10th Anniversary Season was a celebration of community spirit that centered on engaging the many organizations and supporters that championed for the theater’s success since its restoration.

The festivities began on the Palace’s official anniversary date with a mayoral proclamation and ceremonial ribbon cutting presented by the city and Waterbury Regional Chamber. The theater debuted its first historical exhibit in partnership with the Mattatuck Museum featuring dozens of artifacts, photographs and oral histories contributed by community members, and also produced its first, full-color anniversary supplement in the Republican-American, which highlighted the many economic, educational and cultural accomplishments the Palace has achieved as a result of its community partnerships.

To top it off, the theater ended its yearlong celebration with what has been called “the party of the decade” during its sold-out PALACE 10.0 anniversary celebration on May 1, 2015. Perfectly underscoring the theater’s role as Waterbury’s community gathering place, PALACE 10.0 invited patrons, partners and local residents to explore multiple spaces throughout the theater, each buzzing with themed entertainment,

specialty foods and live music that ran the gamut of musical interests and

embraced the theater’s mission to unite diverse audiences through the power of the arts.

With a focus on developing interactive and innovative approaches to learning, the palace Theater has made it a part of its decade long mission to provide educational opportunities for students of all abilities to engage with professional artists, experience live theater and make a positive impact through artistic expression and participation in the arts.

This past season, the Palace’s pilot journalism program “Making Headlines,” inspired by the musical NEWSIES, received national recognition for its educational merit and was one of only ten performing arts centers nationwide to receive a highly competitive Broadway League Education Grant. The Palace also continued to strengthen its decade long partnership with the Waterbury Arts Magnet School through creative learning opportunities that included master classes with professional touring artists and the expansion of the Palace’s “Learning in the Wings” job shadowing program, in which students train alongside professional technicians in the various departments of stage production.

The educational impact of the Palace’s 2014-2015 youth initiatives wasn’t limited to behind-the-scenes, however. Students also took their talents center stage, as the Palace proudly hosted the 7th Annual Connecticut High School Musical Theater Awards and Seven Angels Theatre’s 12th Annual HALO Awards, two prestigious ceremonies dedicated to honoring and fostering the talent of our community’s children.
