Lenten Regulations Following are the regulations for abstinence and fasting to be observed by Catholics during Lent: A fast and abstinence is prescribed for Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Fasting is observed by all Catholics between 18 and 59. Those bound by this may take only one full meal. Two smaller meals are permitted if necessary to maintain strength according to one’s needs, but eating solid food between meals is not permitted. Abstinence from meat is to be observed by all Catholics 14 years and older on all Fridays of Lent. By the threefold discipline of fasting, almsgiving and prayer the church keeps Lent from Ash Wednesday until the evening of Holy Thursday. All of the faithful and the catechumens should undertake serious practice of these three traditions. Failure to observe penitential days totally or a substantial number of such days must be considered serious.

Baby Bottle Project Our Parish will be participating in The Baby Bottle Project benefiting The Women’s Centers of Greater Chicagoland. This non-profit organization directly assists mothers and families experiencing crisis pregnancies by offering emotional, financial, material, and spiritual support through counseling, clothing & monetary provisions, prayer, and other aid. Each year the three locations together have over 5,000 appointments with expecting mothers. By God’s Grace, The Women’s Centers have saved over 36,000 babies — and their mothers — from abortion since

opening in 1984. Please take a Baby Bottle home with you, fill it with your spare change, and return it the weekend of March 21st-22nd. Baby Bottles are available at all doors of the church. This is a simple, but crucial fundraising effort for The Women’s Centers. Please note the Baby Bottles cost almost $1.00 per bottle and are recycled afterwards so please return upon completion of the project. Thank you for helping defend life, and remember to keep all pro-life undertakings in your prayers. If you wish to make a donation by check, please make it payable to: The Women’s Centers of Greater Chicagoland. Please do not make it payable to St. Christina Church.

St. Christina RCIA Program

• Have you expressed an interest in becoming Catholic? • Do you have a child over the age of seven who has not been Baptized? • Were you Baptized Catholic as a child, but have not celebrated the

Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist?

Sessions focus on the teachings and experience of Church and prepare individuals to celebrate the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist during the Easter season. There are separate sessions for children and youth. You are welcome to participate in the process with your questions, your insights, and your faith story in a warm, accepting setting. Classes for 2020-2021 will begin in the fall. For more information, please contact Al Adolfo at [email protected] or Sue Carter at 773-445-9539 or [email protected].

The abuse can be physical, sexual, emotional and psychological. Domestic violence can happen to anyone of any race, age, religion and gender. Domestic violence affects people of all socioeconomic backgrounds or educational levels.

St. Michael the Archangel We were recently gifted with an original oil painting of St. Michael the Archangel from the family of the late artist Michael Jewula. St. Michael is the patron saint of Police Officers and, more generally, all those who Serve and Protect. We are most grateful for this donation and Michael’s powerful artistry in the painting. The painting will be enshrined in our Adoration Chapel. All are welcome to view the painting and to spend some time with Our Lord in prayer.

Symmetry As the sixth-grade math classes walked into their math class on Ash Wednesday, they were given a partial picture of Jesus and they had to create the other half of the picture. This was a perfect assignment for Ash Wednesday and it so happened that the lesson was on symmetry. The sixth graders worked diligently on their pictures as you can see. They

are very proud of the finished product.

The money received will be used to purchase plants for spring planting in Mary’s Plaza and the parish grounds. All names of loved ones and donors will be published in the bulletin at a later date.

The training will prepare caring individuals to provide service to terminally ill patients and their family members. The required time commitment averages four hours per week. Bishop Robert Barron’s

Seven Deadly Sins, Seven Lively

Virtues

We are pleased to present Bishop Robert Barron’s enlightening study on sin and virtue for our parish Lenten program this year. Over the course of this program Bishop Barron will explore the “seven deadly sins” of pride, envy, anger, sloth, greed, gluttony and lust which keep us separated from God and each other and ultimately lead to unhappiness. Bishop Barron will present how the virtues of humility, admiration, forgiveness, zeal, generosity, asceticism and chastity can break the cycle of sin. Each week will cover one session. Each session will be offered on Tuesday evenings at 7:00-8:30 p.m. in the church and again on Thursday mornings at 9:30-11:00 a.m. in the Parish Center. Tuesday Evening Sessions in Church February 25, March 3, March 10, March 17, March 24, March 31, April 7 Thursday Morning Sessions in the Parish Center February 27, March 5, March 12, March 19, March 26, April 2, April 9 To find out more information, please contact Deacon Al at 908-507-1002.
