The reason why OHS Liaisons are collecting this information pertaining to OHS committees and contacts is due to the fact that the AUPE OHS standing committee would like to assess if GOA is fulfilling its obligations in respect to the corporate/AUPE program. Corporate Human Resources and AUPE collaborated years ago which resulted in the current Occupational Health and Safety program that is used as a system to manage the health and safety of all government services employees.

As many of you know almost all ministries are reflected in our local 2 and as such to map this out and have an idea as to the state of our employer's obligation we need to hear from each of you. This is to ascertain what the current status of your worksites are, are they adhering to the program or how they are not. This will not cover all sites of all members just yet but will provide a sampling to get a snapshot and begin seeing trends.

AUPE hears that that there are certain occupational health and safety concerns but when they attempt to address with employer there is often a response by the employer that the worksite committees have not heard of these being issues, or may not agree. However as some of you have commented not all committees appear to be struck as per the GOA program guidelines. 1) Where is your work-site located and with which ministry/dept/division? 2) Does it have an OHS Committee?

1. a) If no,is there a work-site contact? 2. b) If yes is it a local/office, regional or building committee? Or combination of

these? 3) If answer to question two b is yes:

1. a) Can you (or other members) identify AUPE members that sit on the committee?

2. b) does the committee (if you know) answer to a larger committee? 3. c) are there minutes made available from the committee? 4. d) Is there a bulletin board and are minutes from the committee posted on it?

Any other comments you would like to add/provide? How will the info be used? The information will be summarized and provided to council and the OHS AUPE standing committee. Only ministry and building/region are captured no other identifiers will be used as will provide in an aggregated format. Again this is to assess if there are committees or contacts at the worksites that the legislation and the program speak to. Often corporate is not aware of what is occurring on the front lines, nor is AUPE. The current restructuring within Human Services OHS committee set up is an example of this. Each local in Government Services is attempting to do this in order to provide corporate with the AUPE perspective and in some cases counter the party line management is giving to corporate.
