The harvesters bring their barley back to the y c w n d zi Awith excitement. Only yesterday afternoon, the y c w n d zi A hadbeen overflowing with the all the blood of the g q R zFp A xw thathad been brought. Yesterday, the mi p dFM had scrubbed out the
d xf r. That very morning, mi p dFM had brought the ci n Y zFp A xws qEne for g q R. Now the mi p dFM are getting ready for anotherimportant o A xw, the x nFr o A xw!
The harvesters give the barley to the capable mi p dFM. Themi p dFM begin their work. They thresh the stalks until the barleykernels fall down. They take the kernels and roast them over afire and then grind them into flour. The flour is sifted, sifted,
sifted thirteen times until only the the finest flour remains.Themi p dFM need about five pounds - a measurement of an x nFr - ofthe barley flour for the o A xw.
It is morning. A o dM mixes the flour with one bEl of oil and ahandful of levona spice to make the x nFr o A xw. The o dM putsthe mixture in a pan. He approaches the a df d g A f n and wavesthe pan as a dli t Y that rain and dew should come at the righttime. The s qEn o A xw is brought. Then the o dM takes a handful ofthe mixture, and puts it on the g A f n where it is burned. The restis given out for the mi p dM to eat.
Until the o A xw had been brought, it was forbidden to eat anygrain that had grown in the past year. The new grain is called
y c g. However, after the Omer was brought, all grain was called
o yi. Even today, food made from new grain is called y c g untilafter until the second day of g q R. y c g may not be eaten inIsrael. In Israel, they may only eat food from o yi flour. Somemi p A x say that even outside of Israel one may not eat y c g. andcan only eat food that is o yi.
