Principal’s Message
School Vision Announced
It is my pleasure to announce the
vision of St Joseph’s School for
the next 3-5 year strategic period
as A Connected Community.
Throughout the consultation
process, students, staff and
parents clearly indicated a desire
to be more deeply connected with
each other, our Parish, our wider
community and other local
Government and Catholic schools.
Whilst a connected community is
clearly our vision, we must as a
Catholic school ask the question -
what does this have to do with the
vision and mission of Jesus
Christ? I would argue everything.
The Gospel stories, when read in
isolation, clearly promote Jesus as
a teacher and as a miracle worker.
This is certainly true, he was both.
However, during his missionary
years on Earth (his final three
years), Jesus was above all
committed to establishing his own
community of disciples and
bringing these disciples into
community with him to teach,
perform miracles and bring others
into closer relationship with God.
As we work to establish A
Connected Community, it will take
a community effort to ensure our
students are grounded in a
Catholic sense of the word
‘community’.
My sincere thanks to students,
staff and parents who were a part
of the consultation meetings in
term 3, and to those who have
provided additional feedback
since. In the coming weeks I look
forward to providing a copy of our
School’s Strategic Renewal Plan
that will identify aims to reach our
vision.
Warmest regards,
John Hinton
Thank You:
Grandparents and
parishioners who attended
last Friday’s Grandparents
Day. Special thanks also to
students who accompanied
their Grandparents and Mrs
Freshwater and Teachers
for organising the
celebration.
Father Sunny and Mrs
Freshwater for organising
the All Souls Day Mass last
Friday morning.
Marilyn Murray for visiting
the year 4/5 class and
teaching some specialised
artistic skills.
School/Parish Inclusive Think Tank Over recent months, a group of staff and parishioners have met to build stronger connections between our School and Parish. In coming weeks, a survey will be emailed to all parents asking how this connection might be enhanced for the future. If you would like to access the survey before the email is sent, it can be access via the link below. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/QT5PDRC Archbishop’s Visit to Childers New Archbishop Mark Coleridge will be visiting our Parish, celebrating Mass on the weekend of the 15th / 16th of December, 2012. I would encourage all families to mark this day in their diaries. More details will follow in subsequent School and Parish newsletters. Isis High Awards The Isis High annual awards ceremonies were held last Wednesday. All year 7 St Joseph’s students attended the day ceremony. Our year 7 students’ attention and behaviour was not surprisingly outstanding and they were justly rewarded with chocolate milk on their return to school. My congratulations to all Isis High award recipients. A special congratulation to ex-St Joseph’s students Grace Randall (outgoing 2012 School Captain) and Bernadette Steinmann (2013 School Captain) and Kristie Krieger (2013 School Vice-Captain).
From the APRE
Last Friday we invited Grandparents to join us at
school for the morning. We were overwhelmed with
the response we received. It was wonderful to walk
around the school and see the pride on the faces of
not only our Grandparents, but also on the faces of
the children as they ‘showed off’ their Grandparents
to their friends. It became very clear that ‘family’ is a
valued part of the lives of the children here at St.
Josephs.
The family is the first and fundamental school of social living: as a community of
love, it finds in self-giving the law that guides it and
makes it grow.
Pope John Paul II, 1981
At this time, in the Year of Grace, the Bishops of
Australia urge us to consider the essential role that
families play in our society. Our workplaces are
changing and at times placing demands on families.
These demands sometimes make it harder for
families to be together, to nurture love, to
strengthen bonds, to learn and to teach. We are
called to give special consideration to those families
in our community who may be facing these particular
stresses. This is a perfect way to begin working
towards our vision of creating ‘A Connected
Community’, where we are there for each other in
times of difficulty.
Have a great week

Golfing success for Amara and Sophie
On Sunday, November 4, several St Joseph’s
students representing the Isis Junior Golf club
travelled to Hervey Bay to participate in the
final round of the Wide Bay Junior golf . This
was also the final chance to participate in the
Greg Norman points challenge and
presentations took place at the end of the day
for both. Sophie Martell was successful in
winning the nine hole girls net prize for the
day. Amara Burns was awarded the overall
2012 Greg Norman net prize for the combined
six hole girls and boys shark challenge.
