Pellerin, formerly sales manager of Blue Water Marine Supply Company, has been named vice president in charge of sales for Blue Water and its sister company, Rig-A- ],ite, Inc., in a move which combined the two sales forces. Walter E. Turner, with Blue ~-ater since its inception in 1961, has been named sales manager for the heavy marine equip- ment firm. Congressman Bob Casey, chairman of the new sub committee on maritime education of the Merchant Marine and Fisheries Committee of the Houseof Representatives, urged the youth of our nation to consider attending a maritime school to prepare for a life at sea in Houston recently. The Congressman was the speaker at the launching of a 16-foot steel-hull boat by Sea Scout Ship 257, sponsored by the Propeller Club of Houston, at the Port of Houston Turning Basin. A new U. S. Coast Guard ReserveTraining unit was commissioned recentlyat brief ceremonies at the Dickson GunPlant in Houston. Tile new unit will pro-vide reserve training in the field of mer-

chant marine safety, a major finlctionof the regular U. S. Coast Guard.

This is the third Coast Guard Reserveunit in tile Houston area but the firstassigned to marine safety. The other twotraining groups are assigned to portsecurity and vessel augmentation pro-

grams. A total of approximately 20 offi-cers and 200 men train in the three

groups.

The U. S. Coast Guard is charged withthe enforcement of laws established topromote the safe operation of our mer-chant fleet. This work includes every-thing from approval of original plansbefore ship construction begins to peri-odic safety inspections of all merchant

and passenger ships, including the licens-

ing of operating personnel.

The new unit will utilize the. experi-ence and skills of senior Reserve officers.

The first Commanding Officer of the newunit is Commander Stanley Walter.USCGR.

E. M. Altemus has been promoted toassistant general manager of the Hous-ton Port Bureau, W. E. Fincher, generalmanager, anllotlnced.

C. S. Parker, who formerly held theposition, has been named traffic man-ager of Gaheston Wharves.

Altcmus has been with the HoustonPort Bureau since July, 196’1. He is agraduate of the University of Houstonwith a degree in transportation. He wasformerly employed by Pctro-Tcx Chemi-cal Corporation.

British OpenTrade Office

The British Consulate-General inHouston has announced the opening of atrade office in Dallas under the directionof O. B. Mackie. Vice Consul (Commer-cial).

Since the closing of the British Consulate in Dallas in 1956. there has beenno permanent representative there. Thenew office will deal exclusively withtrade questions. Consular matters willstill be handled in Houston.
