Holiday Schedule Republic Services observes the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. If one of these holidays falls on your collection day, your service will be delayed for the entire week. For example, Mondays collection will be collected on Tuesday, Tuesday collection will be collected on Wednesday and so on. Your service will resume its regular collection schedule the following week. Holiday Tree Collection Holiday trees will be picked up at curbside for recycling from December for four weeks beginning December 26th. Place the tree at the curb no earlier than noon on the day preceding your regularly scheduled collection. Please remove all decorations, ornaments, lights, garland and tinsel, as well as the stand. If your tree is more than 6 feet tall, please cut it in half before placing it at the curb. When you set your tree at the curb, it should be bare.
Utility Users Tax Exemption Discount Residential customers who apply and qualify for the Utility Users Tax Exemption shall be entitled to a discount on solid waste collection fees.
Senior Citizens Discount Seniors are eligible for a 10% rate reduction discount if they are the head of household of the residential premises which receives collection services, are at least sixty-two (62) years of age, and must receive supplemental Social Security benefits.**Restrictions apply.
Military Discount An active member of the military may be stationed away from home for periods of time. This rate reduction will apply to the property so long as the military member maintains the property as his or her permanent residence. Restrictions apply. Commercial/Multifamily Organics Recycling (AB 1826): California Assembly Bill (AB 1826) requires that as of January 1, 2019, businesses that generate 4 cubic yards or more of commercial solid waste per week shall arrange for organic waste recycling services. Multi-family dwellings of five or more units that generate the required threshold of organics or solid waste are required to arrange for recycling of green waste, tree trimmings, and nonhazardous wood waste (refer to Types of Waste Section). Mandatory Commercial Recycling Regulation (AB 341): In January 2012, Assembly Bill 341 (AB 341) was signed into law in California to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. AB 341, also called the “Mandatory Commercial Recycling Regulation,” requires businesses that generate more than four cubic yards of commercial solid waste per week and multi-family residential dwellings of five units or more to implement recycling programs, on or after July 1, 2012.
Multi-Family GuidelinesMultifamily residential dwellings with five or more units are required to implement a recycling program imposed by AB341, signed into California law in 2011. Multifamily complexes may subscribe to source-separate recycling and green waste collection. Charges for service vary depending on size and type of container and frequency of collection.

Arbolitos Festivos Naturales Estaremos recogiendo arbolitos serán recogidos en la acera para el reciclaje de diciembre por dos semanas a partir del 26 de diciembre. During blue weeks place your recycling cart curbside next to your garbage cart.
During green weeks place your yard and food waste cart curbside next to your garbage cart.
No collection Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Years Day. If your collection day falls on or after a marked holiday, the collection day will shift one day the rest of the week. (i.e.,Tuesday collection will occur Wednesday.)
Extra Garbage: Place securely tied plastic bags labeled “GARBAGE” (max. 50lb. weight limit) next to the cart or 32 gallon lidded can. Extra fees will ap-ply for additional units and for primary cans without closed lids.
Extra Yard Waste: You may receive up to three lifts per collection period before added fees are applied. Label “YARD” and place next to cart. NO food scraps outside of cart. Please DO NOT use plastic bags. You may use: Kraft paper bags and place next to food/yard cart (available at hardware stores); 32-gallon cans with handles and lids (max 50lb. limit); Bundles (4’x2’ limit) tied with twine.

Bulk Item & E-Waste Collection Large household items that do not fit inside your carts need to be scheduled for bulk item collection. Residential and multi-family premises receive four (4) collection pickups per calendar year with up to three (3) items per pickup.Customers should contact our office at least 24 hours in advance to schedule a bulk item pickup at 800.299.4898.
HHW Disposal Some wastes are too toxic for your trash! Please make sure that you keep household hazardous waste (HHW), universal waste and electronic waste out of your recycling, waste and green waste carts. HHW includes lawn and garden chemicals, paints and paint thinners, used motor oil and antifreeze, and other cleaners and chemicals used around the house and yard. Keeping these toxics out of the trash is easy. There are permanent collection centers, called S.A.F.E. Centers, as well as mobile collections. For more information, visit http://ladpw.org/epd/hhw/.
Medical Sharps and Needle DisposalRepublic Services provides Residential Customers, at no additional charge a pre-paid mail-back container to safely collect used Sharps and send Sharps for proper Disposal. Residents are limited to four (4) containers at no additional charge per year.
Tire RecyclingTires are not permitted for disposal in your trash, recycling, or green waste containers. To find a center that accepts used tires, call: 1(888)CLEAN LA, (888) 253-2652 or visit their website at www.888cleanla.com.
Cart Placement/Exchanges On trash collection day, please remember to:1. Place your carts out, wheels against the curb, no later than 6 a.m. on your day of service or after 5 p.m. the night before.2. Remove your carts from the curb once they are emptied, within 12 hours of service.3. Residents may exchange their carts for recycling, trash and green waste by calling Customer Service.
Roll-Out ServiceFor an additional fee, carts can be rolled, serviced, and returned for you.Roll out service is available for free for residents that are disabled. Must provide a copy of the DMV handicap placard, or a doctors note stating the resident is physically unable to roll carts. There must not be an able-bodied resident living at the residence. Annual renewal may be required.

Scavenging and Illegal DumpingScavenging is the removal of materials from trash and/or recycling bins by someone other than the City’s service provider, Republic Services. Per Section 8.12.160.H. of the Whittier Municipal Code), illegal dumping is a misdemeanor crime punishable by law. Theft of these materials from your collection bin increases the cost of recycling collection and will ultimately cost you, the rate payer, more money.
