The project includes over 5 miles of embankment, over 4.5 million cubic yards of embankment fill, a composite liner of over 780 acres, and a state of the art groundwater monitoring system. The reservoir will provide the water supply required to meet the long-range needs for the communities served by the Columbus Division of Water and the Del-Co Water Company. Floor vibrations are probably the most criticalserviceability issue for steel framed buildingsTodayrsquos more efficient floor systems together withsparse office-fit out require designers to carefullyconsider vibration concerns due to all types ofhuman activity In particular office fit-out hasdramatically changed in the last decade resultingin many floor vibration problems because of thelack of mass and damping Rhythmic activities inoffice buildings such as aerobics in health clubshave also generated significant problems in theform of complaints from occupants elsewhere inthe buildings Equally important is the vibrationboth vertical and lateral of footbridges Recentlateral vibration problems with footbridges in theUnited Kingdom and New Zealand have caused

closure and required extensive retrofitting A gen-eral overview of human response to floor andfootbridge vibrations including recommended de-sign procedures will be presented Criteria in theAISCCISC Design Guide 11 Floor Vibrations dueto Human Activity and that from recently complet-ed research will be discussed
