The Usual Suspects(1995)

• Titling lasts for about 2 minutes. (also includes lists of actors, and directors, costume designers)

• Dark setting (night time)• Background is a sea or ocean (this is done

because it may play a big part in the film.)• Moonlight reflecting off the water, gradually gets

darker until no light. Background ends up being pitch black. Darkness can connote conflict.

The Godfather(1972)

Mario Puzo’s name is seen above The Godfather titling. Although he did not even direct the film, he wrote the screenplay. However his novel was released about 3 years before the film. As it was a popular book, seeing the well known Mario Puzo’s name in the titling makes the audience aware that the film is of high quality.

The titling “The Godfather” is shown for around 8 seconds, nothing else is shown which tells the audience that it is all about The Godfather and gives him a sense of importance, no one else matters. He is the centre of attention. Afterwards it gets straight into the film and no other titling is shown, This is done because now the audience have an insight on who The Godfather is in this film and it gets straight into it and gets the audience focused from the start.
