Program Rationale: New guidelines in Urology have emerged to assist practice, but there are new developments as the field evolves. Many office practices can be enhanced through the application of new techniques and treatments to improve the delivery of patient care and to facilitate efficiency in that care delivery. We expect physicians who attend this course to gain an introduction to new medications, technology, guidelines, and procedures which expand and enhance the delivery of patient care in the Urology office setting. In so doing, we will facilitate their incorporation of these advances into their patient care.

Program Objectives: After participation in this activity, participants should be able to:

Objective 1: Apply knowledge gained to optimize screening and diagnosis, office treatment, and follow-up evaluations for the range of urological malignancies.

Objective 2: Evaluate treatment options for female patients with pelvic floor issues, including incontinence, pain, urinary tract infections.

Objective 3: Effectively evaluate causes of stone disease, and provide patients with meaningful diet instruction, medical management, and counseling to decrease the recurrence of stones.

Objective 4: Identify those patients who are not good candidates for ESWL, so as to be able to optimize treatment strategies for them.

Objective 5: Evaluate causes of male infertility, impotence, and low testosterone.

Objective 6: Effectively manage impotence, low testosterone, orchalgia, Peyronie’s disease, and male pelvic pain/prostatitis.

Objective 7: Recognize new methods to save endoscopic findings for later review and documentation.

Objective 8: Define ways in which to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of Nurse Practitioners and Billing and Coding specialists in office practice.

Target Audience: Urologists, Urology-office Allied Health Professionals

Accreditation: North Shore-LIJ Health System is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide Continuing Medical Education for Physicians.
