CASE STUDY BACKGROUND Orea Resources LLP successfully tendered for the contract to recover redundant wheeled bins in part of a local authority area in the north west of England. Orea successfully completed the project within the specified period and to budget. THE PROCESS • Orea teams followed closely the council’s recycling crews • Empty bins loaded into 7.5t and 18t vehicles depending on area covered • Vehicles returned to central bulking point for unloading • Bins stockpiled and dismantled • Wheels and axles removed using wheel presses developed by JA Innovate Ltd • Dismantled bins loaded on to trailers and sent for recycling – 1,100 at a time THE REQUIREMENT • To gather in redundant wheeled bins from up to 47,000 households in a 150 square mile area • Orea teams had to shadow two council recycling collection crews Bins had to be recovered in a six week period •Bins had to be recycled THE RESULT • Over 25,000 bins recovered, dismantled and dispatched for recycling within the contract period • 150 tonnes of plastic generated for recycling • 25 tonnes of metal recycled • New approach to wheel removal used significantly reducing health and safety risks compared to traditional method CONTACT Paul Morgan E: [email protected] T: 07540 170877 Search for Orea Resources LLP on
