DEAN’ S LETTER Dear York Chapter Members, Thanks to Jonathan Noel and St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church for realizing the dream of a French style symphonic organ in Central PA. A large turnout to the organ recital by Douglas Bruce proved to be very enjoyable and enlightening. The York Chapter has received a generous contribution in the amount of $1000.00 for our scholarship fund. The gift is given by Mrs. John (Kim) Whiteley of York in memory of her late brother-in-law (Peter R. Whiteley) who was an avid organ lover and part-time organist in the Lansdale-Philadelphia area. Kim is a member of First Presbyterian Church, York. Her late husband John sang as a choir member and was a tubist. There is no program in December, so I wish each of you a season of joy and prosperity as we enter in Advent and Christmas.

Piano needs a good home The piano is a Wurlitzer. I can't believe but it must be 55 years old. The piano is in tune and the keys and body are in excellent shape. I just would like to find someone student who needs a piano. If you know of anyone I would love to give it to them. Linda S. Lopez 19 N. Russell Street York, PA 17402*

Subject: Recruiting at Notre Dame Greetings, At the moment I am recruiting students for our Master of Sacred Music program at the University of Notre Dame. We are extremely excited about what is going on here. The degree combines music (two organ recitals, organ literature, music history) and liturgy courses. There are details of the program on the website: http://www.nd.edu/~msm/ There are eight organ students in the MSM program—four in each class. The program is extremely competitive (we had sixteen applications last year for four slots), and the level of playing is extremely high. The assistantships pay full tuition for two years plus a stipend of $12,500 per year for two years. Typically a student on an assistantship works in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on campus. All students in our MSM program are supported with tuition grants. If you know of any prospective un-dergraduate students or others who are not currently enrolled in a graduate program, I would appreciate hearing from you. If you have any names to suggest, I am happy to contact them. Our new DMA program is nearly ready to accept applications. Watch for details soon. Our new Fritts organ and organ hall are stunning. We have an eclectic-style tracker organ in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart that is also used for teaching, practice, and performance. You can see the Fritts at http://music.nd.edu/about/facilities/o-malley-organ-reyes-organ-and-choral-hall/ If you know of anyone who might be interested in applying, I am happy to hear from you. Or, give the prospective student my email address and/or phone number. Many thanks for your help, and all the best, Craig Cramer, DMA Professor of Organ University of Notre Dame Notre Dame, Indiana USA 574-631-7836 http://music.nd.edu/faculty-and-staff/craig-cramer/
