About the Founder• Andrew Klaber started

Orphans against AIDS in 2002 to provide education and healthcare funding for children orphaned by AIDS.

• After his sophomore year of college, Klaber spent some time in the developing world. In the 10 weeks in northern Thailand, he witnessed young girls working in the sex trade.

About the Founder• That experience inspired Klaber

to found OAA. Since then, the non-profit organization has provided education and healthcare funding for children orphaned or otherwise affected by AIDS in developing countries.

• In Harvard Business School MBA Class of 2010, he was named one of the winners of the School's prestigious Dean's Award to honour his goal “to make…the world a better place” and was described by a faculty member as "the most exceptional social entrepreneur …during my time”

OAA’s Work & Impact• OAA strives to break the

cycle of HIV/AIDS by ensuring that children orphaned or made vulnerable by the epidemic receive a high-quality education, nutrition, and health care.

• Currently, OAA provides more than 600 youths in Africa and Asia who have been orphaned or made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS with academic scholarships for the duration of their primary and secondary school education.

OAA’s Work & Impact• Orphans Against AIDS partners with local community-

based organizations to:– Provide funding for academic scholarships that cover the cost of

school fees, school uniforms, school supplies, books, a desk and a chair (as needed), transportation to and from school (as needed), a nutritious diet, and health care (e.g., vaccinations, physician check-ups).

– Build partners' capacity, prove their model's effectiveness, help with grant-writing and website development, and make introductions to other leading donor organizations that can help their partners' projects scale.

• Unique among peer organizations, no OAA donations are used for overhead expenses. Instead, the OAA officers cover all of the organization's administrative and travel costs.  As a result, every dollar donated to OAA goes directly toward benefiting the children

Recent History• OAA's Thanda Project was recently voted winner of the 2010

South African Mzanzi Soul Award for Innovation, Ubuntu, and Entrepreneurship.

• In recognition of this and additional accolades, Thanda received an award and donation from Willowton Oil, which honors Thanda's contribution to positive social change in the lives of children affected by HIV/AIDS.
