History • Vital force in the community for over 60 years • Began as a dream of a probation officer, Oscar Cross. Who

saw a need for young men to set higher goals for themselves and prepare for their future.

• He made a commitment to keep them off of the streets, out of the juvenile justice system and to provide educational experiences that were taught outside the traditional classrooms at school.

• As the Club continues to grow year after year identifying opportunities to expand and offer even more programs to youth is still the focus of the Club.

New Media tool effectiveness

• After talking with Allen Treece, the director of Oscar Cross Boys and Girls Club, he seems to think that they go a fairly good job of getting their messages out and keeping followers up to date on the things that are coming up in the near future and the posting pictures of things that have previously happened.

• Tabs on the Facebook site are very helpful and include information about the staff, upcoming events, how to join, and how the public can help.

Addressing Media Problems

• Allen Treece states that in the future he plans to expand the use of social media to hopefully involve more young people.

• He also stated that a lot of the messages are for the older people of the community because the youth members are reminded daily about upcoming events, and that some of the kids don’t have social media.
