Our Craftspeople

In our forest at Stonehurst in southern Vermont we are surrounded by trees. Every day we do our work for the forest, from the forest. We are advocates for trees, we champion sustainably-sourced, beautifully-crafted furniture, designed to honor the tree from which it was built, while restoring our endangered forests with every order.

As the world has come to demand more and more from our trees, we’ve worked hard to dovetail scale with impact by building a coalition for a sustainable furniture future. Vermont is a state that is rich in its traditions and green values. The workshops that we partner with, both large and small, are filled with craftspeople who honor these deep-rooted values. By using techniques handed-down to them through generations of Yankee woodworkers along with innovative sustainable practices, our workshops craft quality, solid wood furniture that you can feel good about.

Our Woods & Finishes

All of the finishes used on our furniture, both lacquer and oil, are carefully selected. Our workshops adhere to high standards of sustainability and indoor air quality. Lyndon Furniture and Copeland Furniture use GREENGUARD certified lacquer finishes while Vermont Furniture Designs and Maple Corner Woodworks use low VOC linseed oil and tung oil finishes. These finishes ensure the best protection of the wood while respecting our high standards of environmental consciousness.

All of the hardwoods that our workshops specialize in are native to our North American forests. These hardwoods are harvested carefully, to maintain healthy woodlands and wildlife habitats.

A piece of furniture is much more than a functional object for a room, it brings a life and charm all its own. At Vermont Woods Studios we pride ourselves on combining the finest selection of hardwoods with our sustainable mission. In doing this we embrace the true natural beauty and soul of the wood itself.

Natural wood is not without its faults but that’s what we love about it. A knot here, a sap mark there, every imperfection enhances the organic allure of the wood.

Join in the actionThrough our environmental initiatives to raise awareness and by providing a sustainable alternative for wood furniture we hope to do our part to help preserve and protect one of our planet’s valuable resources.

In addition to partnering with our craftspeople we proudly partner with nonprofits dedicated to reforesting and preserving our planet’s forests. These organizations include Forests for Monarchs and 1% for the Planet.

In 2016, we began our partnership with Forests for Monarchs. Founded by José Luis Alvarez, Forests for Monarchs works with local communities in the Michoacán region of Mexico to restore and protect natural forests threatened by illegal logging operations. These areas include the mountain top ecosystems that serve as the overwintering habitat of the beloved Monarch Butterfly. Since 1997 they have planted over 9 million trees.

68,000 trees and countingDeforestation is well known as a leading cause of climate change, making it critical to save the forests of our planet. This is why we reject the status quo here at Vermont Woods Studios. For every order placed with us we donate a portion of the proceeds to the planting of new trees both locally and abroad.
