WORDS FROM OUR SHEPHERD

I would like to start this article out by THANK-ING Dr. Thomas and Kathy Higgins for all their volunteer involvement over the years at OLOG. Dr. Thomas recently stepped down as head of Par-ish Pastoral Council and as a member of the Finance Council. He was also the go-to person whenever there was a medical emergency during Mass. Kathy stepped down as the coordina-tor of the Eucharistic Ministers. I wish them well in all their future endeavors. Speaking of volunteers…no parish can survive without having a good number of volunteers. In the years gone by, the church had a number of priests at each parish to handle anything that needed to be done. Now that there are so few priests, the church depends on volunteers in several different areas and ministries. I am sure if you went to almost any parish, they would be looking for more volunteers. I know OLOG could always use more people to volunteer as ushers, eucha-ristic ministers, lectors, altar servers, choir members, PSR instructors and greeters, just to name a few. Vol-unteering at church is one of the many ways to give back to God who has been gracious to us. Maintenance update: The flat roofs have all been replaced. The next step is the replacing of the shin-gles. The sign should be completed in the next four weeks. Thank all of you for allowing me to be your Pas-tor.

Have a Blessed Week!

Fr. Bill

The Youth Choir will begin its weekly rehearsal schedule this fall on September 11th from 5:30-6:30pm! Students in 2nd through 8th grade are invited to join the returning youth choir students for a year for fun,

friendship and most importantly, ministering to the parish in song with the enthusiasm only the youth of our parish can do! Students are encouraged to attend practices on every Wednesday evening, but with so many children busy with sports, extracurricular activities, and homework, arrangements can be made to accommodate everyone’s schedule. The Youth Choir ministers at 11am Mass, on the first Sunday of the month beginning in October and continues though May. Parents and guardians are welcome and encouraged to stay for rehearsals. Youth Choir members have the opportunity to participate in the Annual Christmas Concert which is on Friday, December 13th at 7pm this year, 4pm Christmas Eve Mass, ministering for Youth Stations of the Cross in Lent, First Communion Mass, the May Crowning Service, and for Mother's Day Mass at 11am. The 6th through 8th grade students of the choir also have the opportunity to cantor at the 4pm Mass on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month. WE NEED YOU…the youth of the parish to get involved by singing in the Youth Choir! Don’t like to sing but still want to get involved as a young person in the parish? Consider joining the Youth Reader Ministry or Altar Server Ministry! Questions? Please call Mrs. Mary Gabriel at (330) 636-1739 or just come up and introduce yourself after any weekend Mass.

FAMILY PERSPECTIVES

“Those who humble themselves will be exalted.” Family life confirms the words of Jesus in today’s gospel. Commitment, intimacy, loyalty, and love are the rewards of humble service and care for one another. Pope Francis reminds us, “no family drops down from heaven perfectly formed.”
