I am confident that you will find OLOH to be a very warm, nurturing and positive environment, and we look forward to having you as part of this wonderful community in 2021. THRIVING PEOPLE, CAPABLE LEARNERS, LEADERS FOR THE WORLD GOD DESIRES The staff at Our Lady of Hope returned to school a week before the students returned and spent some time looking at how we can work together to build a strong culture of learning and improvement. As part of this learning we looked very closely at unpacking Catholic Educations Living, Learning and Leading Framework which, at its core, aims to produce children who are Thriving People, Capable Learners and Leaders for the World God Desires”. During the first week of school, teachers introduced this goal and the language of the Living, Learning and Leading framework to our children. I was very impressed with the insights provided by the children in Years 5-7 when I visited the classes and asked them what they felt was meant by the terms thriving people, capable learners and leaders for the world God desires. Some of their responses included: Thriving Person: Someone who has good self esteem; a person who has good relationships; a person who is happy; a person who is comfortable with who they are: someone who strives to be their best; someone who is confident and resilient. Capable Learner: A person who always tries their best at school; a person who takes risks; a person who does not give up when work is hard; someone who strives to complete all of their work; a person who knows when to ask for help; someone who listens to others and learns from others; a person who is open to new and different ways of learning and doing things. Leader for the World God Desires: A person who treats others with respect; a person who listens to others and accepts differences in other people; someone who cares for the environment; a person who treats people how they would like to be treated; someone who contributes to a world that God would want; a person who stands up for what is right; someone who follows in the footsteps of Jesus. Park and over the coming weeks we will be looking to extend this garden and put in a community vegetable patch. This year we have introduced a 1:1 student device program. All children in Reception to Year 2 will have access to their own school supplied iPad which will be kept in the classroom. The children in Years 3-7 will be provided with a school laptop which they can use at school and also at home. During this year we will finalise our School Master Plan and start undertaking planning for further upgrades to classroom and play spaces. MEET THE TEACHER EVENING & PARENT CYBER SAFETY SESSIONS Attached to the back of this newsletter is the Term 1 Calendar, which provides you with an overview of all the important events which are on in Term 1. The first of these is the Parent/Teacher Evening, which is scheduled for this coming Tuesday 9th February. Due to COVID and also time constraints we will not commence this year’s meet the teacher evening with drinks in the Parish Centre. Classrooms will be open from 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm and parents can come in and look around the classroom and take the opportunity to chat with their child’s classroom teacher and ask any questions about the year. Children are also welcome to come along and show their parents around their classroom. At 6.30 pm there will be a parent Cyber Safety Session for parents of children in Years 3-7. This session will be run by Cybersafe Families and will

After speaking with the children, not only was I impressed with the depth of their answers, I also thought to myself, wouldn’t it be great if all of our children could leave Our Lady of Hope with these traits. As a staff we are committed to working with families to make our school a place where all children are “Thriving People, Capable Learners and Leaders for the World God Desires”. If ever as parents you feel that your child is struggling with their learning, relationships or sense of self worth at school, we ask that you come in and speak to us. SCHOOL IMPROVEMENTS Towards the end of last year we completed a number of school improvements. Some of these included, knocking out the wall between Rooms 9 and 10 and developing this into a larger and more contemporary classroom learning space. We also re-developed the Parish Centre Kitchen and developed this into a new space for classes and our Hope Grows group to do cooking. We worked with Greenwith Primary to develop a new secure bike and scooter storage area near the library for children to store their bikes and scooters during the school day. We also spent some considerable time re-thinking our classroom furniture and purchased new furniture for all of our 11 classrooms. Whilst most of this furniture has arrived there have been a few delays and we are expecting the remainder of our furniture to arrive in the coming weeks. During the School Holidays we also extended the rock retaining walls down near the entrance by the Community Centre Car

be held in the Parish Centre. This session will focus on supporting parents with developing a safe online environment at home. At the end of the session the parents will be able to collect their child’s laptop. Please note that some of the content covered in this session is not suitable for children and therefore children can not be present at the session. The school will offer a child minding service for parents who may require this on 9th February. This Cyber Safety Session will also be offered on Monday 8th February at 9.15 am for parents who are able and would prefer to attend at this time. A letter was sent home to all Year 3-7 students last Thursday. Parents are required to return this form so we know how many people we are expecting at each session and also how many children may be requiring care on the evening of the 9th. SCHOOL COMMUNICATION IN 2021 School communication in 2021 will occur predominantly through the Seesaw app. Hard copies of some notices will be sent home as well. I encourage all parents to download the app if you have not done so as it will be an important communication device between the home and school. Please contact your child’s class teacher or the front office if you need any support with the Seesaw app. I look forward to continuing to work in partnership with all families in order to provide a happy, safe and successful learning environment for all of our students in 2021.

God bless,

Ashley Keane

2021 School Fees Welcome to the 2021 School Year. The School Board met and approved the School Fees for 2021 at their meeting in October 2020. As previously notified in 2020, we are pleased that fees have been reduced for 2021. School fees are used to supplement the income of Catholic Schools as we receive less funding than Government Schools. Fees pay for books, stationery, excursions, computing hardware and software, maintenance, insurance, capital development and utilities costs. What is covered by fees? The cost of the 2021 school fees will cover all of the following for your child: Tuition, Text Books, Stationery, Excursions, Swimming Program and a 1:1 school provided student device (either iPad or Laptop), including all operating and learning software. Has your address changed? Invoices for the full year of school fees and levies will be mailed home to each family this week. If you have moved during the holidays and have not updated your mailing address, please advise the Front Office as soon as possible so that invoices will reach you. What are my payment options? A letter outlining payment options and other information about school fees will accompany the first statement, please take some time to read this as it should answer most questions that you will have about school fees. How to I qualify for the low-income rate? Fees are charged at two rates with a significant discount available to families on lower incomes. To qualify for the lower income rate please make an application for School Card and once this is approved the appropriate remission will be applied to your fees. Please remember that School Card applications must be made each year. Application for School Card can by made online by visiting the link below: https://www.education.sa.gov.au/doc/school-card-application-form-income-audit-ed003a or by collecting the School Card application form front the Front Office. Is there a discount if I pay my fees in full at the beginning of the year? An early payment discount of 5% is offered to families who pay fees in full by Friday 5th March. Please remember to deduct this discount if you are making a payment online. For the discounted payment due, please refer to the letter accompanying fees. I’m struggling to pay my fees – what should I do? At Our Lady of Hope we are committed to ensuring that an inability to pay fees should not be a barrier to your child receiving a Catholic education if that is your preference. If you are struggling to pay fees please contact me for a confidential conversation about your circumstances. We are here to help. Kind regards, Charmaine Gillard, School Bursar Email: [email protected]

Enrolments at OLOH To all current families; if you have a young child due to start school in 2021, 2022 or 2023, please ensure that you have lodged an Enrolment Application (you would have received correspondence from the school if you have lodged paperwork). Enrolment applications can be obtained from the front office or via our school website:- OLOH Enrolments If you are not sure please email us at [email protected] and we will check our enrolment records.

School Absentee Notification If your child or children are going to be away for any reason (i.e. illness, family/social, medical/dental appointment, car trouble, running late etc.) we ask that parents please contact the Front Office either via email [email protected] or if this is not possible by phone on 8289 8344. Further to previous advice, please DO NOT contact your child’s teacher regarding an absentee message. All other communication with your child’s classroom teacher can be done through the Seesaw App.

Canteen Qkr is up and running and ready to take your child's lunch orders. We have had to increase the price of some items to reflect the increase in cost from the supplier. Unfortunately, this is unavoidable, and we strive to keep costs as low as possible to ensure affordable, nutritious options for the kids. All Qkr App orders need to be submitted by 8.30 am. There are two menus: a Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday option and a Thursday/Friday option (links below). Please remember that you can order in advance and on recurring days. This will be particularly helpful with the much earlier cut off time. For parents of returning students, please remember to update your child’s classroom number.

As always, volunteers are welcome and if you have a spare hour or more, give me a call on 8289 8448. Current school volunteer requirements are necessary.
