A Note From The Pastor… In last week’s column, I wrote about the LED Ligh"ng in the
Church, and was seeking feedback due to the cost of changing the
Bulbs from 5,000K LED to 2,700K LED. I received a fair amount of
feedback, and people were split about 50/50. However, I am
grateful to Loren Congdon, owner of Congdon Funeral Home,
who read my column last week. He generously approached me
and told me that he would pay for the cost to change the ligh"ng
to 2,700K LED as that is the appropriate ligh"ng for a Church (and
for his Funeral Home). I am so grateful to Loren for his
generosity.
Recently someone approached me with the idea of having a
“community wedding.” A “community wedding” is a wedding
where more than one couple present themselves in Church to
receive the Sacrament of Marriage. There are several reasons
why a couple would want to par"cipate. Some"mes they are for
financial reasons, like the cost of a wedding, and the recep"on
can be very expensive. Other "mes a couple have lived together, and decide that now they would
like to get married. And then, other "mes, a couple may be married civilly, and now want their
marriage to be “regularized” (i.e., recognized by the Church, and receive the Sacrament). Couples
should be “free” to get married. In other words, no one needs an annulment because of an
earlier marriage. Therefore, if there are couples living together, or couples married civilly, but not
sacramentally, and wish to par"cipate, please contact the Office and leave a message for Minnie
Rakher. This message appears immediately below in Spanish.
Please refer later in this bulle"n to an announcement regarding next week’s in-pew Annual
Catholic Appeal.
God Bless,
Fr. Paul

Soup Kitchen Do something helpful this New Year. Thursday,
February 23rd, is Our Lady of Humility’s commitment
to provide volunteers to help with the Soup Kitchen
at Holy Family Services (the old St. Bartholomew Parish) located at:
914 8th Street, Waukegan.
It is always the fourth Thursday of every month. Food prepara"on
begins at 3PM, dinner is served at 5:30PM, followed by clean-up. We are
usually done by 7PM. Any "me that you can give is greatly appreciated.
If you have any ques"ons, please call Pat at (847) 662-4095.
Eucharis!c Adora!on – “Could You Not Watch One Hour With Me?” Jesus waits for us in the Blessed Sacrament. He waits for our li#le acts of faith,
adora"on, love, thanksgiving, repentance, repara"on, and charity that we can offer
Him as we contemplate – His Divine Majesty – in the Blessed Sacrament.
St. Alphonsus Liguori wrote: “Of all devo!ons, that of adoring Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament
is the greatest a$er the Sacraments, the one dearest to God, and the one most helpful to us.”
The Eucharist is a priceless treasure: By not only celebra!ng the Eucharist, but also by praying
before it outside of Mass, we are enabled to make contact with the very wellsprings of Grace…”
Pope John Paul II in one of his homilies said, “It is pleasant to spend !me with Him, to lie close to His breast
like the Beloved Disciple (cf. Jn 13:25), and to feel the infinite love present in His heart… If, in our !me, Chris!ans
must be dis!nguished by the “art of prayer”, how can we not feel a renewed need to spend !me in spiritual
conversa!on, in silent adora!on, in hear&elt love before Christ present in the Most Holy Sacrament?”
Do something meaningful during this upcoming Lent, please consider coming to Eucharis"c Adora"on on
Thursdays at 1PM. Come, bring your whole family, spend some "me with the Lord, and receive His blessings! He
is wai"ng for you!
6 Welcome to Our Lady of Humility Catholic Church
Why Are Some RCIA Par"cipants Dismissed In The Middle Of The Mass? Each Sunday, at the 9AM Mass, those adults preparing to be bap"zed into the Catholic
Church, and those candidates preparing for recep"on into the Catholic Church, are
dismissed at the end of the Liturgy of the Word. This will con"nue each Sunday un"l Easter
when, at the Easter Vigil, those who are ready, will join us at the Table of the Eucharist for
the first "me.
The Parish is not sending them out because they are somehow “unworthy” to stay for the Liturgy of the
Eucharist. Though they cannot yet come to the Table of the Eucharist, Mother Church s"ll has an obliga"on to
feed those who have entered a rela"onship with her through the Rite of Acceptance, which was celebrated in
our Parish this past October.
God’s Word is their only food during this period. Instead, the par"cipants depart from the Mass with one or
more RCIA Team Members, to discuss the Mass readings for that Sunday, and to experience more fully the
impact of the Scriptures in their lives. This "me is known as “Reflec!on on The Word.” “All Scripture is inspired
by God, and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correc!on, and for training in righteousness, that the one who
belongs to God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” (–2 Timothy 3:16-17)
2017 Annual Catholic Appeal — “Love Your Neighbor As Yourself”
Please spend some "me this week reflec"ng on the Annual Catholic Appeal Brochure that
you received with your bulle"n. Please remember that the Annual Catholic Appeal is much
different than a one-"me Special Collec"on. It is a Pledge Campaign where you can make a gi<
payable in installments.
The ACA theme, “Love Your Neighbor As Yourself,” was selected to remind us that our
contribu"ons to the Annual Catholic Appeal enable the funded ministries and services to share
God’s love with many others in our Parish, our Archdiocese, and throughout the world.
Each pledge makes a difference because all Parishes par"cipate in the Campaign, and the gi<s of many enable
our Archdiocese to deliver needed ministries and services.
A<er our Parish Goal of $33,225.00 is reached in Cash, 100% of any addi"onal funds come back to our Parish
to help to fund our needs.
If you received your Pledge Form in the mail, please complete it and mail it back, or bring it to Mass next
weekend. For those of you that did not receive a mailing, or have not had "me to respond to it, we will conduct
our in-pew pledge process at all of the Masses next weekend.
Thank you for your prayerful considera"on, and generous response.
