Our Lady's "Peace Plan from Heaven"

Why does Our Lady love the Rosary so much? Because She wants to bring everyone to her Son! That's the point of the Rosary. Deeply rooted in Scripture, the Rosary

involves meditation on the mysteries of Christ's life, Death, and Resurrection. The "Hail Mary's" are background music as we focus on the mysteries of the Rosaries.

"WHAT CAN I DO?"

1. Say the Rosary every day. Join one of the Rosary prayer groups. Group Rosaries are said: 1) Mon.-Thru. after 9:00 Mass, and 5:30pm - in church. 2) Fri. & Sat. after 9:00 Mass & Fri. 5pm - in the chapel. 3) Sunday 3:00 pm. in church. Pamphlets and Rosaries will be available at all the entrances. A box for requests of mate-rials will be at the side entrance. 2. Offer up your daily tasks as a sacrifice in reparation for your sins and sins of oth-ers. By reparation, Our Lady means: 1) offering sacrifice to atone for our sins, 2) fulfilling our daily duties to the best of our abilities, 3) accepting the responsibilities of our state in life, 4) obeying the Commandments of God.

REST IN THE LORD For several weeks we have listened to readings that have recounted just how arduous the work of prophets and disciples can be. In today's Gospel, the Lord Jesus lis-tens to the reports of those he had sent out "two by two" to minister to the people. After the apostles reported what they had done, Je-sus, recognizing their fatigue, says, "Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest awhile" (Mark 6:31). Perhaps this is what the Lord is telling his disciples in the year 2018 as well. We need to pause on our jour-ney of discipleship and simply rest in the Lord. Sunday Mass provides many opportu-nities for quiet times, particularly during the periods of silence following the readings. Why not take the time today to allow the sav-ing word of the Lord to penetrate your heart during those silent times? Ask the Lord to re-new you in body, mind, and spirit for the ar-duous work of discipleship.

Dear Friends, This is my first letter to you since I returned home from my six-month Sabbatical. As much as I loved living in Rome and Jerusalem, as Dorothy says in “The Wizard of Oz”: “There’s no place like home!” Within a day of my return, two parishioners approached me and said that they heard I wasn’t coming back to OLL. Another parishioner told me that she heard I had returned early from my Sabbatical and was living in San Francisco. Where do people get this from? I’m not angry, but I am sad when I hear stuff like this. Why is there so much gossip surrounding my Sabbatical? I pray especially hard for those who feel the need to gossip.

On a happier note, isn’t our new, Our Lady of Loretto statue in front of the church beau-tiful? We will be having a special Dedication Mass and Blessing some time in Fall. I will keep you posted. Welcome Father Erick! I am so happy to have a full-time associate who speaks Spanish. I know the entire OLL Community is happy to have you. I look forward to working with you in helping to build up the best parish in this Archdiocese. I also want to welcome Father Tom for another Summer here at OLL. Father Tom and I were in St. Patrick’s College Seminary over 40 years ago. Father Tom will be here during the month of July. I’m writing this letter on July 16th. Hard to believe that exactly a month from today, OLL School starts. What happened to summer vacation? Remember the days when the first day of school was always the day after Labor Day? We will never see those days again. All Altar Servers are invited to go to the Water Slides in Concord on Thursday, July 26th. If you haven’t heard the news, please contact Erin in the rectory. Good luck to the 36 students and chaperones who will be leaving this week for the Steubenville Conference in San Diego. This is our largest group ever! I’ve been to 2 of these conferences and they have been amazing. I know you will have a great experience. Our prayers go with you! Thanks for the tremendous response to Father Jess Owens Mission Appeal Talk last Sun-day. The 2nd Collection was almost as big as the 1st. You are a good and generous people! That’s about it. Even during the Summer, a lot of things are going on. I am so happy to be home!

Have a great Summer week! Father Brian

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION The American Rev-olution cleared the way for freedom of religion in the for-mer colonies, since the colonies had always been a more religiously tolerant place than the old country. Even so, colonial laws restricted the practice of the Catho-lic faith, and just as in England, Americans who de-sired to be priests or nuns had to go to the Nether-lands or France. As political storm clouds gathered in France, an American woman, Mother Bernardina Matthews, the prioress of the Hoogstraeten Carmel in Holland, made a brave move. With two other American nuns, her nieces, and a Dutch sister, she came to Port Tobacco, Maryland, in 1790. Within twenty years the community had grown to twenty, although by 1823 their farm failed and they had to move to Baltimore and open a school. The Carmelite order requires contemplation and cloister, so in time the school was closed. The Port Tobacco land had long since been sold, but in 1976 a community of nuns was able to return thanks to loyal neighbors who had worked for forty years for their restoration. Today, our original American convent is fully alive in prayer, hard work, and strong community. --Rev. James Field,

Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
