THANK YOU & GOOD BYE I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs. Charette for all her hard work in the office and making it a warm, welcoming place for staff, students and parents. She has been my partner in the office for over 6 years and I will dearly miss her as will the staff. I wish her well as she pursues other career opportunities within the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School board and as she takes on the role of head secretary at St. Jacinta Marto Elementary school.
CLASS PLACEMENTS FOR 2018-2019 Planning for next September is well under way. Current grade level teachers, Resource staff and the administration will soon begin the process of developing tentative classroom placements. We spend much time taking into consideration not only the needs of the individual child but the needs of all children in the context of the larger classroom group. In each class we strive to balance learning styles, gender, learning needs and a cross section of abilities and behavioral needs. Please note that Ministry regulations of class size will impose flexibility in class configurations. As you know your child best, we appreciate your input concerning the learning style and environment in which your child learns best. If you feel that there are specific needs which should be addressed in determining the placement of your child, please send Mrs. Nichols a letter outlining the strengths and needs of your child along with a description of his/her learning style and type of environment he/she excels in, no later than May 3, 2018. We remind you that it is not appropriate now or in September to request a specific teacher as staffing is tentative and things are continually changing or to make requests to avoid necessary combined grades. We will consider your input as well as input from the classroom and resource teachers and if we can accommodate your wishes, we will do so. However, this is not always possible. Rest assured, our decisions are made only after careful consideration of all the information and are based on the individual good of each child balanced with the common good of the entire school community.
SCHOOL COUNCIL Our next School Council meeting will be on Monday, April 23 beginning at 7:00 pm in the school library. We will be listening to a CCCSC Webinar followed by our regular agenda. All parents are welcome to attend! CATHOLIC EDUCATION WEEK This year’s Catholic Education Week theme is “Renewing the Promise.”
The theme for CEW 2018 draws upon previous documents on Ontario Catholic education, namely, “This Moment
of Promise” (1989), “Fulfilling the Promise” (1993) and “Our Catholic Schools” (2006-2007). These three
documents, while several years apart from each other, all speak of the unique mission of Ontario Catholic
education, the importance of its shared leadership by all those involved in Catholic education and the critical role
of Catholic education in contemporary society. Catholic Education Week 2018 combines the themes of
reconciliation, solidarity, love, justice and ecology.
There are five sub-themes for each day of Catholic Education Week:
Day 1: Remembering the Promise
Faire mémoire de la promesse
Day 2: The Promise is Within You
La promesse est en toi
Day 3: Praying the Promise
Prier la promesse
Day 4: Living the Promise
Vivre la promesse
Day 5: Proclaiming the Promise
Annoncer la promesse
Every year, the Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association (OCSTA) provides our Catholic schools with a
resource kit to help schools prepare for Catholic Education Week. Using these resources as well as our own
