Retreat in Daily Life(RIDL)

A 30-week retreat experience,lived in daily life,

based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius; an invitationto ‘know Jesus more intimately, to love Him more intenselyand follow Him more closely’; is being offered this fall atOur Lady of Holy Souls. See brochure in back of church.

He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiahwas handed to him. Luke 4:16

Luke, more than any of the other Gospel writers, emphasizes the concern Jesus had for the poor andmarginalized. His message speaks to us today if we butlisten, if we but look. We need to ask ourselves, if we claimto be Christ’s followers, do we bring good news to the poorby doing something as simple as bringing food to churchon “sharing Sunday?” Who do we know that is imprisonedby poor health? Do we visit them, give them a call or senda card? Do we help others see, even if it is a new way oflooking at a problem? Do we set people free from oppression, perhaps by writing our representatives about our concern? These kinds of questions are not meant to disparage orcreate guilt, but rather to serve as a litmus test for us inregard to what Jesus asks of us. The psalmist reminds us,“Give to the Lord, you families of nations... (Psalm 96:7).By giving and doing for others, “we give to the Lord.”

An excerpt from Living Faith

God calls us all to serve, no matter who we are, no matterhow important we think we are or how insignificant we thinkwe are. God calls us all to serve him and those around us.There is no discrimination in God’s calling, he calls eachand everyone of us to carry on the work of Jesus. Whetheror not we choose to do so, is up to us. All of us can servethe Lord, all of us can do something that will make adifference. It is up to us to answer the call. It is up to uswho or what we serve.
