18 th February 2020 Week 6 Term 1 Acting Principal’s Report We hope you can come along! This Wednesday our first Principal’s Morning Tea is being held in the library from 9am. It is a great chance to have a chat and find out about some events that are planned for our school this year. Our Student Representative Council (SRC) will be presenting their ideas with help from Miss Tucci, who is leading the team this year. We would love to have our community support this team of students, so if you are available please come along – the more the merrier! Goodbye Mrs Harris Last Friday was a sad day for our school as we said goodbye to our lovely Mrs Harris. She has worked at John Warby for an amazing 28 years and has always been the person that our students, staff and parents could turn to for support and assistance. Mrs Harris needs to have some time away from work to undergo an operation and our very best wishes are with her and her family during this time. She has let me know that her plans after she recovers are to possibly retire, which would mean that she will not be returning to our school. As I spoke to the students about the impact she has had at our school we realised that everything that we have - from uniforms, classroom resources, sporting equipment, breakfast club, laptops (the list could go on forever!) to improvements in our playground, gardens and classrooms are all due to the work of Mrs Harris. We can never thank her enough for all that she has done for our school and I am sure everyone will join with me in hoping all goes well and she visits us again soon. While Mrs Harris is on leave we are very fortunate to have Mrs Kennedy taking on our School Administration Manager position. She is learning all about our school and will be running our office area for the remainder of this term. Please feel free to pop in and say hello. 18th February 2020 Week 6 Term 1 Acting Principal’s Report

We hope you can come along!

Goodbye Mrs Harris

Last Friday was a sad day for our school as we said goodbye to our lovely Mrs Harris.

Wonderful Learning It is always so great to have students come and show me their work throughout the day - sometimes it gets very busy and I don’t always get a chance to get into classrooms. I often see students in different situations and they are always so proud to explain to me what they are doing and what they are learning. These girls are no different – I met them on the way to the library and they were very excited to tell me all about their maths lesson. Keep up the great work girls! Support for our students We are very fortunate to have partnerships with companies that support our school and our students. Last week our school received a large number of stationary packs from the company ‘Got a Pen?’ This lets our students have access to supplies if they are needed and makes sure that everyone has the necessary equipment to fully participate in learning. All of the stationary packs have been donated to our school and I would like to thank Natalie Panzarino who is the founder of ‘Got a Pen?’ for these great resources. Up to Date Contact Details A number of families have moved or had phone numbers change over the holiday period. If this applies to your family, please update any new or changed information (e.g. phone numbers, emergency contact names and addresses) at the office. Whole School Assembly Our next whole school assembly will be held this Wednesday 4th March, beginning at 2.10pm. This will be an assembly led by Jurassic World. We warmly invite parents and carers to come along for this special occasion. On a final note... ‘Play gives children a chance to practice what they are learning’ – Mr Rogers Thank you for your support of our school. Mellissa Page Acting Principal

School Uniform It has been wonderful to witness the high standards of school uniform at our school. Many thanks to our parents/carers for their support in ensuring our students come to school each day in the correct school uniform - it not only looks wonderful but promotes pride in appearance and in being part of our school. If parents need financial assistance with purchasing a school uniform for their child/children, please contact the school office. Just a reminder that all students must have a JWPS school hat – these are available to purchase at the office. We are a ‘Nut Aware’ School We currently have students enrolled at our school who are allergic to peanuts and nut products (peanut butter, nutella, hazelnuts etc). Please help us to keep all our students safe by ensuring your child does not bring food containing any nuts to school. Your support with this helps to minimise the risk of a student having a potentially life threatening reaction. Please speak with your child’s classroom teacher if you have any questions. Preschool News – Fern Gully with Miss Woods and Mrs Yu It has been an amazing start to preschool this year. The children in the Fern Gully room have all settled in well and have started to make friends. Forming relationships with peers and the educators at the beginning of the year is very important to help children to feel safe and secure while they are at preschool and to develop a sense of belonging. The children have been participating in many play experiences that help encourage these relationships and it has been exciting to watch these friendships blossom. We are looking forward to exploring many interests that the children have brought with them from outside of school such as ocean animals, cooking, transport, space and dancing!

Parents and Carers,

Firstly a big welcome back to a new school year at John Warby PS. As our first event of the year we are gathering Easter Eggs for our annual Easter raffle. During the week 09/03/2020-13/03/2020 we will be running our ‘Eggcellence Week’. Each student is asked to bring in an Easter egg to donate to the raffle. Classes will be collecting Easter eggs and the infants and primary class who bring in the most eggs will receive a special prize from the P&C. Points will be assigned for different eggs, they will be collected in a basket every morning and the points added up. The final points will be averaged out for each class - the class with the highest eggs/student will be the winning class and will receive a class prize.
