Message from Brother Josh Robertson Purpose…what does the word mean?
Purpose refers to the aim or intention of something. Why some-
thing exists, why it is the way it is.
The intent of a mini-van is to load up the family and ride in com-
fort…thus explaining why it does not do well to make one look or
feel extra cool. The intent of a sports car is to zip around in a tiny
space, making the driver feel or look extra cool…thus explaining
why you see no one with a kid in a car seat driving one. As you
drive a mini-van or a sports car according to their purpose, you
find both will perform quite well.
Many professing faith in Christ find themselves frustrated with the
lack in performance of their faith. It is awkward and constraining,
never seeming as powerful as the one who sold them on it made it
sound. The problem may not be the content of our faith, but the
purpose in which we utilize it.
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon
you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea
and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8
Jesus, sending His disciples into the world, gives us all a great un-
derstanding of purpose and power.
What is the purpose with which Jesus formed these disciples and
sent them out? To be a witness.
Had these men gone out with a different aim or intention than
this, would they have seen the power Jesus spoke of in the Spirit?
No.
It never ceases to amaze me…when my life aligns with the inten-
tion Jesus had in mind when giving me the Holy Spirit, power is
made known. When my life is used for any other purpose, I am
weak.
Conclusion: POWER is revealed in PURPOSE.
Want to know the power of the Spirit of God? Pray for the oppor-
tunities to be a witness…to operate according to your purpose.
Please pray for the participants of the CityReach ministry this
week as we are a witness to the city of Conway…we anticipate His
POWER as we walk in this PURPOSE.
