PARKLIFE PODThe circus comes to town with a collection of newly commissioned caravans and trucks modified to enable acrobatics stunts, aerial spectacle and trampoline mayhem.

World class aerial and acrobatic skills are not enough for our international team of circus artists. Now they want to invent new Olympic games and challenge themselves with new world records.

In Parklife Pod they seek inspiration from the general public through a daily programme of taster workshops, guerrilla happenings and high skill performances. Families, individuals, local arts and sports groups and aspiring circus performers are invited to join our training, show off their talents, learn new circus skills, give some top tips or just sit back and enjoy as the spectacle unfolds. Infused with Nofit State’s signature exuberance, energy and theatrical chaos and accompanied by our unique circus band, this mini residency will be a weekend to remember. A great way to bring people together who would never normally meet, celebrate outdoors what usually happens behind closed doors and activate public space as never before. Parklife is suitable for town squares, parks and festivals.

PARKLIFE PODLe cirque arrive en ville et à sa suite, une ribambelle de camions et caravanes qui posent le décor d’acrobaties décoiffantes, de prouesses aériennes et de trampoline étourdissant.

Acrobatie et voltige de top niveau ne suffisent plus à nos artistes, ils ont décidé d’inventer de nouvelles disciplines olympiques et se donner de nouveaux records à atteindre. S’inspirant du public, nos joyeux artistes proposent un programme quotidien d’ateliers d’initiation, de « guérilla happenings », et spectacles à couper le souffle. Familles, habitants, artistes du coin et circassiens en devenir sont invités à rejoindre nos entrainements, venir nous montrer leurs talents, s’essayer à de nouvelles disciplines de cirque, donner leur avis ou s’installer confortablement et devenir uniques témoins du spectacle qui s’invente sous leurs yeux.

Débordant de l’esprit exhubérant de NoFit State, de son énergie et son chaos théâtral, ces mini-résidences sont un week-end inoubliable, mis en musique par notre orchestre. Une opportunité rare de faire se croiser les chemins, rencontrer son voisin, célébrer en extérieur et au vu de tous des activités qui se déroulent habituellement en cercles fermés. Idéal pour les places publiques, parcs et festivals.

NoFit StateNoFit State was founded in 1986 by five friends. During a politically charged time, in a recession, and as a creative reaction to the world around them, the circus was born.

Twenty-five years later NoFit State still believes that the total outweighs the sum of the parts. The company lives together, works together, eats together, laughs and cries together – travelling in trucks, trailers and caravans and loving and breathing as one community. This is what creates the spirit that is NoFit State and gives the work its heart and soul.

Contemporary circus combines live music, dance, stage design, text, and film with traditional circus skills. It is rooted in the travelling community who turn up, pitch a tent, drum up an audience, and then leave with only flattened grass and a memory to show they were ever there. The circus are the strangers who live amongst us – and if we run away to join them we are throwing off our inhibitions, our conventions, the rules of settled society. We are taking to the road knowing that there is no destination - only a journey.

Today, NoFit State is the UK’s leading large-scale contemporary circus company, producing professional touring productions and a wide variety of community, training, and education projects for people of all ages.

Their professional tented touring shows have visited 15 different countries, played to audiences of over 250,000 and have won numerous prestigious international arts awards including, for ‘Immortal’, Best Show of Tarrega Festival 2006 and, for ‘Tabù’, Total Theatre Award at Edinburgh International Festival 2010.

NoFit StateNoFit State a été créé en 1986 par 5 amis, au cours d’une période politiquement difficile. En réaction à la récession et au monde qui les entouraient, le cirque était né.

Vingt-cinq ans plus tard, l’esprit de partage et l’envie de créer ensemble continue de faire vibrer la compagnie, qui voyage en camion et caravnes, partageant chaque instant de la vie de tournée. C’est cet esprit de communauté que l’on retrouve dans les créations de NoFit State et qui leur donnent leur force.

Leur cirque contemporain est un mélange de musique live, danse, scénographie, texte, vidéo, et disciplines traditionnelles des arts du cirque. Par essence-même voyageurs itinérants, arrivant sur un lieux, montant un chapiteau, faisant tourner les têtes d’un public toujours différent et laissant derrière eux pour seules traces des pelouses aplaties, comme mémoire de leur passage. Le cirque est ces étrangers qui vivent parmis nous. Rejoindre le cirque c’est aussi un petit peu se débarrasser de nos inhibitions, nos conventions, des règles imposées par la société. C’est prendre la route en sachant qu’il n’y a pas de destination, simplement un voyage.

Aujourd’hui, NoFit State est devenue la plus large compagnie de cirque contemporain en Grande-Bretagne, jouant ses spectacles aux quatre coins du monde mais s’impliquant également dans un travail de territoire en proposant projets et formations pour tous les âges et tous les niveaux.

Leurs créations sous chapiteau ont tourné dans 15 pays différents, ont été jouées devant plus de 250,000 spectateurs et primées lors de cérémonies de renommée internationale: Meilleur Spectacle à Firrà Tarregà 2006 pour Immortal et Total Theatre Award pour Tabù au Festival Fringe D’Edimbourg 2010.

Barricade is a show created for the European Zone of Artistic Projects (ZEPA), a European network promoting the development of street-arts, supported by the European programme for cross-border cooperation INTERREG IV A France (Channel) England. The nine ZEPA partners, Barricade co-commissioners, are Pôle National Cirque et Arts de la Rue (Amiens), Atelier 231 (Sotteville-lès-Rouen), Culture Commune (Bassin Minier du Pas-de-Calais), Le Fourneau (Brest), Zap Art (Brighton), Southampton City Council, SeaChange Arts (Great Yarmouth), Hat Fair (Winchester) and Brighton Festival.
