COUNTY BUDGET & TAXES Paul thinks our County Commissioners should manage the budget better to fund the most important services and cut wasteful spending INSTEAD of raising your taxes. Paul hates taxes. Paul pays attention to details, including budget details. He is frugal with his own spending and will be efficient with the county budget and county spending. TERM LIMITS Few people want the same politician in the same political office for 30 years. Local people asked Paul to run because his opponent is a liberal who has been in office for 24 years and is now trying to make it a 30 year career. Paul has fresh, new ideas and energy, great experience, and no ties to the same old system. He also works very well with our state legislature and President Trump’s administration. WILDFIRE & SMOKE PREVENTION The amount of land that is burning every year, the smoke these fires emit, and the damage to our health, safety, economy, and environment are unacceptable. Restoring active timber management won’t prevent all fires, but it can improve the health of our forest and reduce the size, intensity, and cost of fires. Paul’s background in natural resource sciences, and his knowledge of the political barriers that prevent proper forest management, will greatly help with implementation of policies that reduce fires and smoke. County Commissioners can have a strong influence to reduce wildfire threats, increase timber harvest, and improve forest health if they make it a priority. Paul will. JOBS & ECONOMY Paul supports free markets, limited government, and the Republican tax cuts and regulatory reforms that have begun to turn our economy around. He is actively working with President Trump’s administration to strengthen our economy, modernize the Endangered Species Act, and eliminate junk science to aid in responsible logging, mining, farming and ranching nationwide. Paul believes access to public lands and responsible use of natural resources are vital for jobs, environmental stewardship, recreation, and supporting of our families. Paul has successfully worked with sportsmen, landowners, and legislators to protect hunting, fishing, trapping, and property rights for all Montanans. HUNTING, FISHING, & WILDLIFE CONSERVATION Paul is a retired wildlife biologist and sportsman who respects private property rights, effective wildlife management, & wildlife damage control. He wrote legislation to protect the right to hunt, fish, and trap in Montana, and he protected our local sport fishery by pressuring FWP to stop Walleye eradication programs in Noxon Reservoir. He also provided the scientific justification to extend the spring bear hunting season to reduce predation on elk calves and deer fawns. ACCESS & USE OF PUBLIC LANDS Too many roads & trails have been gated, closed, and obliterated on our public lands. Paul wants to fix that. Access to our public lands is vital. Paul is committed to improving access & use for all Montanans, and he is capable of making science based arguments against the bad science and misguided policies that are shutting down roads, trails, and logging on federal lands. As a Commissioner he will be able to do more to stop future closures and get more roads open. This will benefit firewood cutters, hunters, anglers, berry pickers, fire fighters, search & rescue, recreationists, industry, workers, and local businesses. ROADS & PUBLIC SAFETY Paved roads need to be fixed right so we don’t keep “patching the patches” and regular grading and dust control should be better prioritized on gravel roads. Our road crews need the resources to do the job right. They also need the schedule flexibility and equipment to keep our roads safe during winter driving conditions. The Commission should also work better with our Sherriff to stop crime. Maintaining roads and providing support for proper crime control are essential county functions in need of improvement.
