A 65,000 play area in Handbridge has

    been ofcially opened.

The development in Allington Place was

funded by a grant from WREN, a not

for prot business that awards grants tocommunity projects from funds donated

by Waste Recycling Group (WRG) to the

Landll Communities Fund. The play area

is a Government Play Capital initiative and

    received contributions from Handbridge

    Community Association and from local

    Councillors member budgets.

    Councillor Stuart Parer, Executive

Member for Culture and Recreation, said:

The play area is being enjoyed by childrenand young people living in the area.

It has been designed as a natural play

area and where possible uses natural

materials. All types of play are catered

for. There is a basket swing, embankment

slide, a natural stone and timber trail and a

ball area. Bark and sand have been used

throughout and new footpaths have been

    created.

Richard Smith, Grants Manger for WREN,

said: Over 11 years ago, WRENs rst play

area in Cheshire was completed at PrentonPlace, not that far from Allington Place and

a scheme that made a real difference to

    Handbridge.

Im delighted we have been able to provide

funding for further play improvements, this

time at Allington Place, and am sure that the

community will use and enjoy the site for

    many years to come.

    Added Handbridge Par Councillor Razia

Daniels: I am absolutely delighted to seethis wonderful project completed. I was

very impressed to see the enthusiasm and

contribution of the children to the design of

this project. I would like to thank everyone

involved who worked very hard to make this

    such a success.

Time s runnng out to gt yourslf

n tp top shap for ths sur,

so w nd to act fast but orportantly act fast and act n th

    corrct way.

There is no point in panic dieting

and seeing results on the scales but

not actually looking or eeling any

better. Any weight loss as a result o

crash dieting is likely to be as a result

o dehydration (we get a lot o water

rom what we eat) and muscle wast-

age. When we crash diet, our bodies

go into starvation mode, our bodieshave not developed that signicantly

since our times as cavemen, so when

we vastly reduce our quantity our

    bodies panic. Assuming that we

are still living in caves and wear-

ing little but a loin cloth, the body

begins to worry where the next ood

is going to come rom and hence

actually holds on to our at. It is that

at which is going to help us survive,

so ironically we dont burn it andinstead begin to break down muscle,

but it is muscle which actually helps

us burn at so with less muscle we

burn less at. So put simply DONT

    CRASH DIET!!!!

S wt t ?We need a mixture o the correct ex-

    ercise and good nutrition, combine

the two and you are well on the way

to looking better on the beach this

    summer. We need to

    up our protein intake,

reduce our processedood and sugar intake

    and do short, sharp, high

    intensity exercise.

    T xris:Do 3x15 repetitions o body

    weight squats. Hold the arms

out in ront and squat so that

the bum is lower than the knees,

then stand upright. Keep the pace

high, but make sure you keep goodorm.

Do 3x30 sec holds o the plank.

Do one set o squats ollowed by

one set o the plank until you have

done each exercise three times. I

you are not amiliar with the exercis-

es, have a look on the internet where

you will nd plenty o examples.

T Nutritin:Get breakast right, ditch the cereal

and instead try two hard boiled eggs

and hal a avocado served on two

pieces o rye bread, all washed down

with a cup o green tea.

    Remember nothing worth having

comes easy, so be prepared to try

new things and open your mind and

you will get results. Good luck!!

ACNE IN HE SUMMERI HAvE recently been enjoying theteleision programme Te Human

Body and was fascinated during the lastprogramme when they showed in graphicdetail how the body repairs itself after aninjury to the skin.

Later in the programme competitors wereshown taking part in a marathon in Death Val-ley in Colorado, United States, where daytimetemperatures soar to 40 degrees centigrade andhigher and how the greatest risk or competitors

was chronic dehydration. Our amazing bodies

have a way o combating this problem. Whenthe body is exposed to heat the sebaceous glandsin the skin produce large amounts o sebum oroil that coat the skin, thus helping to keep themoisture in! How clever.

Tere is sadly a down side to this phenom-enon. I you sufer rom acne or acne rosacea,

where you already have a surplus o oil, summertemperatures can increase your oil or sebumproduction by up to 80%! Many acne suferershave said to me how much better their condi-

Never ght an inanimate object - P. J. ORourke

    QUEENS PARK HIGH SCHOOL NEWS

QUeeNS Park High School is clbrating

tanothr good rport from a tam ld by

    on of Hr Majstys Inspctors.

In their report, Ofsted (Ofce for Standards

in Education) say that Queens Par is a

good and improving school with a good sixth

form, and the contribution of the students to

    the wider community is outstanding.

The inspection report highlights a number of

areas of success for the school.

All groups of students achieve well across

    the school and the

    rates of progress

    they make have

    accelerated since

    the previous

    inspection.

    Inspectors found

    that the school

    is well led and

    managed and

    comment that

    The perceptive

headteacher, supported well by a dynamic

    senior leadership group and talented

teams of faculty leaders and year learning

managers, ensures there is an accurate

awareness of school performance and aclear direction for development.

The inspectors observed a number of

    lessons and commented Students behave

well in lessons and around school, showing

respect and courtesy to their peers, their

    teachers and teaching assistants and

    to visitors. Good personal outcomes,

    accelerating academic progress and rising

    attainment demonstrate that students are

well prepared for life after formal education. The school is now working hard, and with

success, to share exemplary practice across

all subjects. Students enjoy nding things

out for themselves and taking increased

responsibility for their own learning and

    progress.

They also praised the schools curriculum

which is under continuous review because

the school is always concerned to ensure

that it meets the ever-changing needs and

interests of all groups of students. There

is an increasing vocational element within

    the curriculum and

    the personal, social

    and health education

    programme has a

    strong impact on

    students emotional

    well-being and on their

    understanding of the

    feelings of others.

    Headteacher Stephen

    Casey said, We

    are delighted that

Inspectors found that more than 75% of

lessons are good and outstanding our

focus on teaching and learning is making

a real difference. I was pleased with

their comment that Teaching is good andteachers demonstrate a secure knowledge

    of their subjects. Effective progress-

    monitoring systems enable clear and

challenging targets to be set for students,

who take increasing ownership of their own

    learning and progress.

In her letter to parents accompanying the

report, Jenny Turner, chair of governors,

says I was very pleased to hear the

comments made by students and parents tothe Inspectors.

    Inspectors give praise to a

    good and improving school

Many of us bu plts i sprigbecuse it is the trditioltime to strt grdeig but theplts we bu re mostl sprigfowering and that can leave yourborders feelig bit let dow i

mid-summer so ow is goodtime to visit your local gardencetre d bu some plts forsummer colour.

Consider some of the following perennialswhich will ower year after year. Campanulalactiora is a tall plant with stems of bellshaped owers in pink, white or blue. Plantit at the back of a border in sun or light

shade. The Shasta daisy, Leucanthemum xsuperbum Snowcap, has white daisy owersand also likes a sunny position. I love thesword shaped leaves of Crocosmia so trytaller varieties with their clusters of red, yellow or orange owers. They like a sunnyplace and do best in moist soil that doesnot dry out. In dry years owering can bedisappointing but when happy, some tallvarieties like Lucifer, will reach 1 metre in

    height.

Penstemons are also good for oweringfrom summer into autumn with tubularbell owers in a wide range of colours.Last winter my 2 plants were killed by theprolonged cold spell but they had survived5 years. Its easy to take cuttings from them.Cut off new green shoots (not woody stems)about 10 cm long and remove the lowerleaves. Place in a glass of water and you maynd that some will produce roots after a fewweeks if you change the water regularly. Potup into compost when there are lots of roots.

In July cut back owering shrubs such aslilac, weigela and philadelphus, just afterthey nish owering, if you want to reducethem in size. Cut off dead owers from

roses, penstemons, delphiniums, centaurea, nepeta and lupins and you may well get asecond ush of owers in late summer always a bonus!

Dead heading annuals in pots will keepthem owering and do remember to keeppots well watered in dry weather. Sow saladseeds of radishes, rocket, lambs lettuce andlettuce for autumn cropping.
