PRESIDENT RICHARD GREEN’S REPORT

It is agreed that Chatswood and Roseville Chase will join together. District has been informed. The steering committee meets on 9 March and after that a time table will be issued for the process we have to go through. The first of July seems a long way off but it is not a lot of time for the process we have to go through. The most important thing that affects the club members is the election of the provisional officers and board. This will take place in March and the first half of April.

Clean up Australia. was successful with 3 members from our club, 4 members from Chatswood and many

scouts and cubs. For those of us that have been associated with First Roseville scout group it is gratifying to see the group is so strong, 5 scout leaders and 5 cub leaders. It is a pity we cannot interest some of them in joining Rotary . Thank you Avis for standing in for Peter.

Note • Bunnings is now Saturday 4 April• The mock interviews at Killara High School will be held on the 7 April• We have three teams going to MUNA• We will have at least one student going to Canberra and possibly two• Keep 24 April free for our 30 birthday . Stuart Frith, our first president, and

Sandie will be coming.

It’s good to hear Ro is recovering so well and that Dawn is finally recovering.

At the last meeting we had an excellent talk on the Parramatta light rail. Our next speaker is Jim Wells, a member of Lindfield club, who will speak on Nevil Shute. Jim has been the District treasurer and was a member of Apex before joining Rotary.

It is Lindfield’s 50 anniversary . It would be good if we could get a group together.

The District Conference is on 23 March. If any one is interested in going just for the Saturday the cost is $100.The speakers are always good.

As you can see we have a busy couple of months coming up.

Richard Green,President.

LAST MEETING - 25 FEBRUARY 2020

Parramatta Light Rail Overview: deliver by David Wilson. Firstly, it was great to become aware of David’s strong link to Rotary and him being recognised for his service through a Paul Harris Fellow.Understandably, this really broke the ice with Club members and our guests.

David is the Stakeholder Manager for the Parramatta Light Rail project. He outlined the nature of the project which stretches from Parramatta CBD to the Westmead Hospital precinct, past the new Parramatta Football stadium and on up to Carlingford before returning past the Western University precinct. Stops also includes one next to the Rosehill Race course. He set out the history and character of the rail link that is under construction and the innovation it will bring to Western Sydney.

Importantly, he emphasised the activities and resources that we being directed to assist Businesses on the route so as to minimise impacts and support on going sustainability.

Not doubt the PLR will be a major feature of the future, dramatically changing, Parramatta landscape An excellent presentation; from an excellent presenter.

NEXT MEETING - 24 MARCH 2020THE ROTARY FOUNDATION - HARAN RAMACHANDRAN

Our Club has been involved in many District Grants and in some Global Grants but generally in conjunction with other Clubs. The Rotary Foundation transforms gifts into service projects that change lives both close to home and around the world.Since it was founded more than 100 years ago, the Foundation has spent more than $4 billion on life-changing, sustainable projects and can make lives better in your community and around the world.

The Rotary Foundation mission. The mission of The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.

WORKING WITH CHILDREN CERTIFICATES

The Office of the Children’s Guardian is an independent statutory authority in NSW Government. It protects children in NSW by promoting and regulating quality, child safe organisations and services.

Many members who previously applied for clearance for Working with Children, will have received or will be shortly receiving, email notice that their clearance is about to expire, and setting out the process for applying for renewal of the clearance.

The application can be made online, and the email sets out the procedure to be followed in the online process, and the subsequent need to attend at a NSW Services Centre with appropriate identification documents to complete the renewal application. There is no fee for “volunteers” which covers Rotary.

Peter Lefmann is the confidential “keeper” of the information for our Club. When you receive notification that your application has been cleared and your certificate renewed, please forward a copy of that advice to Peter Lefmann.

On the day we had four members from Chatswood Rotary, a few families and lots of Scouts and Cubs, all in all we had 31 people.Very good effort. Thanks everyone.

Hello Club President! The Bobbin Head Cycle Classic (the Bobbo), will be held on Sunday 29 March 2020, and I’d like to invite you and your club to help us by spreading the word, recruiting riders and supporting their fundraising. The Bobbo is owned and managed by the Rotary Clubs of Turramurra, Ku-ring gai, Wahroonga and St Ives. A TOUCH OF HUMOUR

BBQ RULES It is important to refresh your memory on the etiquette of this sublime outdoor cooking activity. When a man volunteers to do the BBQ the following chain of events are put into motion: Routine... (1) The woman buys the food. (2) The woman makes the salad, prepares the vegetables and makes dessert. (3) The woman prepares the meat for cooking, places it on a tray along with the necessary cooking utensils and sauces, and takes it to the man who is lounging beside the grill - beer in hand. (4) The woman remains outside the compulsory three metre exclusion zone where the exuberance of testosterone and other manly bonding activities can take place without the interference of the woman.

Here comes the important part:

(5) THE MAN PLACES THE MEAT ON THE GRILL.

More routine... (6) The woman goes inside to organise the plates and cutlery. (7) The woman comes out to tell the man that the meat is looking great. He thanks her and asks if she will bring another beer while he flips the meat.

Important again: (8) THE MAN TAKES THE MEAT OFF THE GRILL AND HANDS IT TO THE WOMAN.

More routine... (9) The woman prepares the plates, salad, bread, utensils, napkins, sauce and brings them to the table. (10) After eating, the woman clears the table and does the dishes.

And most important of all: (11) Everyone PRAISES the MAN and THANKS HIM for his cooking efforts. (12) The man asks the woman how she enjoyed her ‘night off ‘, and, upon seeing her annoyed reaction, concludes that there’s just no pleasing some women.
