Essential Products OxyChem is the second-largest merchant marketer in the world of chlorine and the largest merchant marketer of its co-product, sodium hydroxide (caustic soda). Chlorine is an essential building block in thousands of products that make our lives safer, healthier and more convenient. It plays a vital role in keeping the world’s water supplies safe by controlling harmful bacteria and viruses and serves as the base chemistry for a large percentage of pharmaceuticals.

A Global Leader OxyChem is the second largest producer of potassium hydroxide (caustic potash), a principal component in fertilizers, batteries, soaps and detergents, and specialty glasses.

Silicates OxyChem is the second-largest merchant marketer in the United States of sodium silicates, with manufacturing facilities in Dallas; Chicago; Cincinnati; Mobile, Alabama; and Augusta, Georgia. These facilities have a total capacity to produce approximately 600,000 tons (approximately 544 million kilograms) of silicates annually.

Vinyls OxyChem manufactures polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resins, vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) and its precursor, ethylene dichloride (EDC). As an industry leader, OxyVinyls develops and licenses its EDC and VCM technologies to qualified manufacturers around the world. Plants currently using OxyVinyls’ technology constitute more than a third of the world’s ethylene-based VCM capacity.

Ethylene Cracker OxyChem operates a 1.2 billion pound-per-year (more than 544 million kilograms) capacity ethylene cracker at its plant in Ingleside, Texas, along with a pipeline and storage facility in Markham, Texas. The cracker is a 50/50 joint venture with Orbia. OxyChem uses the ethylene to manufacture VCM, which Vestolit, a subsidiary of Orbia, uses to produce PVC and PVC piping systems.

Cogeneration Cogeneration power facilities at OxyChem’s Ingleside and Battleground plants in Texas and the Taft plant in Louisiana are together capable of generating approximately 1,540 megawatts of electricity—enough to power more than 900,000 homes annually.

No. 1 ProducerOxyChem is the world’s largest producer of calcium chloride, a specialty salt that can be used to control snow and ice on sidewalks, roads and parking lots; suppress dust on unpaved roads; and enhance the performance of products and processes that contribute to the supply of energy, food and other essentials of life.

Next-Generation Refrigerants OxyChem’s Geismar, Louisiana, plant manufactures 4CPe, a raw material used in making next-generation, climate-friendly refrigerants with low global-warming and zero ozone-depletion potential. This product was developed by OxyChem, and the process is patented globally.

Health, Environment, Safety & Security OxyChem has a long-standing commitment to the protection of people and the environment. We believe in safety and health excellence, environmental stewardship and high ethical standards. These key elements are fundamental to the responsible operation of our business.

Habitat Conservation Employees at OxyChem’s Geismar, Louisiana, and Wichita, Kansas, plants have received international recognition for their contribution to wildlife habitat conservation by achieving the Wildlife Habitat Council’s Wildlife at WorkSM certification.

Pathway to Net ZeroOxy, leveraging its carbon management and storage expertise, expanded its vision for a low-carbon future by setting a target to achieve net-zero emissions with our operations before 2040 and an ambition to achieve net-zero emissions associated with the use of our products before 2050.
