forced to miss the May 3 GI Kentucky Derby. Ac-cording to trainer NickZito, the colt has a smallfracture in the sesamoid ofhis left front ankle. AIt's atthe back of the ankle, andit pulled away from thesesamoid,@ Zito said. AIt'svery small. In fact, [veteri-narian Dr. Rick Fischer]

took the picture again and had a technician look at thedigital images, because there's no swelling there. He'sactually walking sound.@ Zito said it was too early to tellif surgery would be required. The injury may haveoccured during War Pass=s runner-up effort in the GIWood Memorial S. The dark bay appeared to exit therace in good order, but a few days later his connectionsfelt something wasn=t quite right. AWe had some gooddays, but we started to get some bad days,@ said Zito. SEBRING A SLIPPER SENSATION Sebring (Aus) (More Than Ready) became the firstundefeated winner of the G1 Golden Slipper S. with adetermined victory over glamour colt Von Costa deHero (Aus) (Encosta de Lago{Aus}) at Rosehill Saturday.Favored for this race for thepast three months, Sebringlooked to have ruined hischances when last of 16 outof the barriers. But the tena-cious colt stealthily made upground before bursting clearin the straight--only to havethe shadow of the larger-than-life Von Costa de Heroappear, sprinting from outwide like a freight train. But in a battle of David-and-Goliath proportions, little Sebring pinned his ears backand fought Von Costa de Hero tooth-and-nail to theline. SKIES ANYTHING BUT CLOUDY AT INGLIS Steady rain throughout the week has not deterredhordes of potential buyers from inspecting yearlingsahead of the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale,which kicks off at 3 p.m. today at the Inglis Newmarketsale complex at Randwick. Buyers from Hong Kong,Japan and South Africa, as well as a smattering ofNorth Americans, including trainer Todd Pletcher=sfather J.J. and U.S. buyer Jon Kelly, are in attendance,along with a strong contingent of local trainers. InglisManaging Director Mark Webster said the sale companyhoped to finish on par with last year=s figures. AWe areaiming to come close to last year,@ Webster com-mented. AWe are not expecting to exceed last year,which was 25-percent up on average. The market isstrong, but I don=t think we can record a similar gainthis year. But we are in a better position than wethought we would be, and if we can come close to lastyear=s average, we will be happy. Vendors are run offtheir feet, and that has been happening since Monday. Ithink it is a good sign.@ Inglis has been at pains to pointout the number of Group 1 winners bought around thesale median, and Webster said the Golden Slipper re-sult, with a A$130,000 colt saluting, underscored thefact that top horses could be bought relatively cheaply.AI am very happy with Sebring (Aus) (More Than Ready)winning--we didn=t sell him, but Denise [Martin] and Gai[Waterhouse] have a wonderful group of owners [and]they are great ambassadors,@ Webster continued.
