STELLAR: Strategies for English Language
Learning and Reading
The STELLAR Vision
Children who
• love reading and
• have a strong foundation in the English Language
English Curriculum
1. Shared Reading Experiences
Children read storybooks with the teacher and engage in oral discussions with teacher and peers.
2. Shared Writing ExperiencesThe teacher models writing using children’s language. Children engage in writing together and in writing independently.
Books• open up the world for children• help children to think and wonder • increase children’s vocabulary and knowledge
about the world around them• provide good examples for reading and
writing
Why Books?
STELLAR Needs Parents’ Support
• Role models – read and write notes and messages in front of your child.
• Understanding – English Language learning requires frequent exposure to listening, speaking, reading and writing opportunities and activities rather than use of worksheets alone.

3. Build confidence and foster interest in mathematics.
We hope that our Primary 1 pupils will experience meaningful and effective Math learning through the various programmes.
Mathematics Programmes @ Jiemin1. Activity Based Lessons (ABL)

Learning Support Programme for Mathematics (LSM)LSM is an early intervention effort aimed at providing additional support to pupils who do not have foundationalnumeracy skills and knowledge to access the Primary 1Math curriculum. Parents will be informed if their child isselected to be in the programme.
5. Math Recess GamesTo motivate pupils to master their basic Mathematics facts through interaction with their peers in a fun and non-threatening environment, reducing the fear of failures and errors.
