CELEBRATION – Our opening weekend applauds the 50th anniversary of the iconic Canadian Brass and the 60th anniversary of “the best youth orchestra in the world,” the National Youth Orchestra of Canada. The weekend closes with six pianos fi lling the Stockey Centre stage played by the Orford Festival's Piano Six.

BEETHOVEN AT 250 – The Festival is book-ended by two Beethoven symphonies, the fi fth and the seventh. Jan Lisiecki will perform intimate versions of Beethoven’s third and fourth piano concertos. During our fi rst week we explore chamber music that inspired Beethoven and also composers who Beethoven himself inspired.YOUTH – The passion of young virtuosi will be on full display in concerts organized by Stockey Young Artist, Cameron Crozman. Stars of his generation bring their youthful talents to the Festival for the fi rst time.

CHOIRS – Festival favourites, the Iseler Singers and the Elora Singers, perform two very different programmes of Baroque and folk music. JAZZ CANADA – Our tradition of the best of jazz continues on the Civic Holiday Weekend. CELLO FESTIVAL – Paul Marleyn has created a three-day celebration of this marvelous instrument.OPERA – On July 25th the inimitable Julie Nesrallah brings her Carmen on Tap to our Gala Dinner. O n August 7th Leslie Fagan, Guy Few and friends present Masquerade, an evening of great arias and good humour.

All this and more can be heard in the intimate and acoustically perfect setting of our still fresh Stockey Centre. Please join us.

James Campbell, Artistic Director

I am excited to introduce you to the beginning of the Festival of the Sound’s fi fth decade. This year, among other events, we will present seven mini-festivals within the Festival.

CAMERON CROZMANNamed “Canada’s next big cello star” by CBC Music and the 2019-20 Classical Revelation artist of Radio-Canada, Canadian cellist Cameron Crozman is making a name for himself both at home and internationally. Deeply committed to innovation in classical music, Cameron constantly imagines new ways to share his art with the world. He enjoys performing in unusual locations, from breweries and wineries to public markets, and makes a point of visiting smaller communities in Canada. As the 2020 Stockey Young Artistic Director, Cameron will introduce other stars of his generation in concerts during the second week of the Festival.

This year the Festival of the Sound mourns the loss of Lois Voigt-Stockey in August of 2019. Lois, along with her late husband Charles, made a signifi cant donation towards the building of the Charles W. Stockey Centre for the Performing Arts in 2003. Their hope was that young musicians would have the opportunity to perform in this wonderful hall. In their memory the Festival names one or more Stockey Young Artists each year.

Youth Music Education Fund In 2010, Fran Brown, a dedicated concert-goer from the Festival’s inception, made a generous donation to ensure that children would have the opportunities that she didn’t to experience classical music at a young age. The Youth Music Education Fund was established to ensure the future of Music Scores, the Festival’s unique initiative to bring professional musicians to Parry Sound twice each year for visits to all the elementary schools in the region. All children in Grades 4 to 6 are then taken to a formal concert at the Stockey Centre.

We ask for your help to grow the Youth Music Education fund. A tax deductible donation will make you part of this exciting initiative.
