British Petroleum Oil Disaster

under the Gulf of Mexico floor, explodedfrom a drill site destroying the DeepwaterHorizon oil rig on April 20, 2010 causingunprecedented damage to the Gulf region. At around 9:45 PM that evening, workerson the rig noticed a major gas leak. But theprocedures that British Petroleum (BP), Hal-liburton, and the rig owner, Transocean, Ltd.had in place required a chain of command tomake decisions in any emergency. Only as of this writing(August 5, have they finally finishedcementing it, and hopefully, stopped thehemorrhaging for good.

At first, a chart for BP surfaced dated July2, 1962, and although it fit some of theevents, when I tried to find the source ofthat chart, it just wasn’t there. On BP’swebsite, however, the official incorpor-ation date is displayed quite prominently,

FOR 2000 YEARS THERE HAVE BEEN TWO

separate zodiacs; because of pre-cession and the steadily receding

Vernal Equinox, the tropical zodiac, that is,the zodiac of seasons based upon thesolstices and equinoxes, has ruled in theWest, while the sidereal zodiac, basedupon the ecliptical constellations, hasreigned in the East, most specifically inIndia. Well now, listen up. After 30 years ofresearch into the stars and patterns of thereal sky, I have become convinced that

Madalyn Hillis-DineenNCGR Chair

Hello Everyone,

Take time to visit the NCGR Website: www.geocosmic.org

Blessings to all,

THE TIME IS GROWING NEAR for my term as Chair to end. And, last I checked, thereis no one willing to succeed me. A few people are thinking about it but no

decisions have been made. Needless to say, this has me thinking a lot aboutservice...what it means to me and what it means for the astrological community.

In 12 Step Recovery programs, service is a tool of recovery, not a consequence or aburden. You serve the group in order to foster your own recovery and to showgratitude for what you have received. Service begins by carrying the message toothers and any form of service, no matter how large or small, aids in one’s ownrecovery. Members of 12 Step programs who are new can give service by gettingto meetings, putting away chairs, putting out literature, talking to newcomers, and doing whatever needs to be done for the group. Members who are furtheralong in recovery give service by taking an office beyond the group level in suchactivities as intergroup representative, committee chair, region representative, orconference delegate.

I’ve been thinking about how these principles apply to our astrological com-munity. After all, the 12th step does say that we should apply these principles inALL our affairs. For NCGR, service begins by spreading the message of theNCGR community to others. We recently began the One by One initiative toincrease membership. Have you brought in your one member? Reach out to thatastrologer suffering in isolation and bring them into the wider community.Perhaps, you have a Facebook friend who might benefit from hearing aboutNCGR. Share the NCGR Facebook page with others or post about an article youliked in the Geocosmic Journal or memberletter or a chapter meeting you went to thatenriched your astrological knowledge.

We also serve by showing up at our chapter meetings. We may help to makecoffee or take on a small task the next time the president asks for a volunteer. With the change from a print memberletter to an online only version, there will besome members who will need help in accessing the electronic version ofmemberletter. Your chapter president might ask for volunteers to print out amemberletter and it to someone in the chapter. Say YES, I will. This small servicewill go a long way to aid the organization. And, of course, you may also say yesto larger service roles...chapter officer, National Board Member and even Chair ofNCGR.

So, how does service benefit you as an astrologer? Through service, we take ourplace in the community. We give back to astrology some of what astrology hasgiven us. Whether we do astrology professionally or as a hobby, we probablyhave all felt gratitude that we happened upon this amazing discipline. Byserving our astrological organizations, we help to nurture this profession and tobe a part of those who are seeking to bring astrology to its rightful place as arespected and sacred art.

NCGR memberletter endsits Print Run

YES YOU READ IT CORRECTLY. This issue will be the last memberletter that will bemailed to you. Starting with the November-December 2010 issue, the bimonthly

memberletter will be going out of print—not out of circulation—and online only.

The good news is that memberletter will continue in exactly the same format, but inan electronic online version on our website for members only. In other words, youwill continue to receive the online version through the link we provide, just as youhave been for the last year. The only difference is that you will no longer receive aprint memberletter mailed to your home.

This is a decision that was not made lightly, but given the economic climate, therising costs of paper, production, and postage; and the fact that many of you havealready requested no print, it seemed like the perfect time to discontinue the paperversion. Without having to control printing and mailing costs, the benefits ofproducing an online-only memberletter, include having more space for longerarticles, as well as more charts and diagrams per article.

Another plus is that you will be able to read memberletter as soon as I finishediting and producing it, rather than wait for the 2-3 weeks it usually takes to go tothe printer, and then get snail mailed. It takes even longer with international mail.

For those of you who have not read the memberletter issues online when you havegotten the link, you can view this issue at http://geocosmic.org/publications/mletter_0910.shtml. (For back issues, just change the month and year.) You can eitherview it online and adjust it to the size that most suits you, or print it out and staple ittogether, so that it is no different from a memberletter that would be mailed to you.

If you do not have a printer at home, and you cannot print it out at work, then youcan still view it on your computer in whatever size you like. If you do not have acomputer, or do not have an email address, you can go to a variety of public places, like libraries and internet cafes, and take just a few minutes to check your email, click on the memberletter link provided, and read it online or print it out. For thoseof you who do not have email addresses, it is quite simple to get one at google, yahoo, or other free services.

Advertisers will also have an added bonus in that the ads will automatically link totheir websites allowing for instantaneous viewing and ordering of products.

In order to achieve our goal of each member being able to receive memberletteronline as easily as possible, please be sure that you send the email address whereyou wish to receive the link to Liane Thomas Wade, [email protected]. Ifyou already receive E-News from NCGR and the memberletter link without a hitch, then you do not have to do anything. The memberletter link will continue to besent to that address.

If you need any assistance with anything concerning receiving memberletter onlinestarting with the November-December issue, you can email [email protected],and someone on the NCGR Board will answer any concerns that you may have.

Thank you for your continued support.Ronnie Dreyer

Previewing America: 2010-2014 by Charles H. Settles

ANCIENT SKIES cont’d from p. 1

ASTROLOGICALLY, THE RELEASE BY

Andrew J. Breitbart of a dishonestlyedited video about Shirley Sherrod,

who at the time was Georgia State Directorof Rural Development for the U.S. Dept. ofAgriculture, closely followed by a widelyviewed exonerating one, is an early giftfrom Saturn’s ingress into Libra. On theAscendant of a Saturn ingress Libra chartset to the White House (see p. 7) sitsSaturn and its promise of justice. Therefore, over the next 2-3 years with foundationalinfluences projecting indefinitely into thefuture, we can expect America to benefitgreatly from more equity and fair play.Crooks doing their evil deeds from behindthe scenes, and crooks whose illegalactivities have been overlooked because oftheir high status or legal connections orability to work through surrogates willbecome exposed and punished for the

damage they have done and are doing tothe American body politic. For instance, the harmful effects of the economicfanaticism of the party out of office willresult in this party becoming rejected bymost Americans because of its shamefuland previously anonymous spreading ofmisinformation. This will be clearly demon-strated to the American people (Saturnsquare Hades; Saturn square Pluto; andPluto opposition Hades). Additionally,Saturn ingress Libra via its opposition tothe 7th house complex of Descendant/Uranus/Vertex/Jupiter offers a strongopportunity for America to evolvesocially provided we selflessly invite theOther into the privileged world that wewould reserve for the American wealthy.

Interestingly, the Shirley Sherrod smearwas foreshadowed in the Sun ingress

Cancer 2010 event chart (see p. 7). As Iposted to the Political Astrology list onMarch 24, 2010.

As Obama deals with even more crises... the party out of office, instead of put-ting the needs of the country first, willoutsource to right-wing mediadisinformation intended to discreditObama’s problem solving efforts. However, given Hades combusted relation to the12th house Sun, Obama will widely pub-licize the antics of the party out of office(Sun/Hades sextile Mars in the 3rd house)thus further reducing its credibility.

Hence, I believe this Cancer ingress has setthe stage for the coming into being of a morejust society. That is, reinforcing the energiesexpressed in the Sun Ingress Cancer 2010event chart, the Saturn ingressing Libra 2010event promises harshness to the unjust

powerful, dangerous sky-Bull, and havehad a hard time, over the centuries, trying to manage the massive beast’sstubbornness and rampant sensuality! This difficult combination, not easilyblended, sometimes brings about analienation of tropical Geminis from theirown unconscious, bullish psyches.Gradually, over time, a détente hasemerged between the two totems, withthe earthy sensuality of the Bull grantingdepth, stability, and a rich creativity tothe imaginative, intelligent but erraticTwin brothers. Major star: royal starAldebaran, Alpha Tauri, Bull’s Eye: 9°Gemini 48’

And what about tropical Cancer? Thesidereal Twins who were rollicking, daredevil adventurers (read the myths!)are now under the aegis of “homebody”tropical Cancer, producing a combinationthat brings forth financial adventurers($$ = security) and swashbucklers of theimagination like writers and actors(vicarious thrills while staying safe athome), as well as those who, turning“home” into “homeland,” become super-patriotic astronauts and Olympicchampions! Have you ever wondered

Gradually his self-centered, headstrongways diminish as he absorbs the Fishes’emotive gentleness and compassion, andhe emerges from his swim with an addeddimension of sensitivity, patience, andcomprehension. Here the fire of tropicalAries can warm the chilly fishes, while theirintuitive, fluid duality moderates Aries’intense self-interest. Major stars here:Alpheratz, Alpha Andromedae in theChained Woman’s head: 14° Aries 19’ andAl Rischa, Alpha Piscium, 29° Aries 23’, inthe knot joining the cords of the Fishes

Earthy tropical Taurus, tough, sturdy, unin-clined to move or change, has graduallyovertaken the stars of sidereal Aries, but isnot at all sure he wants to share his pad-dock with a frisky, fiery Ram! But these twocreatures, royally crowned with horns andrather pleased with themselves, have foundcommon ground; over centuries a partner-ship has been established, with the under-lying Ram’s lively, spirited impulsivenessenergizing stolid Taurus. Major star: Hamal,Alpha Arietis, Ram’s horns: 7° Taurus 40’.

The bright, active, light-hearted tropicalGemini Twins have overtaken the

why so many (tropical) charts of twins donot have Gemini represented? Look forCancer! And Cancer is the sign that willtell you about sibling relationships, because the ancient brothers are stillthere, hiding under the tropical Crab, eternally competing, fighting, and(usually) making up. And it is in tropicalCancer/sidereal Gemini that you find racialconcerns, because these are issues ofbrotherhood. (Consider that half of theplanets in the United States chart are intropical Cancer/sidereal Gemini!) The Twinstars: Castor and Pollux (Twins’ heads):20° Cancer 15’, 23° Cancer 13’.

Tropical Leo now overlays the self-protec-tive sidereal Crab, bringing it out of itstimidity, offering it pride and self-respect,while Leo, proud, ferocious, domineering,is sensitized by the under-lying cautiousCrab’s home-and-safety concerns. Inancient Orphic and Platonic doctrine, thesky-Crab (called shore-dweller by theRomans) was The Gate of Humankindwhere souls entered the earth plane (theshore is a metaphor for the transitionbetween dimensions). Thus tropical Leo, byprecessional default, has become the fierceoverseer and protector of incarnating

page 5

and mercy to the helpless, and America willbe better for this dispensation.

Next, bringing into play the upcomingcardinal cross, I will identify two pivotpoints for this cosmic event. The firstpoint is based on an event chart set forthe White House for August 6, 2010 (seep. 7). By virtue of the Moon, one of thelights, ingressing its home sign andaspecting planets in the early degrees ofthe other cardinal signs, I am convincedthis event chart is valid. But I keep in mindJane Axtell’s caveat posted to the PoliticalAstrology list on July 16, 2010.

Major aspects to the world axis maydevelop over time rather than in-stantly. What we should expect is anunrelenting tension between whatadventures are possible (Jupiter andUranus at Aries) and what restraintsare essential for society (Saturn and atouch of Mars at Libra).

So looking at the zodiac as a whole, andsince Aries always indicates new begin-nings (although all of the cardinal signs

are initiatory in their own unique ways),the prime movers for change under thiscardinal cross has to be the retrogradingUranus and Jupiter in the 3rd house. However, Pisces on the 3rd house cuspand Neptune/Chiron in the 2nd house(both also retrograde) warns that theAmerican people are reluctant to embracethe open horizons of a future that can beas good as they want to make it. Ameri-cans, therefore, are collectively confusedbecause they equate the lack of whitesocietal pre-eminence with moral bank-ruptcy rather than accepting a societydefined collectively by all of the peoplewilling to help bring it into being.

But the true problem is Pluto risingalthough invisibly tucked into the 12thhouse while conjunct this event chart’sAscendant. With Scorpio on the 11thhouse, this Pluto signifies collectivehopes at the mercy of societal hang-upsabout deficit spending bankruptingAmerica when the reality is there are fewequitable mechanisms for rectifying asociety polarized by the ability of haves todisproportionally control society’s wealth

while they holler for a need to controldeficit spending when the workablesolution is for the haves to pay more intaxes. Moreover, as Jane Axtell astutelypointed out on the Political Astrology liston July 9, 2010, Capricorn is the very signof inequality. And with Pluto in Capricornon the Ascendant of this Cardinal Crossevent chart, for American society to getmoving, we have to re-experience thesuffering forged in the inequality thatpowered America’s growth to nationhood. And it is this very suffering that must bepaid for in either the blood of socialdisorder (Mars/Saturn square) or in thewisdom of an equitable regulatorystructure to bring under control capitalresources that relegate societal needs, especially in scientific research anddevelopment and higher education(Uranus/Jupiter) and in the economicneeds of families (Moon/Hades), tosecondary status.

Thus, for America to really get moving(Aries on 4th house cusp), it has tounleash its greatest assets—its researchuniversities and national laboratories

souls; many astrologers have placementshere, because we spend our days analyzingthe date, place and time a soul incarnated, and Leo-over-Cancer is the MC of NCGR,descendant of ISAR, Mars of ACVA, Earthof AFAN, and the Aries Ingress Moon of747 BC, the year Babylonian scribes begantheir famous Enuma Anu Enlil compilationof earlier astrological records. Major star:Praesepe, “The Beehive” (M44 Cancri) inCrab’s shell: 7° Leo 12’.

Tropical Virgo, quiet, steady, reliable, hasa sexy secret—she’s hiding a lion underher gown! (Tropical Virgo now overlaysmost of the ancient Lion’s stars). Andjust above, sharing her longitudes, fierce, protective Mama Bear prowls the pole, while below the Lion, hidden under thewaves, a sinuous length of a massive, poisonous Water Snake lurks, bearing amysterious sacred chalice on its back. Youmay not be aware of them, but Virgo is. Ofcourse she keeps them hidden! Othersmight not understand. But her love ofanimals, care for the environment, deeply personal sensuality and theintense sense of the sacred that permeatesevery instant of her daily life, are herquietly cherished secrets, gifts of the Lion

(and Bear, and Hydra, and Crater, theCup). Major star: royal star Regulus,Alpha Leonis, Lion’s heart, 29° Leo 50’,which will reach 0° Virgo 0’ in 2012.

Tropical Libra is fully enclosed within thegreat figure of the Virgin, the longestzodiacal constellation (it stretches from(tropical 22° Virgo, through Libra, endingat 10° Scorpio). In this case, there is littleconflict between the tropical sign and itsunderlying sidereal matrix, for Librarepresents the Scales of Justice, and theVirgin was called “Justicia” by the Greeks;she was the only deity who lived amonghumans in the peaceful Golden Age, butwhen the ages of bronze, and then, evenworse, iron arrived, she could no longerbear their cruelty and bloodshed and flewoff to the sky. Brilliant 1st magnitude starSpica, the “spike” of wheat held in theVirgin’s hand, stands for the seeds ofearth bounty, and research has shownthat the most frequently found tropicalsign among farmers is Libra! Spica, theVirgin’s Alpha star, continues to repre-sent Earth’s primal seeds: in 2007 asNorway readied its Svalbard Global SeedVault near the North Pole, to store seedsfrom all over the world for safekeeping

against any global catastrophe, the 2007Winter Solstice at Longyearbyen had(due to the extreme latitude), the placi-dian MC and ASC just 11° apart; exactlybetween them, precisely on the horizon, brilliant 1st magnitude Spica, the sheafof wheat in the Virgin’s hand, gleamed inthe dark arctic night, welcoming thefruits of the earth to their new haven.Spica, Alpha Virginis, is 23° Libra 51’.

Tropical Scorpio has enveloped the Scale-stars of Libra, but far back in time thesame stars were actually the extendedclaws of a longer Scorpion, so here theseelements combine in a simple message:obey and maintain the law, or find yourselfin its clutches! In 530 CE, one of the once-every-77-year apparitions of Halley’sComet, the written Talmud was completedand Emperor Justinian issued the CodexVetus, a code of civil law: the comet’s peri-helion occurred at Gamma Libra in theNorth Scale/North Claw (now 25° Scor-pio). Zubenelgenubi (South Scale), AlphaScorpii, is at the ecliptic at 15° Scorpio 5’.

Tropical Sagittarius might not want toadmit it, but there’s a Scorpion in hiscloset! The dark, skulking arachnid is

page 6

(Uranus/Jupiter)—without allowingthem to be starved because of concernsabout capital shortages. Moreover, Marsin the 9th house sucking up to Saturnindicates the hard choices that can lead tobig pay offs if boundary areas betweenanimate/inanimate (Virgo on 9th housecusp, and Venus, Saturn, Mars all con-junct), life/death (Mars opposite Uranus/Jupiter; Mars square Pluto; Uranus/Jupiter midpoint square Pluto), and mind/matter (cf. “life/death” aspects) arestudied through simulations, mathematicaltheorizing, and thought experimentation.

And, as for Obama, his leadership underthis cardinal cross is best accomplishedby ignoring the whining coming fromimmature Americans, and both parties, andarticulating a vision of capital provision tothe builders of tomorrow (Leo on cusp of8th house; Vertex/Sun midpoint in 8thhouse; Sun stressing Moon, Venus,Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Pluto). Now, this initial cardinal cross pivot pointpresents a picture of a world within easyreach if Americans would just rejectAmerica’s systemic economic corruption,

and allow its assets free reign to develop. And, notably, while this initial cardinalcross event chart has an 8th house Sunsignifying the promise of great economicprosperity if Obama directs adequatecapital resources to the most creativerealms of American Society, the secondpivotal cardinal cross event chart (seeright) has a 3rd house Virgo Sun (conjunctretrograde Mercury) signifying Obamahas a well thought out plan for job growthin America. Moreover, Cancer ascendingwith the 12th house Moon at 0° Hadesshows good reasons for a collectivehopefulness, but this hopefulness hasdifficulty manifesting because of variousnativistic groups attempting to hold ontoa past that never was.

Obama can easily overcome this negativepull by extolling the benefits that will comefrom the implementation of his job creationprogram while detailing how behind thescenes nativistic agendas corrupt legislativeleadership that should be in the service of allAmericans rather than a corrupt few (Leo on2nd house cusp; Sun/retrograde Mercurymidpoint in 3rd house; Sun/retrograde

From its aspects to planetsin the other three cardinal signs, thisSaturn promises work because of floodingand failing dams and uncontrolled earthmovement. Hence, there will be plentyneed for heavy construction equipment, and the blue collar workers who operatethis equipment. In fact for almost ageneration the salience of the informationsociety will be secondary to a pre-eminence of heavy industry—ipods areokay but they are quiche to the meat andpotatoes of caterpillar machinery (Saturnopposite Jupiter/Uranus midpoint). Yet,unfortunately, things will not be assmooth as they could be because of a nonresponsive Senate—that is, it is said thatRome burned while Nero fiddled, and wemay similarly say America sufferedneedlessly because too many of itsSenators, while pandering to nativistic

The lurking, brooding Scorpioncan pull tropical Sag down from his opti-mism and good cheer, but shaman Ophiu-chus is a healer, and his writhing, rebel-lious Serpent is known for its ability toshed its skin and become renewed. In 1950, on the daythat the Republic of India wasproclaimed, its new Constitution cameinto force, outlawing the rigid castesystem that for millenian had consignedabout 1/7 of the population to “outcast”status and many of these tountouchability: the Sun, Jupiter andVenus were transiting the Sea-Goat. BP OIL DISASTER cont’d. from p. 1

movements, argued about the harmfulnessof financial deficits when there was a direneed to fund higher education, andresearch and development, and to buildthe capital machinery needed to protectand rebuild our physical environment (5thhouse ruler in 6th house; Pluto oppositeMoon/Hades midpoint, square Jupiter/Uranus midpoint, and square Saturn).

CHARLEY SETTLES entered GraduateSchool at Brandeis University where heopenly studied sociology, and secretlystudied astrology the year after taking acourse in astrology at the BostonTheosophical Society in 1971. However, from the early 1970s until 2005, astrol-ogy never had a major role in his life. But, then, Charley found Judy Johns’Political Astrology List, and doingastrology in this context allowed him tosuccessfully integrate his open and secretinterests into interests in educational andpolitical astrology, and the Sociology ofKnowledge. Charley can be contacted [email protected], https://sites.google.com/site/happyfuturesproject/.

PREVIEWING AMERICA cont’d. from p. 6

please turn to p. 14

and even though it had a different namethen, the site uses the title “BP p.l.c.” withthe information about incorporation. Belowthe memorandum title, the date of incorpor-ation of BP p.l.c. is given as April 14, 1909.2

Then there is the problem of time. RaphaelSimons has used this chart with a noon timewith success. Perhaps all corporations inEngland started at noon in 1909, butwhether or not that is true, this chart fornoon on that day in 1909 is extraordinarywhen we look at the events this year.

Examining the BP chart, it is no surprisethat they have a long record of disregard-ing caution. With Aries on the MC and theruler, Mars, conjunct the Moon inAquarius, those in charge will do as theyplease and most likely will be in a hurryabout it. Agitation with workers would bethe norm since the Mars-Moonconjunction is in the 6th house. The rulerof the 6th is Saturn and it is squareNeptune on the cusp of the 12th house. Therefore, it is highly unlikely that therewas much clarity in day-to-dayoperations. Workers were and are fearfulof contradicting company ideas (Saturn, ruler of the 6th is conjunct Mercury in the

ninth, in range of the MC), and most likelymany of the company’s goals or planswere not even known by employees.Mercury is not only conjunct Saturn, butrules the 11th and is also square Neptune. With Mercury square Neptune, deceptionwould be the norm. Mercury also rules the2nd, and being conjunct Saturn, ruler ofthe 6th, frugality with day-to-dayoperations would also be the norm.

Since the Sun is also management andconjoins the MC, it, Venus, and the MCare all square Uranus, adding more of acavalier, independent attitude to the com-pany’s hierarchy. Since the Aries stelliumat the MC sextiles Pluto in the 11th, theywould have a focus on whatever matteredmost to them. Leo rising adds more to thearrogance, since the ruler, the Sun, is con-junct the MC, et al. But, with Venus con-junct the Sun and MC, their public relationswould be great, and even original, given theinclusion of Uranus in the pattern.

January 15, 2010 Solar EclipseThe last eclipse preceding the oil disasterwas a Solar Eclipse (New Moon) onJanuary 15, 2010, and when calculated forWashington, D.C., there are some inter-esting correspondences with BP’s chart.

First, the eclipse itself (Sun-Moon conj-unction) at 25° Capricorn 1’ is setting offBP’s stellium at the MC by square aspect. The Nodes, so important in an eclipsechart, aligned with BP’s Uranus within sixminutes. Uranus was about a half degreefrom squaring BP’s Pluto, and Mars was justpast their ascendant. Pluto and Ura-nustogether is a perfect picture of an ex-plosion,especially one from deep under the earth.

When looking at the Astro Map (see p.14) of the eclipse, we see Mars goingthrough the Gulf of Mexico, but moretelling is the crossing of planet MC andASC lines just south of Japan. Whenplanetary lines cross on a map like this, itmakes the whole latitude vibrate with thatenergy so that its influence extendsaround the globe at that latitude. I circledthe crossing of MC-Uranus with Descend-ant Pluto and Mercury and drawn a linefor that latitude. You can see that it goesstraight through the precise area of theexplosion. Again we have aUranus-Pluto influence.

June 26, 2010 Lunar EclipseThe Uranus/South Node midpoint is 4°Capricorn 36’ in BP’s chart. The eclipse

many times during the past few yearshave you said this?

Would someone please recommendbooks with great explanations andexplorations of mutual receptions?Want to share with a friend new toastrology, and review myself.

Demetrius Bagley

OK, maybe not Mutual Receptions butsurely some specific topic in Astrology. What if NCGR had a list of the bookswritten by members that included a briefsynopsis of the contents and then a linkto the place where the book could bepurchased. A formidable project, butNCGR has part of it complete. Liane has aBook Nook in the E-News and organiza-tion of the contents of the past few yearsis the requirement. However, the member-ship has written quite a few books that arenot on Liane's list. It is time to startcollecting these titles, separate themby subject matter, and develop a web pagefor our members. Therefore I'm asking youto contact me with a list of books youhave written or /published. (E-books alsoqualify).Write to me at Shinker@ aol.com,

According to Janet this may bethe very first mass market novel everpublished where the plot turns on ahorary reading. The most surprisingthing to me, as someone who has pitchedastrologically-based books in the past, isthat my editor and agent are both soyoung that they had never heard aboutthe blacklist that used to keep books thattreated astrology respectfully out ofmainstream.

The following story was sent byJungian astrologer Alice O. Howell.

In 1945, I happened to go into a bookstorein New York City and found a pamphlet onGlastonbury by a woman called K. E.Maltwood. In it, she described how in1922 she had climbed the Tor and goneinto an altered state and saw the zodiachidden in the earth of Glastonbury. Shemanaged to fly in a plane and took apicture of the area and sure enough, found evidence that she was right.

What she had discovered was KingArthur’s Roundtable was actually thename for a complete zodiac represented bytwelve figures outlined in the earth! Theonly exception was the substitution of adog for the crab of Cancer. Dogs, how-ever, are ruled by Cancer. Somewhere, Ihope, in this house, I still have thatpamphlet. The place itself dates back to3000 B.C. but I have no date for thezodiac, which one presumes may go backto the time of the legendary King Arthur. As the years passed, I further discoveredthat John Dee, astrologer, mystic, andalchemist to Queen Elizabeth I, had a fellowinitiate confide in him that King Arthur’sRoundtable was hidden in the earth ofGlastonbury!

In the 1980s, when I was at Oxford, I wentinto the famous bookstore, Blackwell’s,

WE LIVE IN EXCITING TIMES. The techno-logical advances in health care, sur-

geries, and increased awareness of forcesthat are responsible for improved qualityof life has significantly and positivelyinfluenced the average human life expec-tancy. It is important to recognize that untilthe 18th century the average life expectancyhad been less than 30 years or so. Then inthe 18th century the rate of human lifeexpectancy slowly started rising.

The outer modern planets, Uranus,Neptune, and Pluto, were (compared toother planets of our solar system) recentlydiscovered. Until they were discoveredthey were not part of our collectiveconsciousness, and therefore, theirinfluence on our lives was insignificant.English astronomer William Herscheldiscovered the planet Uranus in 1781.Then in 1846 Neptune was discoveredfollowed by the discovery of the planetPluto in 1930.

The rapid technological advancementbegan in the last quarter of the 18thcentury with the advent of the steamengine. With successive discoveries ofNeptune and Pluto in the 19th and the20th centuries respectively we haveexperienced exponential growth intechnology. For instance, while we take airtravel so much for granted, the inventionof the airplane occurred only about a littleover 100 years ago. And then cametelevision, computers, satellite communi-cations, and so many other inventions, and since then our lives and the way welive have been profoundly changed.

Until Uranus was discovered the slowestmoving planet known to us was Saturn withits 30-year period for orbiting around theSun. It’s interesting to note that before thediscovery of Uranus the average human lifeexpectancy was around 30 and in the nextcentury the average human life expectancystarted rising. It takes on average 84 yearsfor Uranus to orbit around the Sun. After itsdiscovery, the first orbit of Uranus aroundthe Sun was completed by 1865, and then ittotally became part of our collectiveconscious. It is after that year the averagehuman life expectancy passed over 30 years.

With the similar logic, until Neptune wasdiscovered the slowest moving planet

Longevity and the Modern Planets

known to us was Uranus. The averageperiod of rotation for Neptune around theSun is about 168 years. And therefore, afterits discovery the complete rotation ofNeptune around the Sun will be approxi-mately completed by the year 2014. Bythen Neptune will totally be a part of ourcollective consciousness. Thus by theyear 2014, according to logic applied earlierfor Saturn-Uranus case, the average humanlife expectancy is expected to surpass 84years.

Presently the average life expectancy in theUnited States is about 75 years, and for theworld as a whole, the average lifeexpectancy is not too far behind. In light ofthe current state of human livingconditions and rapid growth of techno-logical advances it’s very probable thatcollectively we will surpass the average lifeexpectancy of 84 years by 2014.

With the similar reasoning, until the planetPluto was discovered the slowest-movingplanet known to us was Neptune. It takeson average about 268 years for Pluto toorbit around the Sun, and therefore, it willbe approximately the year 2200 beforePluto completes its first orbit around theSun after its discovery. Applying the samelogic as we did for Uranus-Neptune pair, itwouldn’t be surprising to me if we surpassthe average human life expectancy of 168years by year 2200.

one of my favorites, and lo and behold, onthe bottom shelf of one of the stacks weretwo large yellow paperbacks on this verysubject complete with maps and furtherevidence: graphic with outlines andfurther geometric wonders included, putout by R.I.L.K.O. [Research Into LostKnowledge Organization]! Here in thesebooks lies the proof.

Needless to say, I have visitedGlastonbury several times and stood inthe middle of that very zodiac. I have alsovisited the Chalice Well and drunk from itswaters, and climbed the Tor where thereare two famous old oak trees, Gog andMagog.

As I recall, the legend is that the biblicalJoseph of Arimethia, a follower of Christ, traveled to Britain and to Glastonbury andplaced a thorn staff in the earth, whichblossomed on Christmas Day, I think, withwhite roses. There is no question in mymind whatsoever that Glastonbury is apower point and has drawn pilgrims to itover the centuries. It is not far fromStonehenge and Avebury, anotherSomerset center for standing stones, sothe chances are that this has been amagical area ever since prehistoric times. As I understand it, it is now a site forcrowds of young people who gather therefor Glastonbury Fayre at the time of thesummer solstice.

The great ruins of the Glastonbury Abbeystill stand in mute testimony to anongoing mystery. Before Ms. Maltwood, aman called Frederick Bligh Bond also hada mystical vision of what the monks at theAbbey were all about.

In a letter from Mrs. Maltwood written inthe 1970s, from Vancouver, B.C., she wrotemy mother:

[Your] daughter [Alice] might be gladto see the enclosed about my Guide, asit fits onto Philips Planesphere, fromwhich I took it by pricking the starsthrough, onto the map of the effigies [thefigures outlined in the earth]. If youhold it up against the light, you can seethat the effigies were designed in eachcase to incorporate the constellationsthrough which the sun rides.

BP OIL SPILL cont’d from p. 9

was 4° Capricorn 46’ with Pluto close by at4° Capricorn 4’ of the same sign. There isnothing quite as dramatic as a Uranus-Pluto activation. It’s a deeply felt upset. There is a need to react quickly tosomething especially critical. This is adramatic eclipse also because it is part of aconfiguration that includes Uranus andJupiter opposing Saturn, all squaring theeclipse as well as Pluto and Mercury. However, it is the Astro Map that revealsthe most drama.

On that, set for Washington D.C. (whichtells us how this map will affect ourcountry), the Jupiter-Uranus opposition toSaturn is on the MC line going directlythrough the Gulf of Mexico precisely atthe location of the oil spill. Jupiter isexcess, Uranus is sudden and unexpected, and Saturn is hardship. The North Node-descendant line is crossing these, whichshows that perhaps there is some karmainvolved in this event. However, I equatethe nodes to immediate environment, aswell, and often find they are involved inmoves, displacements or somethinghappening to one’s space. Plus, theeclipse (Sun-Moon opposition) with Plutoand Mercury are on the ASC/DCS linealso going through the Gulf of Mexico.Every chart has an astro map, and BP isno exception. Its map would reveal how it

would do in various locations. Zeroing inon the United States, we see that itsUranus/MC line goes precisely throughthe location of the oil spill. Consultingthese maps, if you want unexpectedexcitement, go where you have a Uranusline. Life would be unstable and ad-venturous (or upsetting) in that place—oranywhere along the line! When wecombine the eclipse map with the BP map,we can see that this would have been alikely time for BP’s MC/Uranus line to beactivated since the eclipse echoed it.

April 20, 2010 BP Spill. Before the explosion of this fateful day, thewell was behind schedule and over budget.Equipment was not up to par, things werebeing done too quickly, steps skipped andwarnings ignored, according to a Wall StreetJournal investigation.3 Finally, using seawater instead of mud in the drill pipe mighthave been the last straw. It is all still underinvestigation. The rig was located at 28 N44’12” and 088 W 23’13” according togeohack. An unusual amount of leaking gaswas detected at 9:45 PM CDT. The time ofthe explosion, itself, was 9:50 PM. accordingthe Wall Street Journal’s investigation. Thefire started at 9:56 PM.

BP’s incorporation chart is dramatic forApril 20 at that time. The secondaryprogressed Moon was just about exactly

opposing Venus and less than a degreefrom squaring Uranus. The progressedAscendant opposed progressed Saturnwithin one minute and both aligned withthe Sun and MC! Heavy personalresponsibility comes with an Ascendant-Saturn alignment. Solar arc Moon squaredthe Ascendant, and since the Moon rulesthe 12th house, secrets were exposed. Thenatal Saturn-Neptune square had movedto oppose and square the natal Uranus. Inless than a month the progressed Moonwould join them. Progressed Mercuryopposed progressed Uranus—it suremade startling news! It is usually notkosher to mix secondary progressionswith solar arcs, but if for some unknownreason we could, it’s worthwhile to notethat progressed Mars opposes solar arcPluto within three minutes.

We see that with rage, but also obsessivepower. Additionally, within one minute oforb, transiting Pluto is semi-sextile thenatal Moon, which I equate to a quincunx. They are two sides to the same coin. Thisis also underbelly exposure of behind-the-scene practices toward employees sincethe Moon is in the 6th house and rules the12th. It can even be the indicator of theloss of employees since the quincunx/semi-sextile is associated with separation, and Pluto often indicates death of somesort. Solar arc Ascendant opposes the

January 15, 2010 Solar Eclipse

page 15

Saturn/Pluto midpoint as well as conjoinsthe one of Mars/Jupiter. All this tells thestory of a disastrous event fitting exactlywhat happened.

The transits refine the time of this event, and it is startling to see that the transitingSun is square the progressed Sun andMC. Mars squares the Moon-Ascendantmidpoint within three minutes of orb.Transiting Mercury squared the ascendantwithin one minute of orb. The transitingMoon, at 22° Cancer 31’ squares the spacebetween the progressed Moon andprogressed Ascendant, and not to forget, heading toward a square to natal Sun, MC,and progressed Saturn in a couple hours.Transiting nodes aligned with Neptune.

July 13, 2010The well was finally capped with some-thing that worked by July 13, 2010. Onthat day, transiting Uranus retrograded totrine the BP progressed MC, the prog-ressed Moon was just entering 23° Librawhere it would begin to cross the natal IC,progressed Ascendant, and oppose theSun. Plus the transiting Sun opposedUranus within two minutes, but that is nota precise measurement because this wenton for hours, so the Sun was in range for aday or two. By this time, too, solar arcMercury was at 23° Cancer and square theMC stellium, progressed Moon, and

Ascendant. During the hours this cap wasbeing placed, the transiting Moon wasgoing over BP’s natal Ascendant. Most ofall, solar arc Jupiter trined BP’s Ascen-dant—only two minutes separating, so itwas exact during the ten days beforewhen they found their solution. All alongthe way transiting Pluto had been trineBP’s Jupiter, so it promised solutions.

August 5, 2010By 2:15 PM on August 5, the last of thecement for the top kill had been pumped. Now it had to dry. On this day and time, transiting Moon sextiled Saturn (control)and Mercury. The transiting Sun was onedegree past BP’s Ascendant (they werepumping the day before), and the prog-ressed Moon just about finished its trekopposing the MC stellium—only the Sunopposition to go, and that may be the timethe relief wells are done. Transiting Saturnand Mars in the first degrees of Libra arealso helpful in that they sextile BP’s prog-ressed MC and Sun. They will go on to trinethe company’s Moon-Mars conjunction asUranus and Jupiter continue to trine theprogressed Sun and MC. Even secondaryprogressed Mars is trine the progressedMC-Sun! It appears to be looking good.

BP’s FutureIt would seem, with transiting Pluto trineBP’s Jupiter for awhile that all would be

well, especially when backedup with transiting Uranus trinethe progressed Sun-MC.

However, progressed Saturn isthe basic energy at this timebecause of its close proximityto the MC and Sun. It is within30’ of conjoining the MC and47’ from the Sun. These kindof long-term progressions aresaid to be felt when they arewithin one degree of partile. The time for this chart seemsto be accurate, so dependingon that, the road ahead will belong and hard. Further, evenwithout an exact time, solar arcSaturn (not to be confusedwith the progressed Saturnmentioned above), now at 21°

Cancer 46’, will square the natal Sun and MC in a couple years just as solar arc Neptune opposes them. And around

that same time, progressed Sun willoppose Mars, the ruler of the MC.

There could easily be another disaster orshake-up in the company. Because Saturnrules the 6th house and is in the 9th, Iwouldn’t be surprised if employeesbrought lawsuits against the companywhich might be overwhelming in a coupleyears. No, this is temporary, and thecompany has more to deal with just ahead.

ANCIENT SKIES cont’d from p. 6

On Sunday afternoon July 25, 2010, a fewhours before the Aquarius Full Moon, Ihad the honor of attending a reception forDiana Rosenberg. Liane Thomas Wade,NCGR Secretary and President of theUranian SIG, presented Diana with theSaptarishisAstrology’s Lifetime Achieve-ment Award in the form of a beautifulplaque, which recognizes her monumentallifetime work on fixed stars, and honorsher for bridging Eastern and Westernastrology. The gathering, which astrologerClaudia Bader hosted at her New YorkCity home, included Diana’s daughter, son, grandchildren, and several col-leagues. In honor of the occasion Sap-tarishis online magazine published anextensive interview that astrologer EdithHathaway conducted with Diana over sev-eral months. Tropical Pisces is now home tothe water flowing from the Urn ofAquarius. A surprise turned uphere, for on ancient kudurru(boundary stones carved withconstellation figures) the area weknow as sidereal Aquarius showsinstead a seated goddess: Gula,“The Great Female Physician,” shewas called “life-giver” and couldcure sickness and disease by thetouch of her hand. Fitting thekudurru representation of Gulainto Aquarius’ pattern of stars, shecame out with her head andupraised hands near the mouth ofthe Water-Pourer’s Urn, as ifsummoning, blessing or bathing inits ever-flowing waters.Combining deep-diving,sensitive, compassionate anddual Pisces with the streamingcosmic waters of Aquarius’ Urn (asymbol of oneness), this is a placeof purification, regeneration, cleansing and reconciliation, inpreparation for the start of a newcycle. A major star of Aquarius/Gula: Satabishaj (Hydor,Ekchusis), Lambda Aquarii, inUrn’s stream of water/Gula’s arm:11° Pisces 35’.

The Predictive Power of Eclipse Paths, byBill Meridian, Cycles Research Publica-tions, 511 6th Avenue, #550, New York, NY,10011, www.billmeridian.com, 2010.Paper. 329 pp. Price not marked.

This book contains a wealth of hard-to-find and original material. Some of it is

based on the work of Charles Jayne andEdward Johndro; some of it is Meridian’sown original work on eclipse paths andAstro*Carto*Graphy maps. Both Jayneand Johndro felt that events could betimed to the exact day, so it should comeas no surprise that a great deal of thisbook is taken up with timing the effects ofthe eclipse, both in terms of when it willbring an event and the duration of theeclipse’s effect. There is material on Saroscycles and metonic cycles and how theycan be used, as well as a good explanationof Johndro’s electric phase arc, which Ihave never before seen explained. Meri-dian lists both Jayne’s eclipse rules andJohndro’s. He also notes where hisexperience has led him to modify ordisagree.

The work with eclipse maps and A*C*Gpaths is fascinating, informative, and ofparticular importance to those who domundane work, though Meridian alsoshows how these can work for people. Forexample, should your eclipse path meet upwith an A*C*G line, that could indicate aplace where you could meet someone youfall in love with.

Appendices cover the Uranian planetsand also sources for books, software, andother information such as websitesoffering eclipse data (including eclipsepaths), and software for occultationcomputation (yes, occultations are alsodiscussed, and more). There are numerouscharts, though I can’t figure out whysome are in Placidus and some are inKoch. There are also numerous A*C*Gmaps and maps showing eclipse paths.

Writing style is clear, but this is not abeginner’s book by any means, and theinformation, while clear, just keeps on

coming at you, page after page. Expect towant to read this more than once, and planon reading it in more than one sitting. If you’re a mundane astrologer, this bookis invaluable. If you’re more accustomedto dealing with people than countries, don’t worry—there’s plenty here for youtoo. In fact, my advice would be to findthis book and buy it. It’s a superbreference. In fact, I’d call it a must-have!

Understanding Karmic Complexes:Evolutionary Astrology and RegressionTherapy, by Patricia Walsh, The WessexAstrologer Ltd., 4A Woodside Road,Bournemouth, BH5 2AZ England,www.wessexastrologer. com, 2009. Paper.306 pp. £24 Br./$39.00 US.

Evolutionary astrology seems to be theflavor of this year. This is one of the

better offerings on the menu. The authoris Chief U.S. trainer for Dr. Roger Wool-ger’s Deep Memory Process training. Assuch, she has had access to thousands ofcases of past life memories recalled duringregression. From these, she has presented50 detailed case studies, documenting whatthe person recalled in their regressionsessions and relating it to the natal chart.

The results are pretty amazing. How thisworks and why this works is a mystery, but very definitely there is somethinggoing on in the chart at a much deeperlevel that resonates with many people.Sometimes it tallies with regression workor their own feelings about possible pastlives; other times it seems to reflect infamily history reflecting a parent’sinfluence and/or life experiences that havehad a marked effect on the person’s life.Sometimes it shows both. Keep an openmind and play with this technique. Youmight be surprised.

That said, this is not a karmic cookbook ofpast lives. Granted, there are chapters onthe various sign, planet, house themes,(and I have to say that one thing thatbugs me about evolutionary astrology is

page 19

that tendency to lump sign, planet, andhouse together and treat Mars in the 1stlike Mars in Aries or whatever), but theyare simply themes—and there are a lot ofthem, many illustrated rather graphicallyby case studies. Writing is sound. Casestudies are compelling. Charts (withPorphyry houses) are included. Keywords are given for each sign—forexample, for Leo/Sun/Fifth House, thereare themes like creative self-actualization,ruler/king/queen/royalty, fame, the arts, being noticed, etc. The South Node, itsruler, and Pluto all give you the clues as towhich themes might be relevant.

If you’ve promised yourself to read justone evolutionary astrology book, make itthis one. It may not turn you into abeliever, but it won’t make you crazy, andyou might even get some new insightsinto your own chart.

Passing Down Astrological Tradition:Video Conferencing and Internet Archiving by Robert Corre

ASTROLOGY IS A RELATIVELY NEW pheno-menon in the United States. While

almost 150 years of effort by sincere anddedicated practitioners and researchershas aroused much public interest, it alsocontinues to evoke the condemnationfrom the twin gods of modern science andtechnology. Much excellent progress hasbeen made by these well-intentionedindividuals and out of their dedication hasemerged astrological organizations toenlighten, train, and perpetuate this per-ennial tradition. And yet instead of accep-tance these people have seen their effortsfor the most part fall on deaf, cynical, andprejudiced ears.

The truth offered by the blind eye ofmodern science is worshipped by themasses for its explanation of nature, andthe wizardry experienced by the use oftechnology is devoured for the false inti-macy it brings to modern life. But thesetwin gods have divorced man and societyas a whole from its collective soul andspiritual roots. Against the momentum of

the egocentric arrogance of these twins, what can we say about our heritage, theheritage of those astrologers who camebefore us? Shamefully, very little. We mayhave books written by them, but what wereally have lost is their life experience…

In the East (meaning India) the teacher-student relationship is quite alive. In theWest perhaps the closest we come tosuch an approach is in music. How do weknow how a piece of music composed byMozart or Beethoven should be played? This relationship is much alive in music.

We have many fine astrologers alivetoday, not only teaching the traditionalapproaches of the past but also doingexciting research and evolving groundbreaking innovations in astrology neverdreamed of by the ancients. But here isour problem: Their audience is limited inscope of access by circumstance of timeand place and sooner or later, thesepeople too will pass into history and allthat will be left will be their writings, theirbooks. What will be lost will be theirvantage points based on these individu-als’ life experiences.

Astrology is poised today to gainmomentum, to be amplified, to be extendedin a fashion as never before, and is in aposition to become part of our culturalidentity and heritage that can grow rapidlyin the coming decades. This I believe willgo far in helping engender a sense ofdignity for the astrological community asa whole. I strongly advocate the use ofvideo conferencing as a very importantvehicle that will permit a practitioner andteacher to extend their reach to an everlarger audience who would not normallyhave access to the best minds in the field. This technology can not only acceleratethe learning process but can also providea practical means to encourage the growthof the teacher-student relationship. Video-conferencing can never replace liveconferences, but it can serve as a valuablecomplement, an adjunct to prepare peoplewho plan to attend in-person conferences.

Video-conferencing is a win-win, as evermore students can be exposed to a livingteacher-student tradition. It is a win-winas the teacher will have occasion to giveback with much greater frequency andregularity their lifetime of experiencebefore they pass on into history. Andonce they pass on, to have a living recordthrough archiving of their life experiencewith the tradition.

When we as teachers are unable to passon what we have learned from ourteachers, the gift of a living heritage givento us from our teachers will be lost tothose that will follow us.

Some of us are self-taught and can passon a lifetime of experience. Some of ushave had the privilege of a good teacher. We are all a link in the chain of our heri-tage to connect the previous generationswith those that will follow. Let us use thistechnology to encourage the growth of ateacher-student tradition and makeavailable the best of our teachers to thosewho hunger to learn. Through a coordi-nated effort among the various astrologi-cal organizations, we can grow thisapproach to make available monthly andperhaps even weekly webinars to educateour community.

He is currently producinga 3-day pioneering live Internet confer-ence on October 1stt, 2nd, and 3rd, 2010that will feature more than 40 interna-tionally known astrologers.
